3141  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Overcharges on Electrum? on: January 25, 2020, 11:50:13 PM
Yes, I did create the 2FA thing.  I thought it was required as an additional security feature.  They don't tell you what they consider to be a "small fee"...
I must say I find it sneaky the way Electrum asks for this by default. They know most people don't read anything and just click "OK" through all installation popups.
By default? Huh

They don't... The "default" option is "standard wallet" -> "create a new seed"

The only way to get an Electrum 2fa wallet is to select it manually, then click past the giant "warning" dialog.

If a user doesn't take a moment to read what an application is trying to tell them, regarding a system that the user doesn't really understand... Is that the application's fault? Or the user's? Roll Eyes

People forget that "Be Your Own Bank" means "Be your own Bank's security department/IT department/research department and General Manager"

You want the freedom of cryptocurrency? You have to accept the personal responsibility that comes with it.
3142  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 🀄️ Puzzles, games and giveaways 💰 Restart 🏆 on: January 25, 2020, 10:24:29 PM
I attempted to make a DOGE yobicode and it said:
Quote
Yobicodes are disabled for this currency.
Note: emphasis mine

And I seem to be able to create Yobicodes for all the other altcoins... Tested like 5 random coins in the list that have non zero balances. So, it seems only DOGE is affected? Huh

As another thought, have you considered using Lightning network and wallets to award 2500 sats (~100 DOGE) for puzzle solvers?

There are some fairly decent and reliable LN wallets like Bluewallet and Lntxbot on Telegram that are perfect for things like this. Unfortunately, it doesn't give the ability to automatically award the first correct solver like Yobicodes does, so it might increase your workload... Undecided

3143  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Poll] Question concerning: ChipMixer applicants on 2020w3 on: January 23, 2020, 08:09:46 PM
I had/have a question for tranthidung in his Reputation thread ChipMixer applicants on 2020w3 (19Jan2020) concerning the methodology he used when comparing merit recipients.
Did you consider using PM and asking tranthidung your question directly?

Or are you actually more interested in what the various members of the community have to say about it?

Personally, I don't think this is the sort of thing that can be lumped into such narrowly defined "boxes"... You're dealing with a very subjective matter; "Post Quality".

Simply looking at "raw numbers" isn't terribly useful and to be honest, I tend to ignore all the statistical analysis threads.

The entire premise of judging a post purely on it's received merits fails when you have to consider things like:
- What is the 'normal' amount of merit for a 'good' post? 1?, 2?, 10?, 50?
- What if the person who left 1 merit, only had 1 merit to give but wanted to give more?
- What if the person who left 1 merit, had 100 merit to give, but thought it only deserved 1?
- or to put it another way, is 1 merit worth more from someone who only has 1, as opposed to 1 from a merit source who has essentially unlimited?
- do users even put a value on their merit?
- do merit sources put a value on their merit?
- if a user has a limited number of merits and sees a "merit worthy" post that has already received a number of merits, will they save their merits to give to someone else?

I see posts every day that have been sprayed liberally with merits (the thread in question is a good example)... And I think, why?

Personally, I don't think it's even worth 1. Sure the OP put some work in, but is it useful or helpful for the board/community? I don't think so.

So, simply trying to work out if a post is "good" or not based on the merits it has received is an exercise in futility.
3144  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: About electrum Wallet, same SEED, diferent transactions :/ [SOLVED: GAP LIMIT] on: January 23, 2020, 06:50:33 PM
No, they don't need to export private keys... That's terrible advice. Undecided

Exporting private keys is very risky and should not be done unless you have a VERY good reason to!

As long as OP has their seed, they'll be able to recover their wallet and ALL the private keys/addresses.

It's just that if you are using addresses out past the normal gap limit, they won't be automatically shown after restoring. You'll need to change the gap limit manually or generate addresses until you find the one(s) missing.
3145  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: January 23, 2020, 06:20:45 PM
Are you intentionally trolling or did you just not read the previous message?

You generally can NOT sign messages from a custodial-type wallet address such as those used by exchanges and gambling sites etc.

Signing a message requires that your "wallet" has direct access to the private key behind the address. Exchanges do NOT provide this level of access to end users.

It would appear that Unocoin is a custodial wallet and does not allow you to sign a message.

If you want to sign a message, get an actual desktop or mobile wallet that actually supports signing messages like Bitcoin Core, Electrum, Mycelium etc.

Note that not all desktop/mobile wallets actually provide the ability to sign messages, the three listed above do. I would recommend Electrum for the desktop and Mycelium for mobile (Android only)

Perhaps these lurkers practice the "dark" form of the answer?
Not sure what you mean by "dark" but yes, spectre is active from time to time

I was referencing the answer to the previous puzzle... The Dark arts...

