sc looks really promising, but i'm concerned companies like Google have cloud storage on a mass scale in the bag (and probably already creating something like this in the background), could this be a genuine contender for mass adoption or is it more specialist?

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

For me sia is already valued too much. Mostly china holders holding this coin. in a month it made over 10x. For long term it could be come back to 50 satoshis.

In my opinion, if Google is the reference in internet it have to think if it need to buy (or invest) in crypto/decentralized projects.
Maybe it has done. Now All projects are small and recent. Time to time.

How far this calculation will work because there are many whales who are holding a lot of SIA coins. Right now the price of SIA coin is very low and what are the chances that the price of SIA will increase.

Sorry, my English is not good.

I have a question.

Now, we have to storage 2000 Sia Coins to get storage. But what if the price of Sia increase to 1$ per coin , then it seems expensive, who will use the Sia to storage?

reputation is everything.

No, you need less SC.
You can compare with other coins to sell/buy. If you want to sell a professional bike for 1Btc (3000$) and two months later btc=6000$, your bike will sold for 0.5btc (if you want to keep the original price in $).
Adjust rates only.

The storage pricing is totally independent of the market value of the coin. As a decentralized network, is each independent host who decides the pricing, and most of us are targeting always at the $1-2/Tb pricing. The value of Sia coin is increasing, so accordingly we are progressively reducing our pricing. Only competent hosts are selected when a file contract is formed, and as pricing is the main component of the score, it is ensured that only cheap hosts will be selected.

Right now, as the market value has been extremely volatile in the last month, several hosts are still adjusting the pricing, so right now the average hosting price is something about $5/Tb, but probably it will be reduced in the next days when the market value stabilizes and hosts adjusts the pricing accordingly.

I don't think you need that 2000SC minimum to rent. There is a 2000SC minimum to host (as a collateral budget), but a renter can make a small allowance if he only wants to rent a few Mb or Gb. The real minimum for renting is probably something like 50SC

Google's business model consists in offering cheap or even "free" services in exchange of your data.

Imho the concept of a decentralised cloud secured by blockchain goes against the very fundamentals of its model. A project like Sia can be a game changer in the business of Cloud, just like the way Google's model was disruptive for directories years ago.

Blockchain technology enables not just a cheaper, more efficient way to perform tasks but it also can ensure privacy, if the customer is concerned about it and choses wisely.

Then we have the issue about data being stored for Government or certain corporations that won't go with hosts if files a stored in certain countries that they deem to be a risk. I know data is encrypted but you still have these concerns about corporate /Government security as "trust" isn't given easily since the Ed Snowden fiasco.

Decentralised Cloud means that the files are not in a single Country, but just parts of them in different countries.

If a Country wants to have access to a file in Sia I guess it should have signed International Agreements with all the different countries where those parts are localised. That is very improbable and even if it wasn't I don't know whether it would be possible to manage it technically. Centralised servers have this problem, decentralised blockchains don't.

Well, it's a problem we do not know what will happen. Some countries censor some websites or cut connections in some cases.
Maybe with decentraliced apps, some goverments will want to regulate or censor.
Today, it seems that it is possible to know what you are doing with your computer, and we know that Tor is not infallible (for example).

Today this amazing technology can be used for great things and for worst things.
Today we are reading and listening to news like this: http://www.bbc.com/news/election-2017-40181444

I think that centralized companies and goverments that want to control our data are thinking about how to control this technology. We are in fornt of the doors of a new way to perceive and understand the economic / social world, and lobbies are waiting to bit their part of cake, in form of money or accessing in our privacity.

Sorry for the brick :p
It's an idea about when I wrote that centralized big companies maybe buy or invest in decentralized technology.

Hi,
i'm newbie in Siacoin, why the price in bittrex is much lower than polo ?

Thanks

It's because Polo has temporarily disabled deposits and withdraws of Sia. Good moment to buy the dip in Bittrex, I guess, we may never see price under 500 satoshi again.

Polo SIA wallet not working yet?

Also sorry for the dumb question, but what caused 350-400 to 700 satoshi price increase recently? Just bitcoin big rise or something else?
