I just took a look at the staff page in the members list because I was looking for a staff members name which disappeared a while back. Started with a M but cant seem to find him on there anymore. I swear he was a global moderator.
Anyway I also realised that there are now only 2 global moderaters where I think there was around 4-5 before and only 2 admins where there used to be? 3?
Wondering if a few people have been demoted or if they were removed when the hack occured.

Are you looking for malevolent? He used to be a member of staff and went in active for a few weeks recently.

Staff accounts aren't left inactive for too long. Sometimes people just don't have the time to moderate the forums and their accounts are demoted, at least until they come back. I'd imagine especially since the hack, staff accounts have been demoted to reduce what damage the hackers could do if they got a staff account.

I swear when I first searched global moderators he wasn't there! Just did it again and he's there aswell as grue. Staff accounts aren't left inactive for too long. Thanks for the reply! I guess that might explain why they are now in the member list? they've just been re added.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the difference in the security of the accounts of the current staff members' accounts and the demoted ones? Or is it just the lesser number of staff members that could be hacked?

If you don't mind me asking, what's the difference in the security of the accounts of the current staff members' accounts and the demoted ones? Or is it just the lesser number of staff members that could be hacked? In attacks like this, the accounts of staff and other higher ranked members are usually the targeted ones. If ever a staff member account was compromised due to the attack, demoting could probably be a nice way to minimize the potential damage that the hacker could possibly do with the staff member account. Remember, a staff member's account has more privileges compared to a normal forum member's account.

I'd go for extremely susceptible, given that there are many legendary and VIP members that had been compromised after the attack. Staff accounts could probably be compromised too unless theymos hears a word from them and signing a message together with that word. Until then, it is best to just demote them for a little while until they prove that their account remains under their full control.

Is it just Globals that got removed? Tysat hasn't been active since the 17th of April which is longer than Malevolent. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=17261think there selected as demand rises and falls. recently demand is pretty low
as to your mod searching only guy i think use to be a mod begining with M is monbux (think he use to be a mod but not sure)
I dont think it's pretty low. In fact I think we need a couple more active Globals or mods for individual boards. Some reports on certain subs can take quite a while to get handled. And monbix wasn't a mod but he's an escrow. So are you saying that all/most of the staff members that were demoted were either hacked or were extremely susceptible to being hacked?
Maybe theymos has info that certain accounts were trying to be brute-forced?

Global mods can moderate any and all sections and I think can also ban accounts. Staff who don't have any subs can only handle newbs, and mods like me can handle newbs and any posts/reports of a sub they're a moderator of (Bitcoin Discussion & Marketplace in my case).

There's no difference there. Admins, global moderators, moderators and patrollers are all part of the forum staff. Global moderators have the power to moderate the whole forum compared to moderators and patrollers who are either limited to certain sections or groups of memebers (e.g. newbies). Global mods can moderate any and all sections and I think can also ban accounts. Staff who don't have any subs can only handle newbs, and mods like me can handle newbs and any posts/reports of a sub they're a moderator of (Bitcoin Discussion & Marketplace in my case).
You've beaten me to it. Weren't the admins the only ones who could ban people?

Grue handles some bans occasionally and so did BadBear before he got promoted to Admin (unless it's a power that is just handed out to the most trustworthy). I don't think they can issue temp bans though, that's for admins.

Hence the term "Global Moderator". Now it makes sense. How about forum staffs? They can't handle reports that include Jr. Member up, is that right? I've been here in this forum for over a year now, but still I can't seem to understand things in regards with staffs and forum admins. 'Staff' is just the term used to indicate a moderator outside of the sub they moderate. I'm listed as staff in Meta but if you check in the Marketplace I'll be listed as Moderator. Global mods can moderate any and all sections and I think can also ban accounts. Staff who don't have any subs can only handle newbs, and mods like me can handle newbs and any posts/reports of a sub they're a moderator of (Bitcoin Discussion & Marketplace in my case).
You've mentioned the term "patrollers". What does this certain group of forum staff do? And why can't I see someone here with a title of that name in their account? They just handle reports on newbs and will be listed as Staff. Mitchell and Eal are Patrollers but also moderate their own Local section.