Given they are nicknamed "The Spectre", then it would appear that my theory may be correct! Tongue
3147  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 is not opening on Windows 10 on: January 23, 2020, 05:35:31 AM
I'm also wondering if there might be an issue with the wallet file that is causing Electrum to hang during startup...

@MR_Roken, did you try backing up your wallet file (and/or making sure you have your seed mnemonic) and then deleting it... Then trying to open Electrum? (Note: uninstalling Electrum does NOT delete your wallet file, you'll need to manually delete it)

I think that will go a long way to helping you recover your account. From what I've seen previously, it can take a while, so you'll just need to be patient...
3149  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Electrum 3.3.8] Not connected to network on multi signature wallet on: January 22, 2020, 06:09:40 PM
Thank you for your advice. I tried to use Electrum through Tor with below command according to the url:
' "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electrum\electrum-3.3.8.exe" -1 -s electrums3lojbuj.onion:50001:t -p socks5:localhost:9050 '

However, the problem still happen. Bottom left message says "Not connected(proxy enabled)" and still turn on Red dot on the right corner.
Do you actually have Tor installed and running? It is not built into Windows, you need to download and run Tor from here: https://www.torproject.org/download/

in the similar old topic, I saw someone advised that exporting private keys into Coinomi wallet... Should I try it if it not have risks?
Exporting private keys has many risks. I would not advise that you do this at this time. Your best option is to figure out why Electrum is unable to connect to the network and rectify the problem.

Seems we have lurker(s)? Oh well... At least I can be satisfied that I knew the answer. Tongue

Perhaps these lurkers practice the "dark" form of the answer? Hence why they wish to remain hidden...

3151  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Server exception in console on: January 22, 2020, 07:51:29 AM
I will take the advice and create a new electrum wallet and transfer the funds, but how do I go about doing that. Do I have to erase any existing files from the previous wallet, like the file location? Also can I transfer to a new electrum wallet while using both on the same operating system?
Yes... Electrum allows you to have multiple wallet files... you can even have them open at the same time.

Simply use "File -> New/Restore"... give the new wallet a name to make it memorable... then follow the process to create a new "standard wallet -> create a new seed"... write the new seed down for later reference.

Eventually you will end up with 2 wallet files open... your old one and the new one. Get a "receive" address from your new wallet... and use it to send ALL the funds from your old wallet.

NOTE: you can set your fee and then type an exclamation mark (!) into the payment amount box to get it to automatically calculate the amount to send ALL available funds to your new wallet.

My ol' noggin can't seem to figure this out
Is that a request for help? If so, have you read shorena's thread on how to sign a message? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0

3153  Other / Meta / Re: A forum violation or? on: January 22, 2020, 05:30:59 AM
Seems to be just spamming "news" links to make sig campaign posting quota... there is basically zero effort to participate in any sort of conversation created by these posts. Undecided

This sort of activity has been discussed recently: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5217092.0

Although, that user seemed to be shillling ONE website in particular... In this case, at least the user is posting from a wide variety of different websites. It's still pretty low effort "shit posting" in my opinion. The user offers no opinion or commentary, simply the headline, a partial quote and the link to the article.

As I don't frequent those boards/threads, it doesn't really bother me... if I did, I'd probably be tempted to report those posts... possibly also a PM to the campaign manager might be warranted... and reference this:
1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads.
3154  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [Electrum 3.3.8] Not connected to network on multi signature wallet on: January 22, 2020, 04:43:47 AM
When you say it won't "sync"... what exactly is happening? Huh

Are you getting "green dot"?

"red dot"?

or "blue arrows"?

Do you see a message in the bottom left saying "Synchronizing"?

4 more goals than I expected... but given the early red card that's not too surprising... still, it ended in a draw as I thought it might. Thankfully I went "double chance" on Chelsea for a small gain.

Had to laugh at the Everton result... shipping 2 goals in 90 seconds... at 90'+4 and 90'+5? hahahahaha brilliant work from Newcastle.
3157  Other / Meta / Re: Access to my account is lost! on: January 22, 2020, 12:16:25 AM
Also, when you sign the message... make sure, as advised earlier, that you include the current data and the reason why you're signing the message. The message you have signed above is relatively meaningless for the purposes of account recovery. It could have been written any time for any reason.

Better to sign a message like this:

I feel like I've woken up in the Twilight zone... Bitcointalk users apologising and the apologies being accepted... and TMAN having feelings and shit and wanting to cuddle? Shocked Shocked Shocked

Did I fall asleep and wake up on April 1st? Was there a "Hackening"? Have all these accounts been compromised?

Or have people finally decided that the "Age of the Drama Llama"™ is over and that they should start acting like adults? Huh
3160  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 is not opening on Windows 10 on: January 21, 2020, 09:14:43 PM
It might be a permissions issue stopping it from starting up properly. Have you tried running Electrum as an Administrator? Huh
