Only some of the EU nations would back them. Germany and France are likely to stay neutral, along with other smaller nations such as Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. The only major EU nation which is going to side with the United States will be the United Kingdom (but this move will almost certainly trigger the secession of Scotland). In addition to the UK, the most rabid russophobe nations, such as Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, and Estonia are likely to side with the USA.

If they´re going to invade they´ll need to amass troops and materiel at a staging area or areas first. This takes time. Since there are no signs of such build-up now I guess we can safely assume that no invasion will take place any time soon. As for other attacks, nuclear or otherwise, well although the fruitcakes in Wash. D.C. are certifiable I doubt that even they are crazy enough for that.

An aerial attack might be suicidal for the Americans. Their fighter jets are good, but they are no match for the Russian S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft weapon system. Unless the Americans find a way for their jets to counter the S-400, I don't believe that they stand much of a chance. And a land invasion can be another wrong choice as well. In the past 600 years or so, no other nation has succeeded in invading Russia through the land-route.

In short, here are the challenges the Americans might face:

1. Russia is having more nukes compared to the US.
2. Russia is having the best and most powerful ICBM in the world (SS-18 Satan)
3. Russia is having the best anti-aircraft weapon system in the world (S-400 Triumf)
4. Russia is having the best Main battle tank (MBT) in the world (T-14 Armata).

U.S. and NATO don´t have troops capable of any meaningful ground offensive against Russia which leaves really nothing worth considering. Unless they´re crazy enough for nuclear exchanges which unfortunately can´t be fully ruled out since these people have very convincingly displayed through a multitude of war scams that they´re totally certifiable. But those scams involved opposition that couldn´t defend itself. Russia is a whole another matter.

With the amount of nuclear weapons these two nations are having with them (Russia is having some 8,000 nukes, while the US is having another 4,760), it will be almost impossible for any one side to achieve victory without making the planet earth uninhabitable. So they will continue to bark about the nuclear winter and MAD, but will never step beyond that.

The US and Russia are the only nations that have a nuclear triad - that means they have sea (submarines and other ships with rocket silos), land (silos and land based vehicles with a rocket launching system)
and air (strategic bombers) based launching systems for nuclear weapons.

It is not possible for either of them to destroy the following nuclear counter attack with a massive scale nuclear first strike.

Even nowadays 26 years after the cold war the US and Russia have active nuclear forces, which are always on alert and ready for a nuclear strike.

Don't worry. i think, USA will not attack Russia. This story recalls on Cold war. Everyone know, this war was war for predominance over the world. I dont see china staying neutral because china is the direct economic opponent of the us.
And in the end money will govern the world.

Sorry for my bad english . Not good at it.My main point here is US must attack China first. It's clear that China is now a security threat for our region (SouthEastAsia) and will be a thread in the whole world in the future. They don't listen to any countries to stop reclaming lands. They ignore UN and US appeals too. Everyone doesnt like to have a war but if war is the only solution for this so be it.

China is getting more and more powerful with passing time. If the Americans want to fight China, then they should do it now. Right now, the Chinese armed forces don't have the capability to defeat or even to defend against the United States in a one-to-one war. However, their military technology is getting better and better, and eventually it will create problems for their neighbors.
