Is it worth to buy Coins to run a Masternode?

If your goal is to earn passive income, than not, there are other coins with higher ROI... However if you would like to learn more about Linux and masternode setups, then yes, it is one of the best choice for educational purposes.

no not the best MN to learn  , cause if your new and you manage to build one arc mn , you have to wait at least 2 or 3 days before you get reward... and if you did something wrong then you waited for nothing .....

there are more cheaper mn to build like SKELR  ( https://coinsmarkets.com/trade-BTC-SKELR.htm) .... this coin is also easy AND CHEAP  and it gives you decent reward plus the wallet stakes.......

honestly i dont know why i still running arc mn?? the rewards i am getting is in 2 or 3 days 0.37 or 0.75 arc its an insult with these price ( around 800 sats per arc)

To be honest I don't really agree with this.

1, If you set up the masternode and it is ENABLED, you will receive the reward. As it is for learning and not for profit, it doesn't really matter when, but the only important thing is the status needs to be ENABLED. No need to wait to see the result. If you have done something wrong, the status won't stay ENABLED therefore you know you have done something wrong.

2, Although you are technically right, SKELR cost less per masternode, I wouldn't recommend it, especially not for learning. With the current price, SKELR cost $112 and ACR masternode cost $138... But for the extra $26 you would receive a stable network of 2000+ MN with plenty of support on the Discord channel and helpful video and written guides to help you along the learning curve. You can buy ARC in Cryptopia with plenty of liquidity promising you to be able to sell after you are confident to set up the masternode. In contrast, SKELR is an abandoned project with only a few month history, no active and easily accessible support, the network had only  42 masternodes and it is traded only in CoinsMarkets with very low liquidity so it is very difficult to sell after the learning.

3, If you are getting only 0.37 - 0.75 ARC in every 2-3 days as a reward, something is not alright with your setup.

I would recommend only a decent project to learn how to set up a masternode a project which is listed at least some masternode websites with active community and developer support. The best is to find a project on https://masternodes.online/ . At the moment, ARC is the cheapest there.

thx for the informative post / reply ....

its more principle question . what do i like .......

1: not always mean Enabled is Enabled .... too many times i saw in my MN who said its Enabled  and after few hours it was suddenly pre-enabled .... if you dont check regurarly you dont see it ....
2: lets calculate :
  • buying ARC MN via cryptopia ( btw you can bit on yobit also arcx )  cost price per arc 0.00000974 BTC x 1000 = 0.00974 BTC
  • buying skelr MN via coinsmarket..  cost price per arc 0.00000025 BTC x 30000 = 0.0075 BTC
earnings :
arc = 0.37 arc per day
skelr= 59.58 skelr per day  ( plus stake rewards )

earnings in btc per day :
800 sats x 0.37 =  296 sats
25 sats x 59.5 =  1400 sats ....
skel is swapped to skelr ( r= revive)
i dont know what you will choose  ... but i know what i am gonna choose

I haven't done the ROI numbers on SKELR yet, thank you for the calculation.
You are right, as an investment for passive income, ARC is not good, probably one of the worst or at least it is on the bottom of the masternode.online site. It is/was only a learning for me to make sure I can set up a Linux server, install dependencies, compile the wallet and run the node for months without any issue.

According your numbers SKELR has a 73% annual ROI. (60/30000*365). This is not bad, but not as impressive as many of the other established masternode coins such as PhantomX 239%, Desire 130%, Sucre 75%. They cost more, that is true, but provide better return from a more stable developer team. Is there any reason you rather recommend a few SKELR nodes?

ARC is not for passive income, we can agree on that.

the reason i mentioned SKELR , its a cheap nice learning MN , after a few hours you can see your rewards, and this gives some trustness to the owner..., it was very cheap last week less then 1 sats ( and is now 25 sats)

but the price went higher when the dev left this coin Huh

Those fields are lastpaidtime and lastpaidblock

So, if you have never been paid, this is correct.

This is not correct. Your port is fine. You can check here https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/. Address 92.167.32.110, port 7209.

You just have to wait up to 7 days for your 1st payment. You masternode hasn't even been ENABLED for 1 day yet.

That is exactly what I want to do; I wish I had watched the video you pointed out BEFORE i did it "Cliffs way" but right now I am tring to figure out how to move the coins BACK to my local machine, kill the VPS, and start over.  Really all I need is the exact commands to use to move the coins that are stored on the VPS.   From there I can handle it with a few stumbles.  I set up another MN for another coin tonight that way (coins kept on local machine) and it makes me feel a lot better.  I am glad I picked the cheapest MN to start, I figured ARC will most likely never go far and was just "doing it for the LULZ" and self education, but I really wish the ARC project had a warmer future.  Too many MNs!

To withdraw all your coins from your vps, you need to stop running the mn:

1. Edit .arcticcore/goldminenode.conf and put a # at the start of each line.
2. Close your wallet with arcticcoin-cli stop
3. Open your wallet with arcticcoind -daemon

You can then withdraw all your coins.

Get your balance details arcticcoin-cli getinfo

Send your coins to another wallet arcticcoin-cli sendtoaddress "<an address from you PC wallet>" <amount>

Thank you so much for this information!  I will try it soon - I want to set up my VPS with another provider and move my collateral to my local client.  It seems like every time I mess with or reboot my VPS, I end up with things going wrong.  For some reason now, when I look on my MN VPS with arcticcoin-cli goldminenode list | grep I get "ENABLED";  BUT on my local client, I see the status  "NEW START REQUIRED"  Ugghh.  I really wish I were 6 years old again and my parents gave me a linux computer to play with so I could learn what the heck I'm doing a lot faster lol!  Any suggestions on why my local client is not showing the same status as my VPS?  Is there a place I can look online at the status of all the MNs?  With the infrequent payouts of ARC its hard to tell if my MN is really "enabled" or "new start required"!  Thanks again for the help with moving the coins off the VPS so I can start fresh.

The best video I know (not mine) to set-up a ArcticCoin masternode on Ubuntu with a remote Windows wallet is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H9eEwgTuoA&t=750s

If you find your Windows goldminenode list keeps showing NEW_START_REQUIRED, you can check if that is the true state three ways:

1. On you windows wallet, close it. Delete %appdata%\arcticcore\gmcache.dat. Restart wallet. Wait for sync. Recheck status

2. Check the status on the goldminenode list here https://arcticcoin.org/en-EN/goldmine-list

3. Login to a linux vps with ArcticCoin installed that does not run your masternode and type arcticcoin-cli goldminenode list full | grep "<IP address of masternode>"

That is the latest version. The dev's don't deliver anything, so the likelihood of anyone using an old version is slim.

The wallet theme can be changed. Go to Settings / Options / Display and change the User Interface Theme.

You have to close and re-open your wallet for the change to take effect.

With the growing interest in this coin. Things should be properly stated on this thread, that way us users know what we are doing.

There are meant to be active devs, but don't expect too much. We were promised a new website in August. Still waiting....

There is only one English speaker on the dev team. They are active but only in Russian. They are rebranding currently which is great news for this coin.
