941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Today is the last day panic. on: July 31, 2017, 04:32:22 PM
Is the split really going to take place? I still don't believe that this split will happen. I have read alot about it but still find it hard to believe. I guess I will just believe it when I see it happening. But be on the safe side guys; don't make any transactions between now and the 3rd August, just until everything is back to normal. Rather be safe than sorry.

The split due to Segwit, which people were talking about, is not going to happen. However, Bitcoin Cash will be created tomorrow. It is also a fork of Bitcoin. So avoiding sending out your bitcoins until August 2 makes sense.
942  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-31] Will Bitcoin Cash Impact the Bitcoin Price? on: July 31, 2017, 04:29:27 PM
Looks like Bitcoin Cash will be available real cheap once it debuts tomorrow. The futures are trading at 0.1 BTC currently.
Bitcoin could surge once the uncertainty around August 1 ends. The surge might have nothing to do with Bitcoin Cash.
943  Economy / Speculation / Re: WHERE DOES EVERYONE SEE AUGUST 1st TAKING US on: July 31, 2017, 04:13:55 PM
Opinions?
I'm relatively new so would like to gain some experience in Bitcoin Grin

Not much is gonna happen tomorrow. I expect price action a 2-3 days later when everybody realises and sees that Bcash is no threat and won't have any significance effect on Bitcoin. Then I believe we could take off, probably 4-5k, maybe more, within the next 6-8 weeks or so.

Bitcoin Cash might be driving up BTC's price, not holding it back.  Wink
It could decisively end the scaling debate, one way or the other.
944  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Cash - hold or dump? on: July 31, 2017, 04:10:42 PM

Quick poll just to check what's the forum members sentiment towards Bitcoin Cash and how will it impact the BTC price (therefore - yes, it's bitcoin related).

Changing votes allowed.

I will hold it for a long period of time. If the scaling debate gets messy again, Bitcoin Cash may gain value.
In any case, given the negative sentiment around Bitcoin Cash, I may not gain much by dumping it immediately.
945  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC and BCC vs. ETH and ETC on: July 30, 2017, 05:05:08 AM
BCC is an altcoin and like any other altcoin it can easily be pump and dumped because of much smaller market and very low demand. and we all know people behind it like Roger Ver have a lot of money and can easily manipulate the market to earn more money from pump and dumping it.

Even if that is the case, there is no reason why exchanges shouldn't credit their users with BCC equivalent to the amount of BTC they hold. If Coinbase tells you they will give you no BCC, you should ensure that there are no bitcoins lying with Coinbase on August 1.
946  Economy / Speculation / Re: With the Hard Fork coming, will anyone who has BTC will Get BCC?? on: July 30, 2017, 04:57:13 AM
It is too early to worry for BCC. Chain split is not going to happen as softfork alone having solid 87% from miners (and we can keep believing there will not be any drastic chances in last hours too). All we need to do as of now must be, preparing for segwit activation as per theymos' guidelines. In an unfortunate situation, if split happens then we may concern about BCC. I heard it is just a version of viabtc and not by any developer. In this case also it is too early to go for BCC.
BCC now has nothing to do whether segwit gets activated or not. They are forking on August 1 regardless.get your facts straight!
Yeah but from what I have heard only a minority of miners are supporting this fork, so it's not going to be too much of a problem from what I can see.

Indeed. Only the minority supports this but they will push this through. There are some individuals who are eager to have BCC in the market and in fact it is  supported by some chinese investors.
Its quite alarming that btc will have bcc as a shadow of it. I cant imagine that they made this coin and now if you have btc you will have the same amount of bcc therefore bcc is a free coin?

It is a "free" coin, because it is a fork of Bitcoin. Nothing wrong in the market trying out new ideas. The scaling debate has been going on for too long and a fork is a very good way to find out how much support there is for very big blocks.

