181  Economy / Economics / Re: Some Research on Crypto Media Corruption on: June 09, 2018, 10:42:10 PM
There is freedom of speech and opinions and every crypto whale can spread as many "bull calls" he wants.
The crypto media websites want more revenue,so they would be glad to help in promoting all the propaganda.
We have to figure out a way to fight fake news, but how can we distinquish good projects from the bad ones?

Freedom of speech is one thing and I agree that media outlets have the right to carry sensational calls, including these ones.
The problem I have is with promotional articles masquerading as news. Some outlets do call them 'sponsored' but this in lost in the fine print. Most times, it is a big advertisement for some altcoin which is run by these publications as news.
182  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-09] Norwegian Air CEO Launching Bitcoin Exchange, May Sell Tickets on: June 09, 2018, 10:30:47 PM
The only less pleasant event of paying for your tickets in Bitcoin is that it will allow governments to spy on you due to how strict airport measures are. Every time you check in and out with your passport, they will be able to find out where you go, when you come back, etc. It's literally big brother is watching you. It might not really be a problem for most people, but I'm sure there are a lot that do mind this, and for that reason won't book anything with Bitcoin that requires passport checks. What if the government has a trigger that will require further inspection because your wallet (the one you paid your tickets from) has +$100,000 worth of coins they don't want you to take with you? It might seem like a semi fantasy scenario right now, but we aren't all that far away from these measures.

The amount of linking of data that goes on (without Bitcoin payment) is already huge. Governments know where all you have gone, how much money goes into your bank account, how much you have spent. They also know what websites you visit and what you have been searching for.

That said, I wouldn't want to pay for my tickets using bitcoins, precisely for the reasons you mentioned. Plus I do not want the headache of calculating capital gains for such events and reporting them.
183  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-05] Bitcoin Price Drops to $7,400; Retreat to $6,900 Likely as Market B on: June 05, 2018, 06:07:28 PM
These news stories seem to be off colour even before they get published. Bitcoin has rebounded a bit to cross $7600 now. There is only so much that technical analysis can tell you about Bitcoin’s price movements.
184  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and retirement - how do you see your future? on: June 05, 2018, 07:13:12 AM
I will not take a gamble for my retirement in this high risk investment. Yeah I understand that we want to have a big returns but the risk is too high and considering that it's for your retirement funds. What if it goes worst? How will you recover that money and considering that you are old enough to go for work and you need money to support your medical maintenance. Will you still take a risk? I will still invest but to the amount which I can afford to lose not the whole retirement plan.

It is true that investing your pension pot in cryptocurrencies is foolhardy. You wouldn’t want to be left high and dry due to a crash at the cusp of your retirement. But I wouldn’t mind investing 10% of the money I have put aside for retirement in cryptocurrencies. Over the long term, they have the potential to provide a boost to my portfolio.
185  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-04] If Bitcoin is a Bubble, Final Stage of ‘Panic’ on the Horizon on: June 05, 2018, 07:03:38 AM
The article first assumes that Bitcoin is a bubble and then tries to determine which stage you are in. When your basic assumptions are wrong, it doesn’t matter how much analysis you do, you are bound to end up with nonsense. I am getting tired of the comparison with tulips.
186  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-05-31] Crypto Learning Centers and Courses on the Rise in Japan, Thailand, on: June 04, 2018, 07:11:00 AM
All these learning centres are good if you want to be a certified professional and take a job in the blockchain space. Otherwise, informal knowledge gained over the internet will do. I don’t think the software industry in places like Thailand are so developed to offer enough jobs for these people.
187  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why Banks are attacking Bitcoin ? on: June 04, 2018, 07:05:56 AM
Big Banks want to destroy Bitcoin before it destroys them.

Bitcoin, the “people’s currency,” has the potential to become a new currency, free of the control of big governments and big banks.

That’s why they both want to limit this potential. Each one in their own way. Big governments by stepping up regulations of Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and by shutting down cryptocurrency exchanges, as the Chinese government has announced recently, crushing cryptocurrencies.

Big banks may be under threat for a portion of the entire financial services pie, but they still have enough revenue streams to stay afloat. For example, they make money from advisory services, including mergers and acquisitions. I don’t see Bitcoin replacing that.
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin may continue to move higher on: June 03, 2018, 08:55:14 PM
No one can ever predict the price of bitcoin as this has volatile movement. I will just contented that this has still here despite of all the negative news being slapped for this year. The price of bitcoin is still worth it now and If the price will rise in the year end it's a bonus to us. Stay positive as we had more years to come.

You cannot predict the price of Bitcoin, but what you can do is take positions based on your beliefs. If you are bullish in the long term and don’t want to take risks, you can hodl your bitcoins. If you have the appetite to take risks, you can do some short term trading.
189  Economy / Economics / Re: This is how you get a Regulation in work on: June 03, 2018, 07:27:00 PM
The crux of this is enforcement. Different countries have to first agree on how to go about all this. Then your ‘economic hitman’ will have to act against people who do not register in this database you propose. Getting leads in a decentralised world won’t be easy.
190  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-02] Visa Card Payments Failing, Highlighting Need for Decentralized Opt on: June 03, 2018, 02:53:56 PM
I find these 'normal money has 2-6 hour problem, BITCOIN' posts more than a little tiresome.

But it does make a point, even more so as people rush towards cashlessness. A nefarious actor could completely fuck an economy by using this angle of attack in a cashless society.

