The most reasonable explanation is that someone used a stolen creditcard and it was chargedback (that explains the "original cardholder" in their response). You can ask your friend and explain to us how he obtained the funds (what funding method exactly) and if he could show something like a blurred CC statement showing the specified transaction to Bitgold or something...

People jumping on BitGold back and attacking them and claiming they are "going under", they just purchased a company for ~52 Million dollars and are a relatively big company now, there are unsatisfied customers of course (Like with PayPal, you can't say they are a scam but a bunch of people hate them and how they manage disputes/transactions/chargebacks etc...)

I wait for my bonus on bitgold
Bitgold is presented on all forums and adspace.

Yep, the last time I witness an adsense blitzkrieg like this, shortly thereafter GAW went belly-up.

I have connected a one Tom Williams to a mining outfit that just filed for bankruptcy the same time BitGold made their most recent announcements. Also, mybitcoin.com's terms were gleaned from a gold web presence found no where else on the Internet. There is a name I'm currently withholding that was affiliated with both entities.
Not sure of course, but hard to compare a cloud mining joke with a relatively big, well-funded business of this size... Just My opinion though and everyone is free to think the way they want.

Seems legit to me: Paid ~$52M for a company that claimed to have over $1.2B (with a B) in assets. No wonder Soros Brothers invested millions in them.

If you guys happened to have several hours to spare, please take the time to compare http://www.sorosbrothers.com/ to how it looked three years ago: http://web.archive.org/web/20120721051756/http://www.sorosbrothers.com/ Prepare to be shocked, shocked I tell you. Shocked!

Looks like Finkielsztain help create Soros Fund Management, LLC.

Wouldn't it be funny if we later learnt that George Soros is Satoshi Nakamoto?  Wink Wink Wink

If I were a forward-thinking rich financial dude that stumbled upon the workings of Szabo, et al., I would've embraced the key dude(s) with some sweet offer to code for me/my entity dubbed Satoshi Nakamoto and if even asked if they're the dude they would be able to honestly declare that they are not and would have had a big enough incentive in place so not ever let the world know that they coded for me. Then, after some time as passed with other folks advancing my crypto thingy, I would make it look like I just stumbled upon this great thing and intermingle it with hard commodities like gold of which I'd have a handsome position (at least on paper) in place. My tracks would be covered pretty good where no Google-fu dude would be able to put two and 2 (see what I did there) together.

I think it should be pretty obvious that any site that pays as much as they do just for signing up and that pays as much as they do for referrals is a scam. TBH, it is pretty smart what they did, they made the threshold to withdraw high so very few people would ever try to have their "gold" sent to them, plus their "storage" service was free so assuming they are a legit company, it would make sense for their customers to not try to have their gold sent to them.

They are a scam site, and anyone who is trying to get people to sign up as a referral or is advertising their site is promoting a scam.

I never saw a scam with so many faces:

Let's start with this one: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ecornelius

All else to the side for the moment, scroll to the list of 124 companies and open it up. The list is generated via the first one inputted is the last one listed, in this case it's Points (a relative inclusion, I may add, but more on that later). The forth one incuded was BitGold. You'll notice that a many of the 124 companies are ones we're all familiar with.

Scam or not, the entire BitGold entity was/is contrived on a grand scale, currently conducting an ad blitzkrieg via Google.

Wow look at these brand new accounts created just to defend bitgold.com Roll Eyes.

These desperate attempts saying its legit actually make it look even more of a scam than it did before.

I can't speak of the other accounts, but I can for this one.  But before I post again, I appreciate it if people stop emailing me with suggestions of what to shove up my pussy.  At my age I'm pretty sure I have that aspect down to a science.

Melanie, I would like to know what happened to the funds in the end. The original poster seems to claim the funds were not returned to the rightful owner.

The OP contacted me on twitter, and i told them the same thing, the credit card your friend used to purchase these funds from bitgold incurred a charge back. because most likely they were not the likely owner of the card. in the response from customer support it also says the funds have been returned to the cardholder in which purchased them AKA a charge back. your friend used a fraudulent credit card to purchase funds on bitgold and tried to pay you with them. Here is my first withdrawal. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10155902953085721&set=a.10150351821970721.572474.572245720&type=1&theater

I did receive an email last week stating "your acct is being suspended". I freaked out and called them within 2 seconds of it showing up. They reviewed my account, looked everything over and stated it checked out so they took off the suspension and reactivated my acct.  Still that was a pretty big scare as I have been promoting them non stop for weeks. The odd thing is that I can't get enough people to actually sign up. I also mistook $35 to mean $35 US DOLLARS. Nope it's $35 Canadian dollars which comes out to be about $26.77. Not quite the $35 per referral I had in mind sure it's still 0.75 grams of gold per sign up.

The other thing was everyone in the U.S. was promoting paypal so everyone just followed along on facebook chanting the same wrong info. Now this misinformation probably got spread easily because the Head of Paypal (Canada) became the CEO of BitGold Inc. team. Naturally people assumed well if he's there paypal is being offered but that's not the case. (at this time in the states)

Now being in the U.S. we're also limited to how we can actually withdraw. No bitcoin wallet which honestly I thought would be easy to add to any site hell I can add it to mine but BitGold Inc probably has some U.S. banking law hoops to jump through before being able to do this. I really don't know what it is but I wouldn't be surprised if they were getting the run around. Then there is the BitGold card. Another "coming soon" but again it appears that we'll have to wait around for this. If you add in wire transfer fees, referring 3 people ( minimum requirement for payout) will probably not net you anything but max $20 if that much .