Fork Watch: Take Extra Precaution When Trying to Access Post Fork Tokens

Bitcoin holders should be aware that during and after a fork people can make mistakes when differentiating between the two chains. Alongside the confusion, there’s also a chance that malicious actors posing to be trustworthy may promise people help with access to ‘Bitcoin Cash’ tokens – and steal people’s private keys. The risk of losing bitcoin to errors such as these will be heightened during and after a network fork.

https://news.bitcoin.com/fork-watch-take-extra-precaution-when-trying-to-access-post-fork-tokens/

The best thing to do is wait till the confusion settles. If there indeed are problems with the replay protection, they will surface immediately after the hard fork. Patience is the key here.
948  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regarding FORK rumors about 2 coins for 1 if you have btc stored correctly. T/F? on: July 30, 2017, 04:50:06 AM
🦋✨🦋✨🦋
I keep seeing little tidbits across the forum that hint at some kind of 2 for 1 phenomenon if my coins are stored in a wallet for which I have the private key.  What I want to know is whether or not this rumor is true and if it is… Can anybody explain the technical details of how such a thing can happen?   Wouldn't this mean bad things for the values? Thank you for taking some time to share your knowledge.  🦋✨🦋✨🦋

Essentially, if you control the private keys of wallets where you have your bitcoins, you can get an equivalent amount of bitcoin cash after the fork on August 1. It is ridiculous to consider at as a 2 for 1 phenomenon.
949  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any Predictions for Bitcoin 1 August on: July 27, 2017, 01:18:15 AM
Just to be safe i transfered all my #BTC to #STRAT i will figure out what i will do after

By the time you realize what is happening, Bitcoin could have taken off! You need to be constantly monitoring the markets after August 1 if you are totally out of bitcoins.
950  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is now dropping again on: July 27, 2017, 01:13:45 AM
After its rise approaching the $2,800 level almost two days ago, Bitcoin is now on a retreat again. I am speculating that this must be due to the recent announcement that there will be a new coin to be called as Bitcoin Cash and the continuing fear of what can be on and after August 1.

Until we can get over August 1, there will be that dark cloud appearing above Bitcoin and it has become a big issue so far affecting its movement and value. I am just simplifying things here so I want to hear all of your analysis and comments on this latest development.
It's not hard to understand why the bitcoin goes down, hardfork is still the thing that makes people feel the most nervous, the bitcoin value will definitely go down if it's split, so many people start selling bitcoin to preserve the money. => The price of bitcoin go down.

It is not just the hard fork - there is negative news about btc-e, the SEC restricting ICOs, etc. So the price is kind of being held back now. In a week after the emergence of bitcoincash, things will clear up.
951  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is BitcoinCash a joke? on: July 27, 2017, 12:29:56 AM
It looks like to me that it has the same people behind it as the Bitcoin Unlimited, but it's only a couple months old:

https://www.bitcoinabc.org/  - Created Date: 2017-05-09
https://www.bitcoincash.org/ -  Created Date: 2017-03-05

They want to do a 8 MB hardfork on August 1

Quote
Bitcoin Cash provides much needed relief to users with an immediate increase of the block size limit to 8MB.

Quote
On August 1st 2017, We the People will breathe new life into Bitcoin.

I wonder of "We the People", as in 40 billion $, will trust a 3 month old website and a lame copycat of the Bitcoin Core software.

The Bitcoin Cash held by the forum won't be exchanged for bitcoins. I wouldn't ask you to write the idea off completely.
If Bitcoin doesn't handle scaling well, we could see some tired people heading for Bitcoin Cash.
952  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-26] SEC: Initial Coin Offerings Must Be Regulated on: July 27, 2017, 12:26:49 AM
It hasn't stated that ICOs should be regulated. It has only stated that ICO tokens may be considered securities, depending on the underlying economic transaction. That still gives room to uncertainty.
953  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Reach $3,000 Next Week? on: July 25, 2017, 12:30:30 AM
We are just a couple of dollars away from hitting $3000 and next week people will no longer have the fear they have as at now.

I also think that if there is no fork on Aug 1st and things run smoothly we may as well see $3000 or even more!