This is true. Nobody realises how centralised payment systems can be. Swift has a virtual monopoly in the international payments scene. Visa and MasterCard are virtually in a duopoly in terms of credit cards (I think Amex is much smaller). So the situation is ripe for a centralised failure to cause chaos.
191  Economy / Economics / Re: The Future of Cryptocurrency on: June 02, 2018, 09:39:07 PM
In the recent years, we know how bitcoin become successful. We know what are the consequences to make bitcoin more and more popular. Understanding bitcoin will take a lot of time. We know why bitcoin is not yet been popular all over the country, but few more years, we should expect the true importance and the advantages of having a bitcoin

Understanding Bitcoin doesn't take time. What takes time is getting people out of their comfort zone. Right now, people might be disillusioned with the current financial order, but they may not have the confidence to invest in Bitcoin. With time, more people will definitely invest.
192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2018-06-01] Tron Price Drops Off Cliff Despite Excitement over Mainnet Launch on: June 02, 2018, 09:31:10 PM
tron price
TRX Price Chart | Source: CoinMarketCap
The Tron price was $0.073 on the close May 26. Currently, the price is $0.056. This represents an over 23% decrease for the time period.

This is the world of crypto "if there is good news = increase prices at atronomical levels and extremely exaggerated, if we have bad news we have a big dump". Tron may have fallen in relation to the dollar, but in relation to bitcoin the price is very high, who invested a month ago had the opportunity to have good profits

People have forgotten that Tron has doubled in Bitcoin terms in the last few months. It was trading at 400 satoshis a couple of months ago, but it is now trading at 800. The hype over the mainnet launch has had some impact on the price after all. The reversal of 25% is something routine in the crypto world.
193  Economy / Speculation / Re: Would BTC shake off an ICO shite implosion? on: June 01, 2018, 02:04:28 PM
the markets are connected to each other and affect each other too. and it works somewhat both ways. when shitcoins are getting pumped 1000% at a time, people see this and want to become rich (in their dreams LOL) so they want to jump in. for many of them including ICOs they would need to buy bitcoin first then invest that in these craps. then when they implode and the dumping comes they run away fast too and that means exiting the same way they came in which means more sells of bitcoin.

so we can't say bitcoin is going to come out without a "scratch". the real question is "HOW MUCH SCRATCH".

If they are 'exiting' that way, it means buying bitcoins for altcoins and then selling those bitcoins for cash. While I agree that the overall market sentiment will be negative, I would only think that Bitcoin dominance would increase. This would be a flight to safety in the crypto world and this would actually be good for Biitcoin in the long run.
194  Economy / Economics / Re: Reason we pay taxes and why we should on: June 01, 2018, 05:19:55 AM
What happens if you are in a third world country and there is massive corruption? You pay taxes and there are no roads, schools, or any essential public utilities. What you do see is the politicians and their cronies getting richer. Would you still argue that everybody should continue paying taxes?
195  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-05-28] Bithumb banned users from 11 countries on: May 28, 2018, 07:40:17 PM
In this era of globalized crypto exchanges, it really doesn't matter. If users use crypto-only exchanges, they can operate (almost) anonymously. If KYC-compliant crypto exchanges see only the last leg, they really cannot do much or check whether money laundering takes place.
196  Economy / Economics / Re: The panic seller irony on: May 28, 2018, 02:09:03 PM
Maybe almost all investors are experiencing it. Like I've experienced the same thing a panicked seller. Maybe they are still just joining in bitcoin investments with thinkers fearing their initial capital is all gone so that the panic sells. But within 1 month ahead the price rises and regret that will come. My advice only be patient for success in investing.

The key difference is the amount you have invested. If you invested a little amount of money, so that even if the price dips you are not worried, you will be safe. There is a possibility that Bitcoin may lose 90% of its value and that should not give you sleepless nights. Then you can afford to sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster ride, getting ready to cash out when the price of Bitcoin really takes off.
197  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [28-05-2018] Crypto trading addiction centre opens on: May 28, 2018, 01:56:55 PM
https://news.sky.com/story/treatment-centre-for-cryptocurrency-addicts-opens-in-the-scottish-borders-11387974

I'm kind of surprised this hasn't happened sooner. It combines internet addiction with gambling, both of which alone are pretty toxic. Will you be booking yourselves in?

Have you got the date wrong in this article? The date on the website is October 2017.
The UK government is working on reducing single bet limits on slot machines in casinos. They can do no such thing with cryptocurrencies. De-addiction may be their only bet.  Grin
198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook and blockchain on: May 28, 2018, 10:32:44 AM
I've read that FB is going to introduce its own cryptocurrency as well as Telegram, this will simplify the payments in these networks.

Telegram also wants to raise funds for development and they may go the ICO route. Facebook is well capitalized, has a steady stream of revenue and also raised money through an ICO. Advertisers pay Facebook through fiat and there is no reason for Facebook to launch its own currency. Facebook has no reason to allow payment between users on its network.
199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5 countries that banned bitcoin on: May 28, 2018, 10:29:25 AM
Governments are having their own issues.  Most of the countries are suffering from illegal trade, terrorism, money laundering etc.  Governments also do not want to give up their control over currency

They may not want to give up control over currency, but is banning bitcoin the answer? If people lose faith in a country's currency, they will shift to anything which they believe will not lose value. Most people would shift to gold and it is only a small minority who is savvy enough to buy bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies.
200  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you approve this strategy: sell alts buy btc? on: May 28, 2018, 08:39:03 AM
I read this article, but I want to see opinions, would you sell all your alts to have only bitcoin now ? I don't think this is recommended

https://cointelegraph.com/news/buy-bitcoin-sell-your-altcoins-says-pioneering-wall-street-blockchain-analyst

You should have a portfolio, with the weight of Bitcoin amongst your crypto assets high, if you have a low risk tolerance. Altcoins may have higher potential gains, but they can drop quickly too. In the equity world, it is only the highly adventurous who look at penny stocks. The same goes for crypto investors who venture outside the top 100.
