3121  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: January 29, 2020, 08:56:19 PM
I am in the process of updating my cold storage, and I would also like to update my staked address to one which is present in my new cold storage. I still have access to the old one, but it is less secure than my new set up.
...
Here is a message signed from my old address proving I still have ownership:

Quoting your proof of address message... Your message is verified

Also noting that the original quote from CryptoCanary is NOT edited today and therefore still a "valid" quote of your old address 17SNtYscXsFC2eywog7QFBbBSqX1JwbXfv.

Here is a message signed from my new staked address. Please quote and verify:

3122  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: "HCP's ongoing experiment of the Arakne Trading Bot"™ on: January 29, 2020, 07:41:37 PM
Firstly, apologies for the late posting of this... I've been travelling and away from my PC, and didn't feel like trying to post this on my phone.

As we can see... on Jan 25/26 (depending on timezones) the bot dumped another 0.02082658 BTC... current balance is just: 0.04389297

Bot owner gives the usual "manipulation" excuse...

and more recently...

blah blah blah... You can go read the Telegram if you want to see it all...

Doesn't change the fact that since the beginning of December, I now have overall losses of 0.05610703‬ BTC or -56.1% from the original 0.1! Shocked Undecided

NOTE: my free trial at coinmarketman finished, and I'm not tipping any more money into this than I already have, so no fancy graph give the green and red bars today.

Anyway... I'm bracing myself for all the "I told you so"™ posts... should have listened to y'all Tongue
3123  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Battery Question? on: January 29, 2020, 04:13:35 AM
Mine is rock solid. It's been dropped, crammed in travel bags, taken around the world a couple of times and I've even sat on it twice... and it's still pretty much in "mint" condition. Guess I just got lucky...
3124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet reader on: January 29, 2020, 12:14:15 AM
Given your other thread is about having multiple "wallet.dats"... then I'm guessing you simply want to know what the balance of a given "wallet.dat" is? Is that correct?

If so, then your choices are basically "Bitcoin Core" or "Bitcoin Core" or "Bitcoin Core" Tongue

The wallet.dat format is quite specialised and there are no other applications that are able to read the wallet.dat format that Bitcoin Core uses and display the addresses and/or wallet balance. PyWallet would probably have been the closest... but that is simply a python script, and is horrifically out of date and not very functional with updated wallet.dat files.

Otherwise, you could probably use PyWallet to dump out the addresses in a wallet.dat file and then run a script that queries a block explorer API to see what the current balance of those addresses is... I'm not aware of any "ready to go"/"off the shelf" scripts that do this at present.

I'm a bit stumped on this one... Undecided The "obvious" values (based on the hint) don't work... and I'm not sure of any event or news relating to that particular date that fits in 4 characters Huh

For reference, I tried:
0103
0301
Jan3
3Jan
Date

Tis indeed a puzzle! Tongue
3126  Other / Meta / Re: Are the negative trusts you have given so far really necessary? on: January 27, 2020, 09:41:02 AM
Your post gave me pause to go and check on my trust history... I didn't recall giving any "unnecessary" negative feedback, even in the cases of rambotnic and game-protect who both left a false negative on my profile.

Indeed, in the case of rambotnic, I even sent them a PM asking them to reconsider the red trust (it was my first) and they told me that I had to "suffer"... C'est la vie.

In the case of game-protect, they tagged me because I supported a flag (that had overwhelming evidence). Given their history and behaviour, I didn't even bother trying to reason with them.

As far as I can tell, all my negatives are for scammers, shills promoting scams and/or malware or folks with active scam accusations (with what I consider adequate evidence of said scam).

I believe this is the correct usage of trust feedback.
3127  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Stolen content!! on: January 27, 2020, 04:09:36 AM
Most likely falls under this:
17. Trading of goods that are illegal in the seller's or buyer's country is forbidden. [2]

I would assume that selling copyrighted material without proper authorisation is illegal in most jurisdictions.

I would suggest that you click "Report to Moderator" on the appropriate posts and mark them as "selling/trading illegal content"... Assuming you have proof that the content is indeed being traded illegally.
3128  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: PLEASE HELP I SEEM CORNERED on: January 27, 2020, 03:46:44 AM
Sounds like the good ol' Mycelium syncing issues are back Undecided

Every few weeks/months there are posts popping up from users saying they can't sync Mycelium. After a few days, they generally post that the wallet finally synced and they can see all their coins.

How long has it been that the wallet has been unable to sync correctly? Huh

Also, you might want to find this setting in Mycelium and turn it on:

It'll then show you the exact path for each address you view in your wallet/accounts:

That way you can make a note of the derivation path that you'll need for the various wallets/accounts that you have.

Did you follow point #7 about adding the ~/.local/bin directory to the PATH and then logging out and back in? Huh
3130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidate wallets on: January 27, 2020, 03:23:38 AM
...i do this method a lot.
And all you coins are now "linked" together... Depending on your privacy and/or accounting requirements, then consolidating all your coins into one UTXO like that may not be the best way forward.

Also, if someone (accidentally?) sends to one of your old addresses, you may not notice unless you're constantly monitoring your old wallets anyway.