Just a question of wait and see.  Smiley
Either way, bitcoin is going to the moon and value won't drop because we have a strong community to back it(demand)

Couple of dollars or couple of hundred dollars?  Grin Whether we hit $3000 or not, we seem to now be stable between the $2600 and $2800 range.
We wouldn't have thought of this when there was panic last week.
954  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-19] GOLDMAN SACHS: Bitcoin is going to test $3,000 and could get as... on: July 25, 2017, 12:28:43 AM
Are most of Goldman's clientele short term traders? Predicting a sharp drop 2 weeks before and predicting $3700 now doesn't seem to be targeting long term investors. If they are really good, they should try and predict what the price will be 2 years from now.
955  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin currently massively undervalued? on: July 24, 2017, 01:51:39 AM
I get what you are saying, OP. The ascent of the price was suppressed for some time because of the SegWit2x debate, and now it's resolved, shouldn't the price be much higher?

The price is already much higher than it was a short time ago at $1,900. Also, two reasons why it's not even higher:

1. August 1st is the big date in the head of the public. It's the date you can read about in mainstream media.

2. The hard fork is upon us now.

3. SegWit is not running yet.

I expect the price to rise steeply over August/September. That could start at the beginning of August, or maybe not before the end of August. But I think it will happen.

Although there is lower uncertainty, Segwit is not a permanent solution to the scaling debate. Once transaction fees drop back to previous levels and transaction backlog drops, we might see confidence returning fully.
956  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-22] Cryptocurrency is in Dire Need of Appropriate Exchange Regulation on: July 24, 2017, 01:40:48 AM

Cryptocurrency is in Dire Need of Appropriate Exchange Regulation

http://dnotesedu.com/2017/07/cryptocurrency-dire-need-appropriate-exchange-regulation/

What we need is more people using decentralized exchanges, where coins are exchanged with smart contracts. Of course, you can have exchanges for converting Bitcoin to fiat. These should be well regulated (and insured) so that users don't lose money.
957  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking back at really old transactions at today's value? on: July 24, 2017, 01:39:19 AM
Hey guys, do you ever look back at really old bitcoin transactions you made and see how much they are worth in today's value? Sometimes I like doing that. For instance, I look at some Super Bowl bets I made years ago and now some of them are like 3-5k. The dollar amount back then that was being bet was very small.

I was talking to about this to a friend of mine and he has a few lunches that he was paid back for in BTC that are now also worth several thousands of dollars.

Any good stories you guys have?  My friend got 500 BTC as a wedding present when they were $1 each. It came with a card that said "This is either going to be worth a ton of money one day, or I'm the dumbest person ever".

That is how I first heard about bitcoin.

I gambled away more than 1 BTC in a single day. I often think of the bitcoin I spent, but gambling away 1 BTC in one day is something I will never forget. And each time BTC hits an ATH, it pricks me.  Smiley
958  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin die soon? on: July 22, 2017, 07:04:11 AM
I have bought my nephew half a bitcoin. he's 3 at the minute, i wonder what it will be worth on his 18th birthday  Grin

Fifteen years..... That is a long waiting period. There is a possibility that Bitcoin might die, but if that doesnt happen, you are going to have a very rich nephew.
959  Economy / Speculation / Re: it seems panic is stop. time to invest everything. on: July 22, 2017, 05:07:34 AM
if you have money. you can now start investing but it would be much better if you wait a little more time because im pretty sure that the bitcoin price will dump again after august 1st and after a day don't be surprised if the price will have a big pump. you can search all over the net or here in this forum about their prediction on bitcoin price after august 1st.

It is actually wise to take the plunge when everybody is in panic mode. Now the price has normalized and you may not see great gains. If you had invested sub 2k, it would have been different.
960  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-22] Japanese Stores To Suspend Bitcoin Payments August 1 on: July 22, 2017, 04:30:50 AM
It makes sense for them to suspend payments. Bitcoin in any case wouldnt contribute a large portion of their sales. So avoid it until all uncertainty is removed.
