My experience with Cryptsy withdrawal is the same. It is possible, but takes some time to withdraw everything. I guess that it is due to the recent "developments" around the exchange, which caused a sort of bank run (with most of the coins in cold storage). Their interface has been improved past few months, which makes it better in use.

More than 10% of the population of Iceland accepted the airdrop coins, not just because of "free money", but because of the failed banking system in Iceland, currency controls, rampant inflation, etc. There was and is a genuine interest and hope for a new currency in Iceland. The "Icelandic króna problem", is still the biggest topic in Icelandic news today.

Just when the people got the coins in their hands after the airdrop, some of the people of course sold it for BTC to exchange it for USD and got back again some free ISK. The problem is that Icelanders can't buy Auroracoin because of the currency controls, i.e. they have to first buy USD, then BTC, then AUR which is prohibitit.

This all happened on day 1 and 2 of the airdrop, which diminished the price. The Airdrop took a year to finish, so there was constant supply of coins and limited interest in buying up AUR while the Airdrop lasted.  

NB. those speculators who drove the price up, didn't have that deep pockets to buy up and sustain the initial price. It's not the initial dev team that is responsible for the initial price or that some Icelanders sold their coins.

I'm guessing by the distribution of Auroracoin https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-auroracoin-addresses.html that of the initial ~30.000 people who claimed in the first airdrops, about 20-25.000 did not sell and are just holding on to the coins.

The coin has entered a new phase now after the airdrop has finished, the left over coins from the airdrop have been destroyed https://bitinfocharts.com/auroracoin/address/AURburnAURburnAURburnAURburn7eS4Rf and a new public dev team has stepped up to manage the coin.

An ISK-AUR exchange is in the works, that will allow the people of Iceland to buy and sell Auroracoin for ISK, without currency controls stopping them. This will start a new price discovery within Iceland for Auroracoin, where merchants can sell AUR and normal people can buy it. My hope is that this will put the feet under Auroracoin and be the beginning of a long competition with the Icelandic króna.

Perhaps also watch this video of Sveinn Valfells, an Icelandic Physicist who explains quite well why Iceland is the ideal breeding ground for successful integration of a new cryptocurrency like Auroracoin. Mind you, he held this speech on July 23h 2013, half a year before Auroracoin was created!

I'm not sure what happened to the AUR-ISK exchange, according to auroracoin.is it was supposed to launch on October 1st.

I've never been to Iceland, but there's one thing I know about that place, and it's that they love some EVE online.

If Auroracoin can be integrated into that somehow, maybe this project can still be salvaged.

As far as Guldex goes, it was not hyped, Just announced. All tough it's almost finished I have decided not to invest actively in Gulden anymore and completely dedicate my time and efforts on Auroracoin.

The AUR-ISK Exchange is still being build and has had some delay. Still we hope to start testing soon. We will officially announce it once testing is done.

We have been looking at the EVE connection before and it certainly is very interesting indeed. Once the basics are in place we will definitely try to get in contact with its developers.

Slow, but steady my friend. Mind you, we are not here to hype the coin or to impress with amazing new features. We are here to build a solid basis to get the people of Iceland to use Auroracoin.

This involves way more attention on fronts that are not usually displayed on forums like this. Recently one of our foundation members had a serious meeting with the Icelandic Tax department and he also has conversations going with other government parties. Soon there will be a one hour session on one of Iceland's more serious IT conferences. You see, we are building on adoption by the people, not by fighting the current government, but by working with them. The Icelandic government has proven already to be able to handle things differently. Just look a t the way they managed the 2008 crisis. Iceland is the only country in the world that actually held the bankers accountable and jailed them!

This is the stuff we focus on besides wallet development and building exchanges...

Regarding the exchange. The reason we have had some delays is that we decided to base it on a different platform than we started out with so we had to scrap a bit of the work we had already done.

The current status is that we have the exchange more or less running and we are currently doing some serious testing on it and wrapping up a lot of details. Our hope is to be able to open it to a closed beta in a couple of weeks and if that goes well we could see an official launch a week or two after that. This is just a rough estimate based on how it is looking now not a fixed schedule. There can always bee some delays as we want to do this properly.

I am waiting for ISK-AUR exchange. Exchange was first announced 5th Feb and still might come this year.

As expected the price declined to almost nothing after the airdrop started and most of the excitement diminished. I think after 25th of march 2015, the final day of the airdrop, we might see something start to happen with the coin again. Given that Baldur will burn the remaining premine coins and hopefully will comment on the airdrop and clear up some of the questions the crypto community has about it.

There is an exchange coming up that will trade ISK-AUR, which is the most needed infrastructure now. In Iceland there are currency controls, which prohibits people here from buy USD then BTC to be able to buy AUR. The exchange will cut through the currency controls and for the first time the people of Iceland will be able buy and sell their AUR for ISK on an open market.

Other great infrastructure for the coin that have launched are the Android wallet and now most recently a chrome-browser wallet. If there are other projects out there let me know.

After the exchange is up the coin will have to get press coverage, where the benefits of using cryptocurrency is explained. In Iceland this should be easy, the ISK has made half of the population lose all their belongings every 10-20 years through hyperinflation. Explain how cryptocurrencies can't be printed or borrowed into existence and how money printing (expansion of the monetary base)  is the main cause of inflation, but for cryptocurrencies the money creation is controlled and limited. How governments can't install currency controls on a cryptocurrency and that a central bank, credit card companies and in some cases banks is not needed.

The biggest challenge is to get people to use it and it will not happen if each AUR is worth 1 kr., then the initial 31.8 AUR or the 318 AUR or even the 636 AUR from the airdrops will not buy anything. Who will take the risk and buy the coin up and give it value, lots of people got burnt when the airdrop started. Hopefully after the airdrop and the launch of the ISK-AUR exchange, someone will start to buy it up to give it value, so that this experiment can continue. If this buying starts while the airdrop is still open my feeling is that more teenagers will claim the coin and sell it for BTC-USD-ISK.

If all this goes through then the "immense potential" of the coin is still there. The worst and the best thing that happen to the coin was the high value it had when it launched. The high price gave it attention in the press and 10% of Icelanders claimed the coin, which is great. The drop in price was also the reason why the attention faded and no newspaper in Iceland talked about it again.

Foundation team members are working on a AUR-ISK exchange, which goes into testing soon. (See the post earlier about this)

A member of the foundation has been in contact with the Icelandic tax office for discussing VAT in relation to Auroracoin (http://auroraspjall.is/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=288)

A member of the foundation will be speaking on a Icelandic conference hosted by sky.is, The Icelandic Computer Society, on Crypto currencies on the 18th of November.

A few other things are also in the process, but not worth mentioning yet.