@ingvar_e, what are you requirements regarding consolidation and/or ability to monitor old wallets/addresses? Huh
3131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core drops incoming connections and doesn't recover on: January 26, 2020, 09:58:46 PM
Is it just the "Bitnodes" test that is failing... Or are you also seeing zero "incoming" connections on the node as well? Huh

If the former, probably just an issue with Bitnodes... If the latter then possibly some weird glitch with your router or DNS or possibly even the VPN blocking traffic...
3132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Consolidate wallets on: January 26, 2020, 09:48:43 PM
dumpwallet simply outputs private data like private keys, master private key and the hdseed (if one exists) etc... As the name suggests, it is just a "data dump", so it doesn't "clear" a wallet, remove any datat or send any transactions etc.

Depending on how you are running Bitcoin Core, you could also benefit from the "multi wallet" functionality and simply load the extra wallet files into Bitcoin Core.

In the GUI, you simply use the "Open Wallet" command in the File menu... After the initial wallet load and rescan(s), you can effortlessly switch between the two (or more) wallet files from a simple dropdown list.

You can achieve the same on bitcoind using the -wallet command line argument and specifying all the wallet.dats you want to load etc.

Safer than exporting/importing private keys... And you can manage all wallets from one Bitcoin Core instance.

If you are finished with the "donator" wallets, you could simply shift all the funds to you new wallet... And keep copies of the old wallet.dats (just in case)...

If you'd like to keep using the "donator" wallets, then I'd recommend just loading them all into the one instance.

Someone asked if offering such a tool was the same as plagiarizing, and so far the answer is no.
What's worse... The drug user (plagiarist) or the drug dealer (person supplying the text spinner tools to the plagiarist)? Huh

Someone who not only shares that kind of mindset, but actively encourages it among others by giving away a tool to make it both easier to plagiarize and harder for us to moderate it, is an order of magnitude worse than the plagiarizers themselves.

I concur...

A user relentlessly spams the forum with hidden reflinks for months, gets called out... User acts all sorry and promises to put some effort into participating in a meaningful way and making the forum "better"... Then a couple of days later they attempt to sell "text spinning" services so the plagiarists can go undetected??!? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

GTFO!
3134  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Personal Server 0.2.0 Released on: January 26, 2020, 08:53:22 PM
As per the install instructions on the GitHub: https://github.com/chris-belcher/electrum-personal-server/blob/master/README.md

8. Run the server: electrum-personal-server config.ini
9. Start your Electrum wallet: electrum --oneserver --server localhost:50002:s.

Seems pretty straightforward...
3135  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 🀄️ Puzzles, games and giveaways 💰 on hold 🏆 on: January 26, 2020, 08:39:17 PM
That would be the last puzzle for now.
So, there won't be a new round of this game? Undecided

If so, then I'm sorry to hear that, I was just getting into it! Still, it has been a fun (if somewhat short) adventure... And I've been enjoying the puzzles.

Thanks for all the effort you've obviously put into this!
3136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 0.19.0.1 keeps hanging while syncing coins on: January 26, 2020, 08:21:43 AM
Best way to make the Devs aware of what you think is a bug or issue is to log it on GitHub.

The Bitcoin Core issue tracker is here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues
3137  Other / Meta / Re: What did I do wrong with this debate thread? on: January 26, 2020, 05:22:39 AM
3. Because Bitcoin Discussion is filled with these type of posts and people, good users do NOT go in there so easily.
Pretty much this... Historically, I found the Bitcoin Discussion board was basically a cesspool of megathreads "discussing" useless topics that are of zero value... "When moon?"... "How did you get interested in Bitcoin?".. "how tell friends about Bitcoin?"... "Is trading easy/profitable/best way to make money?"... "Is gambling easy/profitable/best way to make money?"... Etc etc etc Roll Eyes

They all basically end up with quote pyramids, "good project" or "I concur" or "I like Ferraris but also VW but I think Ferrari is better because it is not VW" type posts that people spam over and over to make post counts.

There is no debate or critical thinking (at least there wasn't until you posted that thread!)... So I generally never look in there.

I shall go have a browse when I get a chance.
3138  Other / Meta / Re: I sincerely apologize to everyone on: January 26, 2020, 05:07:43 AM
So, what are the odds this turns into a "three strikes and you're out" situation? Huh

Is this just another case of "I'm really sorry (I got caught)!"?
3139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: restoring and spending bitcoin on: January 26, 2020, 04:06:00 AM
"Missing inputs" means that your transaction is attempting to spend inputs that no longer exist in the UTXO set... AKA actual unspent transaction outputs. Undecided

This is not good news.

It means that the inputs either "never existed" or they have already been spent. In the former case, it's possible that they were the result of an orphaned block, that your wallet never found out about. It's also possible you've loaded a wallet for a different coin (like LTC or DOGE) into Bitcoin Core.

In the latter case, it's possible that someone else has a copy of the wallet and the inputs you're spending have already been spent by someone in another transaction.

Without more details of the addresses involved it's impossible to tell which situation you are in... But in either case, I suspect you are going to be quite disappointed with the realisation that you don't have the coins you think you do. Undecided
3140  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Firmware 1.6.0 - Known Bugs and Issues on: January 26, 2020, 03:54:27 AM
No, there aren't any showstopper bugs with 1.6... otherwise there would numerous threads here and on Reddit.

It's a "good" update.

As for the screen... Without pics and possibly a side by side comparison of what your screen and a "normal" Ledger looks like, it's hard to tell if there are any issues.

I'd take some pics and log a ticket on the ledger support site and see what they say. If it's new enough, you might qualify for a warranty replacement.
