For now, it seems like they're going to get an interim (probably Carrick) until the end of the season. I hear they are bringing in Big Sam to save them from relegation. A bit concerning that they are going for a caretaker for the rest of the season though? Apparently it's going to be someone external, so that rules out both Carrick and McKenna. Not sure who would take the caretaker role? Hiddink?

^ Yes! Big Sam also gets my vote for United care taker manager after Wenger. Lololol.
Damn. United fans deserve better imo. It's really hard not to feel bad for them, seeing the rut they're in. Could it last decades like what went on with Liverpool?

Not sure who would take the caretaker role? Hiddink? That would be SO funny to get Sam Allardyce! The only thing he has in common with Furguson is he chews bubble gum a lot. Manchester United have had only 1 strategy with recruitment of managers,,, to get guys who can bring instant success. They do not have patience to let a new manager take over and build something up. Mourinho still delivered. FA Cup plus Europa League Cup. It was not enough. I do not know if any manager knowing this can take the job. Except for money. No one can deliver instant titles with so many strong competitors who took the time to build big. Maybe finally a big club will go down and down after spending so much money. Next out. Pogba Sanchez Lukaku.

I mean, Moyes does still have 5 months left on his original contract, which for some unimaginable reason was 6 years long. Couples of posts going around twitter at the moment about bringing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back from Norway for the rest of the season. Loved by the fans, but a very strange choice if it did happen.

I knew Mourinho would be getting the sack, but didn't see it coming this week, call it a coincidence but he was sacked from Chelsea in December on the same date. I guess his third season syndrome continues, and it's proved at Manchester United the player is bigger than the club Pogba has won his battle with Mourinho, but that Instagram picture of Pogba was horrible. The most notable candidates for short term are Blanc, Wenger, Conte, Giggs. In the long term there're only two either Poch or Zidane no one else is needed.

It was about time honestly, as much as I have liked Mourinho before his glory era went down from some time now. This is better for football in general and for Manchester United more specifically as they will be guided by a new coach and I think the players will be free from Mourinho dictatorship and as a result we will see a re-emerging Manchester United which will be an added value for the Premier League.
I am sorry for Mourinho but I am happy for Manchester United.

I've been reading some reports and it does seem like he's the main option right now (are they going for the Real Madrid approach? getting ex-footballers as managers?) Tbh, that would be so random, they should get someone with at least some experience in a top league, honestly, what should fans expect from him? If the team was bad with a world class manager like Mou, imagine how they'll perform with an interim who's managerial experience is a shit season with Cardiff and a few seasons in some random team in Norway.

Couldn't have picked a nicer guy though, and I struggle to see him having any big disagreements with any player like Mou had. Perhaps even more importantly though, it seems confirmed that Mike Phelan, who was head coach and then assistant manager for many years under Sir Alex Ferguson, is going to be coming back as Solskjaer's number two. That's as close to SAF as you can get without actually bringing back SAF.

@buwaytress - I owe you a Merit. I’m out atm unfortunately. I’m going to Wolves away (the league game, not the cup game) on Friday night. It’ll be my first away game this season.
On VVD - The guy is an absolute colossus.
Remember I can put you in touch with people if you want to go to a game.
Thanks, I always know can count on you I definitely remember that. Stuck at the hip now to a young kid who needs my care so unless I find someone to watch him for a couple of days at least, unlikely I can travel far but yes, Anfield beckons again and I really want to see them again. Many new faces and need to hear the Egyptian King's name sang out from the stands. I do want to win the cup too, be nice to face City on 3rd being in all 3 competitions. So Baby-Faced Killer is managing Utd interim. Interesting but the club do want to restore some of the team spirit and there's probably few better choices. I'm not displeased our old rivals are plumbing depths, and all of their own doing. Football is such satisfaction.

It’s time for them to be in the football wilderness for a while & wallow in mediocrity. We’ve had our time like that, now it’s their turn. We need a trophy this season though it’s been too long. I’m not greedy, the PL or the CL will suffice

Rumor: Poch to Man United at the end of the season, Eddie Howe to Tottenham. I'd say that's a good deal for both clubs imo, and their new managers if it happens that way.
It's a perfect fit for both managers and clubs.

As a Liverpool fan obviously I despise Man Utd but Poch is probably the best on the market who is attainable (I rate Klopp, Pep, Simeone higher but they’re not going anywhere). Eddie Howe is a risk as he’s never managed a top team before but he likes playing the right type of football. Spurs won’t be able to attract a finished article coach so Howe is good.

Btw, I wonder if Solskjaer would want to sign new players in the next transfer window? Even though he'll be on the team until the end of the season, I think the team needs a few quality signings now if they still want to compete in both the EPL and the CL, though I wouldn't be surprised if the board decides to wait until the next season.

I think it is a bit too early to start thinking of transferring new players although that would be ideal in my opinion. I think they should focus more on the players they have and try to find a more harmonious way to make them play better together rather than thinking of transferring new players. It maybe the ideal solution when they adapt easily but in this phase of the Premier League focusing on the actual group would be a wiser idea.

It maybe the ideal solution when they adapt easily but in this phase of the Premier League focusing on the actual group would be a wiser idea.
Exactly. They've spent enough money with Mou, and I doubt they will want to spend even more money with Solskjaer given he is only going to be there for 6 months. More likely they will want to wait for whoever the new permanent manager is to come in and let him build the team in the way he sees, rather than be given a team of players someone else has picked and have no room for maneuver. Their 1st team squad is just fine on paper - easily good enough to be top 4. They just need the right manager. I don't think Solskjaer is it, but he's not meant to be. This season is already a write off for them.

In case anyone cares, Tottenham just beat Arsenal 0-2 in the league cup. It was a pretty entertaining match tbh, Arsenal deserved a lot more, a draw would've been fair in the first half, 2nd half the Gunners dominated the game but they weren't clinical enough. Btw, Dele Alli's finish in the 2nd goal was a beauty.

Burton will get a chunk of the gate receipts (ticket money) for the game at The Etihad, it’ll probably bag the club a couple of million pounds which will be absolutely huge for such a small club. It’ll probably be enough to financially run the club for a year or two plus the matches (both legs) will be televised I presume. Man City will probably batter them in both games but just to get this far will be amazing for them financially.

Praying for Burton won't do much by looking against the other teams which it may face in the semi finals. It will face one of the contestant to win the Premier League so no matter how hard you pray it won't bring any result in the end. I believe in miracles but not in the ones so big.
I think the league cup will be won by Liverpool.
