i do hope bitcoin stays alive a lot longer than the 10-20 years you are saying. otherwise the party would end fairly quick. $1000 by 2020 is a fair guess. can't see it going much higher than that.

I'd say the 10-20 year phase is when we know it's either here to stay or gone for good. No point in letting it die just as it's about to succeed. If it takes off then I think it'll always be with us with the appropriate mods along the way into the future.

I guess something between 1000 and 10.000 USD.

I don't believe it will go much higher, as cryptocurrencies have a limited market. But they can grow in their niche as online payment systems and for remittances and international transfers.

I expect a potential market capitalization of 200 to 500 billion dollars for all cryptocurrencies together. 200 bn would be roughly equivalent to a 10.000 USD bitcoin price, if BTC manages to keep its dominant position in the cryptocurrency market.

That is an ok prediction imo. It will either be in above that because it would have made it into the mainstream or it will be down and out and failed by then. We don't have that long to wait considering  Cheesy OP I think between $1k and $10k

Haha well that's quite the large margin. I do agree though.

Online payments and the remittance market are hardly limited markets - they're huge. The money that can be saved in the remittance market alone is huge so can't really understand why it wont be adopted by them.

I'm one of those people that think it's a binary outcome of a heck of a lot or next to nothing.  By 2020 we should know if it has gained a foothold or not, though suspect it's adoption rate could be more Linux like than viral.

That said, in the last two days I was chatting with two different people and I blabbed out the word "Bitcoin" to explain something (I wasn't being an evangelist), and both pulled me up on that word and asked me to explain what it was, with phrases to the effect of "I must make time to learn more about that".  This time last year it would have gone right past them without hearing the word Bitcoin in their mind, but it seems awareness of the word is growing, even if they haven't dipped their toe yet.

I certainly prefer BTC over lottery ticket equivalent.

Yes, enthusiasm and interest are growing about the Bitcoin and the whole crypto space. This is normal as we see more and more big companies, banks, etc.. talking about the Bitcoin directly or indirectly as banks have talked about the blockchain technology lately. Even if they are talking in this indirect way, they are still promoting the Bitcoin.

I think that the good times are definitely ahead, but we need to be patient. It will still take some time.

If you look at the halving graph, you will see that over time, at aroud 2027, the curve starts becoming really step. Im pretty sure now that what satoshi meant by "if bitcoin survives it will either be worth nothing or a lot" will be solved at around that time. At around that time, anyone holding a decent amount of Bitcoin will either be retired or holding something that doesn't have much value. I think we have way more chances to see Bitcoin to 100.000+ a coin by about that time than we have of seeing it go to 0.

here is one
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/images/en/4/42/Controlled_supply-supply_over_block_height.png

420000 is ~2020
630000 is ~2024
840000 is ~2028
1050000 is ~2032

it is pretty much vertical at ~2032, however even by 2024 93.75% would be issued already and 96.875% by 2028

Yes this will be decent expectation but not sure whether it can reach or not. Because mainly the usage the bitcoins are more in illegal activities so do not know how this will impact on bitcoin price upward movements. Lets hope for the good days to come for bitcoin users.
