The cabinets I looked at were all too expensive.  Went as high as $8,000 US.  I made one myself out of an old file cabinet.  I'm sure the expensive cabinet would have been better, but mine did the job well enough.  The S7's noise is about the same as a vacuum running.  The cabinet made it more like a dishwasher.

Thank you! That looks interesting...

The white sheet on the bottom is a piece of cement board.  Later though I bought a small metal wire rack and put it inside.  The S7 sits on the lower shelf, and the two power supplies are on the shelf above it.

For the intake vent, I cut a piece from a furnace filter.

Love the design. Just got a s7 as well and super loud. Where it will be placed I can get free power and internet but need to dampen the noise big time.
Question. At the back of box where you have the white vent for cool air intake. Should I also add a powered fan to bring additional air in?

I actually got the cabinet at a used office furniture store.  When I told the guy what I was using it for (and didn't need the drawers), he gave me a broken one for free.  Smiley

The most expensive part of the cabinet were the 3 fans.

Thank you so much! This looks like the kind of thing that I might need to set up. Please could you let me know what fans you use and how you installed them/connected them to the power supply.

Thanks, Will

The fans are from StarTech.com.  They are high RPM fans, and VERY quiet.  (Most server rack fans I found were loud.)

They just plug right into a regular outlet.

I bought the safety grills on eBay.  This one is the correct size (120mm/12cm):

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Love the design

I may do something very similar with my s7. Where it is going I can get free power and internet, but need to dampen the noise big time.

Question

At the back of the box where you have the white intake vent. Do you think I should add a additional powered fan to help bring cool air in?

Thanks

Won't make much difference but its up to you. Pull is almost as good as push pull for enclosed.

Nice box Fitzy. Just a small tip, maybe you could place the fans on the inside. For looks and sound.  Wink

Seem very nice. Albeit i think that takes a lot of space for one antminer S7. But 50dB is really nice, and if the tube is curved, so the noise can't get out without hitting the inner tube, you get an easy control over the noise control.

True. I could have gone one size smaller. And curfs would be better. But ones i had it in i didn't feel like changing it.

Its all good. I'm building a shelf with sound absorbant panels;
https://i.imgur.com/rwh2DUn.jpg?1

To give you an idea. Thats an early pic when i completed the "proof of concept" stage, it look better now and the panels are actually solidly held now and easily slidable, but still not done.

Next i'm adding sound proof vents so the air gets through but not noise. With the B8 S7 running loud, that is going to help a ton. Smiley

Hi I got a second hand antminer s7 a couple of weeks ago and I had it set up and running fine for the last fortnight.

Today a guy came to fix the a/c split unit in the same room as the antminer and while he was working on it the antminer started beeping, i checked the temperature and it was fine (53,54 & 59), but the status on the miner pools part of the status page all said DEAD. I refreshed the page and it became blank. Nothing shows up underneath any of the fields.

http://postimg.org/image/dibkp7xep/

http://postimg.org/image/aa73c6b4x/

Kernel Log:
http://pastebin.com/qn9rYvn3

I reset the antminer, powered it off and powered it on, reboot from the miner control and the status page was still blank. I am still able to access the miner by the ethernet network in my house so it is definitely connected to the internet.

Now the antminer beeps for a few minutes every 5 minutes or so.

Does anyone know what is going on?

I am using the standard PSU from bitmain, I have a feeling maybe the cgminer crashed because in the kernel log I can still see some stuff happening. Everything else seems fine. The guy was not working in the same room exactly he was fixing the split unit's compressor which was on the roof above the room, but the a/c is connected to the same room. The a/c & bitminer do not share the same plug although I suspect they are most likely to be on the same circuit which is about 60A.

Had the same problem with an S5+, you can check in the screenshot that it can't display the Hardware Version, only x.x.x.x .
Check mine : http://prntscr.com/9koo21
In my case it was a malfunction BBB, replaced with a good one ( from an S5) and it solved the problem.  Grin

Does anyone know what is going on?

If you're telling me both the internet and power are good then its the controller. Being able to see all the pools are dead does raise some questions though, and why you are able to partially connect. Status page does go blank when a setting is bad, can you give us a screenshot of the status page?

