The rumor I heard is that BitFinex was set up such that although all BTC was held with BitGo, which apparently has reasonable cold storage practices etc., the BitFinex<->BitGo settlement setup was such that anyone with BitFinex's (hot, online) key could withdraw large amounts of money from the BitGo accounts at any time. Exactly how much could've been stolen would depend on how much BitGo allowed BitFinex to "settle" at one time, but I don't know the details of how that worked.
Sort of reminiscent of having a "cold storage wallet" that will blindly follow the instructions of the live server... (Though maybe some limits were enforced.)
I'd suspect that BitFinex is insolvent, though I definitely don't know for sure. Still, I recommend withdrawing everything as soon as possible.

Okay, all kidding aside, I really don't know that much about mining, I have been investing for years but never really got much into the other part of it and my questions are;
1. if I wanted to get started on something right now, with two laptops that i would be willing to leave on forever with pretty good bell fibe unlimited internet where I can make immediate money?
2. Are their any alt coins that I can mine from two 5 year old laptops that I would just leave on forever. They are basically going in the trash or being sold on kijiji right now to help pay for my dogs Chemotherapy and I was wondering if I should be setting them to mine something productive that I could be selling for more money.
like, is personal laptop mining still a possible thing for any alt coins. My dog and I could really use some advice on this.

Do those laptops have any dGPUs? I highly doubt that but you could maybe make very little profit off them by mining Ethereum. the best choice would probably sell them and buy a second hand desktop GPU, motherboard, CPU, RAM and PSU and let it mine 24/7. |

Your topic title question + comment is hard to answer. Can you clarify what you are asking ? Such as.. Are you just asking the community here about ETH + ETC ? Or are you talking about change on larger scale (the whole scene / all coins) Guessing you meant in relation to ETH /ETC ...ME i am not so sure.. first thing that comes to mind i think is the attackers deadline. As far as i heard we don't know what his intentions are when he gets his coins later. The fear of him dumping might have a major impact if you think about it rationally. So far.. I think people have been playing with ETC feeling safe and secure knowing the attackers funds are not ready yet. So just wait until that security is taken away and then we will see what is REALLY going to happen. Yeah, exactly my thought. I am asking generally about ETC, which is a weird topic, because of the DAO funds that could crash the market. I have seen people on this forum throwing some hate on you dude, I think you're a good guy. and when is the earliest time the attacker could release his funds to the exchanges? |

Menace.bit, we believe that, at least, 700 BTC would need to put together. From then on, all collected serve to optimize, accelerate, hire more people, marketing, legal costs, go to more events and create a division that works as an incubator in the ecosystem we aim to create in Opair. That's going to be a difficult goal without escrow being offered. I brought up a few questions about privacy. Do you care to address them? After doing some checking.. Such as the domain name registrant being https://www.anonymousspeech.com/Using cloud flare and open mailbox. These are typically things used by Nefarious people/groups.. Not sure why such privacy is needed.. Cloudflare is used by just about everyone. The rest of your comment loses all merit when you include that. If you're smart enough to be able to research then you should be smart enough to know that Cloudflare is a valuable tool to administrators of all kinds. Regardless of the type of business. I'm sure Reddit, Cisco, and Nasdaq are malicious just because they use Cloudflare. Anonymous Speech won't even host porn sites, lol. Open mailbox is just an email provider. Goodluck to those who have invested. Some people take risks, some don't. You can be whoever you choose, but it can't be called a scam until they don't deliver. If that happens, then we can start calling it a scam, but wait. Would it really be a scam? We've been asked to put in money that will never come back with the hopes that we will make some money.
