There goes my hope of getting more coins under 3500  Shocked

Congrats on the buy!! Grin

Thanks!  Sorry to foil your plan.  You know what's cool though?  I registered the https://www.reddit.com/r/aeoncoin/ subreddit just because I didn't want some dirty troll to try to hold it hostage against any of the devs.  It started with just 1 subscriber.  With a little polish, and the news that aeon would be revived as a CN testbed, it had 17 subscribers in a matter of days.

Now we're up to 66.   Grin Cheesy

Feels good.  For me, aeon is three things: A Cryptonote hedge against Monero, a chance to own the "litecoin" of the Cryptonote world, and a chance to financially support experimental development of CN features (the game isn't valid if the tokens don't have value).

I feel like at this price I have a responsible amount of BTC in Aeon considering what it is.  I sure as hell believe in it a lot more than the many random Scrypt coins floating around.

Price in the 6000s now.   Shocked

I added a little more to my position here because I see I'm not the only one buying.

Crazy that it was less than half a cent when I started this topic and now is around 2 cents each per aeon.

Great choice.  I wish I had the funds to buy when we were from 2k to 3k.

Oh well, I feel like even though all my buys have been from 4k to 7k, ultimately I'll still be happy with them if/when we head north of 10k (and perhaps even one day 100k Satoshis).  I never had patience for the "sit and slowly acquire game".

On the flip side, in the Aeon ANN topic you can find people back in fall of last year when the development had collapsed and Polo was on the verge of delisting the coin complaining because the price had fallen down to 200 - 400 satoshi.   Shocked  Now that would have been nice, but on the other hand, those people had no reason to believe Aeon was anything but a dead CN.

Yeah, I dumped my 6K there IIRC at 1K sat. Sad There is an opinion that huge amount of AEON just lost after delisting, because people probably deleted their wallets, but I don't much believe in it.

Poloniex should definitely re-enable AEON soon, they have all the reasons to do so, volume is growing and we will have nice exchange with btc/aeon and xmr/aeon trading pairs. It is only a matter of time.

It is not something they would do lightly until the database support is merged because of the resource requirements. If the coin gains in value enough and becomes actively traded enough, they would likely do it anyway, but for small coin they probably won't commit the resources to a memory-based wallet.

I have made the decision to donate the ion.cash domain to smooth and the Aeon project. I believe I spent $40$49.15 to register it afair.

If you would like to accept this meager donation, please tell me how to transfer it to your desired registrant. It is currently registered at GoDaddy under my name.

It would be best to complete this before I become too busy on other matters.

P.S. This is orthogonal to any other issues. The name ion likely was a subconscious invention after learning smooth was working on aeon. I'd prefer to not have two coins with such similar names (in addition to iota). I have other available choices for names, so I think this name should go to whom was first.

I think the best would be smooth pay you some AEON from the community bounty fund he is managing (provided he accepts the domain) for the domain, I think its a good idea and I propose the term 'ion' as the equivalent of one satoshi (0.00000001 AEON).

Sure, that's fair. One or both of you please propose an amount on the main thread. I don't think it should be a lot as this isn't something we really need (certainly not a high priority for the project) but as an expression of gratitude there is no reason not to distribute some coins.

I second that, but (correct me if I'm wrong) cryptonote coins are organized differently than bitcoins.

So each macro unit can be broken down into on trillion atomic units, not just a hundred million.

This would elegantly reduce to

1 AEON = 1,000,000 ions.
1 ION = 1,000,000 atomic units

The atomic units could be anything from atoms, to electrons, to quarks, to strings.   Tongue Cheesy  Just my thoughts.

I unlocked it for you at GoDaddy (subliminal "who is your daddy?").

Good to see it has suggested utility in your coin community. In my polls it seemed to have at least a 50% approval rating and stood up well to other names in terms of voting even when I was discouraging voting for it.

The reason I spent $49.15, was because Godaddy was the only registrar that had it available. I expended a fair amount of effort to find ion.cash available, as it was not available on the other registrars I normally use.

Is smooth's stake in the coin public knowledge?  Also, I'm going to try to set up some mining for this thing with my spare time.  I have an NVidia GTX 880M so I'm sure it will help the network out a little bit.

Also, if anyone can recommend a dedicated box (for these cryptonote coins) I could buy in the $300 - $500 range I might consider that as well.  I have free electricity where I live, so it basically costs me nothing to run a miner.

Oh wow, that does look awesome and is a lot more conductive to stacking in a bedroom and forgetting about.  The fact that it has Mint built in is amazing - I hope in the future we see more computers with Mint built in... it still has a little ways to go before it can rival Windows ease of use, but I use it on my trading computer and love it.

As far as that rig though, wouldn't the lack of fan cause it to overheat if you turned it into a dedicated miner?  Also, I suppose I need to educate myself about how Cryptonote mining works - I know it's structured such that ASICS and such are a little more difficult to create for it, but I'm not up to speed on all the details.

I wonder how an i5 box like that would compare to a bare bones rig with a $300 graphics card.

They don't overheat as miners as long as air is able to flow freely around them (don't throw clothes on top of one). They're hard to beat in terms of hash/W but very expensive as hash/$.

I have about 10k that I mined myself (still mining although obviously the rate has slowed down) plus the donation fund isn't really mine but I have control over it. (Using one of those fit-pc boxes in fact!)

I like that we have a decent amount of the currency to use to incentivize development; I know that things like "MyAeon" and dice sites will be needed among many other projects.  I do feel it's unethical/undesirable that some of us have a great deal more of the currency than even the developers.  I'm willing to commit AEON funding as we go forward towards not only you, but also others that help with the coding and development.  Without that, and ongoing experimentation using Aeon as a Cryptonote test bed, the blockchain is useless anyway.

IMHO, the proper ordering is Devs -> Miners -> Community -> Investors in the hierarchy of a blockchain's foodchain.

Hey fam.

I'm executing a buy for 45,000 AEON over on Bittrex.  Some people were foolish enough to leave it laying around under 0.00005 BTC.

Their loss.  Wink

Nice timing. Aeon became a lot more expensive soon after you made your purchase. I see there has been work on mining recently and some other discussion regarding inflation. Have I missed any other development updates?
