Apart from making nice sundials like geasons or other Azimuthal Equidistant Maps its main purpose and existence was/(is) to make navigation unnecessary complicated and expensive. Only select few could do it as schooling, maps are expensive and must be updated regularly.
A solder on the other hand on average is not that smart (otherwise he would not be try to terminate same kind) or has the means to carry or buy expensive distorted charts so he is not using them.

Hard core facts, Russia (from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok) is about 10k East-West and 4k North South, Australia East-West as the Crow flies Perth to Brisbane 4K and 3,7k North-South (Darwin to Hobart in km).

Gleason's or other Azimuthal Equidistant (Equal distant) maps are distorted images as each square is of equal distance. You cant make that type of map without distortion. It is used by sailors with various scales.

Regarding the horizon...

If you are 6 feet tall,
and you are standing on the beach looking out to sea at a ship,
if the top of the mast is a hundred feet above sea level,
you will still see the top of the mast at a great distance away.

The reason for the great distance is the great curvature of the earth. If the earth globe were not so large, the horizon would not be so far off. The distance is what makes observations unreliable... because of atmospheric aberrations, etc.

If you were the same 6-foot-tall person,
at the same place on the beach,
looking out at the same ship,
but you were buried in the sand up to your chin,
(like people bury themselves in sand at the beach),
the ship would have to be a lot closer,
so that you could see the same part of the top of the mast,
as you did when you were standing on the beach.

When the ship is closer, you get a much better view because of less aberration of the atmosphere, and less interference from whatever other atmospheric effects and conditions. Now that you don't have the atmospheric effects, you can clearly see that the earth is a globe, as the ship goes over the horizon.


When you are on straight and level land,
and you place your eyes near the ground,
by the side of a straight and level road,
(maybe get into the ditch),
the horizon is so near and the atmospheric aberrations so limited,
that you can easily see the horizon effect of globe earth,
in the way a moving car gradually disappears over the horizon.

You don't need some silly ship-at-sea thing. Everybody can do this right where they are at. You can use your digital camera. The distance is so close that even if you use a fish-eye lens, the effect of the lens will be negligible regarding how the car goes over the horizon. Any mirage-like atmospheric effect will be so small that it will make no difference with regard to the car clearly going over the horizon. Now, you can tell the earth is a globe, by eye or by camera, no matter who you are.


Of course, the above will have to be modified in some ways. My directions may not be exact for you and your location. You will have to consider your own details for your own location. But almost anyone can figure out how to do this enough to prove that the earth is a globe.

Lets stick to facts.

The Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) is used by NATO militaries for locating points on the earth and is accurate within 1 meter square and one square can be as large as 100000 meter (100km). A square within a square, square.......
Come on show me how you do that on a globe. Tell me how you calculate a large triangle on sphere, or have parallel lines on a ball.

The MGRS grid system is very similar to UTM zones. Interesting is the skipping of 31V and 32X, 34X 36X. Who wants to go to Spitsbergen, (33X)
With so exceptions each grid is 666 meter wide and 888 km height.





Transcontinental Russian rail track from Moscow–Vladivostok is 9,289 kilometres (5,772 miles) long and takes 8 days. From Kiev its another 2k. Are you suggesting it is wrong also.
I can tell you how long the Nullarbor Plain in Australia is as i crossed it from Perth to Adelaide. If i remember correctly it was 2 days and 3 nites and yes its flat for hours on end in every direction.

Globe Earth has been and can be proven by horizon events on land rather than at sea.

Also, if you examine everything other than the earth itself that can be examined, there is nothing flat. Flat is all perspective. Detailed examination shows that there is nothing flat, so why would anyone think the earth could be flat?

I have seen everyone explaining the absolute brainwashing the masses have been given regarding space.   I thought I could reason with them and maybe introduce them to the proof that I was seeing which caused me to believe what I do.   They want to hear none of it and go straight to the attack.   It's amazing.  We all probably had the same education and they think they are somehow intellectually superior because they can regurgitate what they were taught with absolutely no idea about any of it.   

The big proof Vod and his cohorts gave was the ship disappearing over the horizon.  LOL  Some how these intellectual master of physics and astrophysics cannot even get passed the basic fallacies of the globe.  I love it when they pull all the regular bullshit cards like the ships/horizons.  Or better yet pictures and videos.  It's too easy.  Vod proved beyond a shadow of a doubt he has no intimate knowledge of the subject and must be a little weak in the intelligence department based on his reaction.  When pressed for truth he shut up and flung insults.  You upset the low IQ guys they get all bent out of shape.  I guess trying to learn another story would be a bit much.

Is there now only one fantasy pole (north) or no such made up grid was needed for south pole.