Payouts ( first someone said the 1st). Once enough outdated information got circling it became the 1st-5th. Now it's 3rd-7th.

Also payout amounts. I saw one guy that did incredibly well at over $3,000 in referrals through his affiliate link receive all of his money.

Then I saw reports on facebook of I made over $1,000 why was I paid $230 and even my acct and the person that referred me has their numbers way off. Others haven't been paid yet but I'm mentally trying to keep it together and just say "ooh well there was a holiday in Canada so that what this is all about".

One more thing. Notice if you signed up in Canada your free gold giveaway link is 0.5 which is double the amount that anyone else can offer. Everyone here can only offer the 0.25. Realistically it would make sense for anyone that wants more gold to ditch my link and just find themselves a Canadian and sign up for 0.50.

Redemption of the Gold Heart program (timeframe) is also different as well. So you can only redeem that free gold every 60 days.

Ohh another issue? People that sign up through ipad, iphone, android are not converting properly. The acct will sign up and they'll have their bitgold acct but affiliates will not receive credit for all or any of them.

There seems to be some kinks to work out but if you're in Canada I suggest go full steam ahead as it appears Canadians are the ones with the most to gain from being an affiliate or even just offering free gold to others.

Till now whatever I have heard about bitgold , it is a damn legit company. A fake one never asks for proof of your government id and what about those guys who have been paid in real ? Maybe you are a competitor of their company, also you have not posted any realtime proof .

The site is definitely legit. They are listed on the TSX, have real employees, and have spent WAY too much on advertising and their great ref system for it to be a scam.

I never said bitgold wasn't real or legit. I just voiced what has happened up to this point with  affiliates here in the states. They obviously have some kinks to iron out but anyone saying "nothing wrong, nope never never!!!!" will sound mentally off as all companies big or small have some problems.

If anyone wants I can send you the facebook groups that are discussing bitgold or some that just stop promoting until they see how things turn out.  I read one email that an affiliate received and it claimed he/she was signing up fake accounts. Honestly I can't say if that's true or not because it seems odd to go through all of that trouble.  I'm pretty sure if they were setting up fake accts why would they publicly show an entire group that email?

In either case I hope things get cleared up and balances reflect the proper conversions. For now my hands are tied. All we can do is wait.

With this issue above of "fraudulent card". If the person tried to purchase gold with a fake card or whatever I can see why there would be a chargeback. Why would someone blame bitgold for a refund done on a stolen card?

So new updates after returning from the affiliate group on facebook.

They are no longer paying out the 35.25CDN /23.50CDN/11.75CDN/ and 1CDN for sign ups

Peoples accts are still pretty messed up including my own.

Now effective immediately they're crediting 5 CDN per sign up which is $3.81USD.  One woman said " wow that's great" and I thought wait can't she add? It's a shame everyone is caught in a stand still as they can't move forward and can't move backwards.

The cards are now available for delivery as well which is odd that it came exactly at the time most balances didn't make sense. I think people figured well after wire fees what would be left?

I've never gotten behind a company so hard before and right now I'm just shocked. I don't even know how to tell people the umm so remember I said .... well instead of 35cdn it's actually going to be $3.81usd ( We're cool right?)  Ugg. I need to go change all of my links and remove everything that is no longer valid. I also have to go back and contact everyone that wanted to wait the first month out just to see" is this real or are people going to get screwed?". The I told you so is going to come on swift heels.

Like I said, This community is becoming nothing more than a technical flaming fart.. I feel this is the most accurate way of describing a group of people who call company like Bitgold as anything other than amazing. It really shows how "intelligent the users are here".

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/goldmoney-inc-reports-july-key-120900870.html

Transaction  volume for the month of july $7,069,042 and they also added +105,373 (KYC) Know your customer validated accounts.

Bitgold right now is the fastest growing startup company in the world.

After looking at the different amounts that are missing from each affiliate account it appears someone has made a decision to cut 80% of all conversion payouts. I looked at the amounts others should have received and that cut was pretty obvious even with my own acct. . Realistically it may be because they didn't expect so many people to refer in the U.S. like they did and don't want to pay out all of that money.

Also if anyone can look at that graph on yahoo finance their stock lost money. So if they were really doing incredibly well not only with their affiliates not have an approx 80% ( disappearance of their earned monies)  the commission payout wouldn't have gone from 35cad down to 5cad, and their manager that was handling affiliate accts wouldn't have been swapped out for someone new.

I'm not going to post the affiliate names here but these are the posts and they're growing...

1.I had this same problem. I make $317.25 and I only got paid $72.02. If this is correct, this company is a waste of my time.

2.Yeah I had 325 and only got paid 82.72

3. I made over $1000 too and only got 240smthn

4. They owe me $1,600 plus the affiliate payout and I only received $364..Im very disappointed..I have tried emailing him and no response..I try calling support and they are closed..Wth...Smh....And the money they did pay me, I transferred to my bank 5 days ago and still nothing...

Also all of the people that waited to be approved for affiliates are now thinking wow did they just pay me $3 and a few cents for a sign up here in the states as all of the updated info isn't going around fast enough.

The worst thing is that many of these people got friends and family to join. Once this goes out it will go around like wildfire.

Anyone that is truly intelligent can see ponzi written all over this as the little guy gets screwed in the end. I could have been promoting Capital One or Netspend but I really like the "getting gold to everyone world wide" forward thought process.

Far too many Americans didn't trust it and they just proved they were right not to. Sad really.