If its out of warranty then you could try picking up a replacement BBB and see how you go from there, although I'm unsure how successful replacements are for the S7.

Hi Dogie,

Thank you so much for your reply, its great to know that there is someone knowledgeable and altruistic out there Smiley

With regard to the status page the miner, it only showed as DEAD till i refreshed it then it showed this screen:

http://postimg.org/image/dibkp7xep/

something really weird was going on in the house, i checked my bitcoin wallet on my laptop and found that several transactions (receipts) had not been received, i then noticed that it there were 0 active connections, the  time the connection was lost to the laptop (which is always on - it was about 10 hours previously the connection was cut) probably coincided with the miner losing connection and messing up, but since i usually have no business going into the room the miner is in for most of the day (its an outhouse in the garden that i wired an ethernet switch to and has a/c split unit)  i wouldnt have noticed the beeping until the a/c repair guy came and i had to go in there and turn off the a/c.

I reset the router twice and then portforwarded 8333 on the router just in case, then i sat dejected and wondering which door to use the s7 as a doorstopper for, when forlornly i decided to check the miner status page one last time and lo and behold, it was back to normal..

Do you think that this is related to the issue that happened to the miner? The miner status page is back to normal now and mining at 4.83th?

Maybe its god taking revenge on me because i won at blackjack yesterday.

Yes, weird behavior can be internet related.

Hi all,

A quick question. I have a S7 using Bitmain's APW3-12-1600-B2 as the power supply.

Now, my problem, my miner randomly starts, I repeat, randomly starts. I put my miner all over the house, in different wall plugs, these are some of the things that happen

1) I can mine for 4 hours then the miner dies
2) I can mine for an hour before the miner dies
3) The miner starts up for only 5 mins and then dies
4) I could on the power to the miner, only after 5 mins, lights will appear on the miner, a few mins after that, then the miner starts.

This occurs randomly anywhere I put it. Initially i thought it was my house's wiring. Then i tried to use a multimeter on my PSU. At first, each connector could provide 12V power. The longer I left it on, the least power it provided till at the end only 1V per connector (this also includes the earlier connectors check)

So some im gonna send my psu for warranty.

My question, is there a possibility that the miner could be damaged? or the miner might have problems also which causes it to shutdown?

Its not impossible that the miner could be damaged but my money is also on the PSU. The best thing here would be to try a different PSU on the miner, but i guess you would of tried that already if you have one?

If you have some ATX power supplies, you could try multiple on the S7 to see if it work properly. Personally i just plug all the PSU on the same surge protector, then flip the surge protector on, so that all PSU are powered at the same time as the controller board and it work flawlessly. At least my EVGA all power on at pretty much the same time. I don't know if it would be as clean when using different brands.

A little help. I just got my Antminer S7 today and I am having a few issues getting it up and running.

The red light stays on next to the ethernet cable. I think this means it has a problem.

The problem is, it is not working. It show nothing under the miner status page.

Not sure if the picture will show up or not, so I tried all 3 ways. Hopefully at least one of them will show up.

Please help!

And yes I know I am a noob.

You tried HTML and thats it, the 2 others, you just pasted the same link 3 times. Forum is BBCode, not HTML.

Its;
Code:
[img]imgurl[/img]

But it wont work anyways because you need to be a Junior member.

Anyways, what are you doing? What PSU are you using? Did you connect all 10 PCI-e ports? It kind of look like the 3 ASIC boards are not connected to the miner.

I have 2 hp 1000w psu's with X-Adapter REV 2 & 14AWG THHN Cables(the kits you see on amazon, etc). I can't get the red light by the ethernet port to go off. I think that light means it's in some kind of fault mode. There are no stats in the miner status page, not even the fans. It's like they don't exist. I need to figure out what the problem is. Can I just plug in one board at a time to see if they work independently to see if one of the boards is bad?

Oh, it's also very loud and I can not set the fans manually.

Please help.

Yes all 10 power connectors are plugged in. The control board is connected to all 3 hash boards with the ribbon cables. I unplugged everything and I tested both power supplies. I was getting 12.79V on each connector. Anything else I can do?
