Once SegWit activates the blocks from the old client will no longer be accepted, SegWit will only activate when 80% of the network is minting with the new version. We can breath easy at that point as any forks after would affect only the minority and one that is not capable of block generation. Peter coded the manual version to handle 2.6.0 to 2.6.5 in case we ever need to update the old source code.

Once we complete the 0.13 client Peter is working on we need to rebase to 0.13.2 making the changes in a sane way, smaller self contained changes with the final versions.We have been going through the AcceptBlock/CheckBlock code to look for additional rules there. We picked some up from another codebase which we need to remove.We already know how to resolve this, overlay XBC on to Bitcoin 0.7.2 then we can see what AcceptBlock/CheckBlock rules apply to us only. We do not want to accidently fork!
As to when new client will be ready for release the short answer August without factoring in Murphy's law.
We expect to rebase after Peter gets back from holiday, even if we managed to do it before he would not want the client released while away in case we did get an unexpected fork.He will need to be available during the process.

You can use the merit option for posts.If you don't use merit up it's depleted anyway afaik.Its bitcointalk's version of the like button  

There will be about 75 hours of work to be done before new client is ready for stress testing so after months we are at the final stages.Once testing is complete and things run well in beta and dangers of forking are minimised we should be good for release into the wild.
