This post needs more attention and is a reason IOTA could be a ticking time bomb by Metasophocles /u/guselbindel lost $30k because he reused an address, but his post is being downvoted, so it can't see the light of day: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/7gwl38/hello_guys_i_have_lost_30k_in_iota_and_i_would/One of the responses: You (accidentially) reused that XTU-address. Between the sending of the 39GI to Bitfinex and the receiving of the 23 GI from Bitfinex, there have been two snapshots. When entering your seed after that snapshots again, your balance showed zero, as it was supposed to. All history, addresses and transactions have been deleted. You then generated an address to receive the 23GI from Bitfinex. But this address was already generated (and used !) for the 39GI months ago. You shouldn't use an address for receiving, if you already sent from it. Reusing receiving addresses is pretty standard in the rest of cryptocurrency, if doing so can cause you to lose your IOTA, the official wallet shouldn't allow it People wondered why the mods tried auto-warnings for IOTA posts, but when posts like this are buried there is a clear brigading/manipulation problem. I'm not saying don't buy IOTA as a hedge against blockchain investments, but be careful with your funds and know there are serious issues with the tech right now. Edit: note that top voted comment suggests this isn't an issue at all LOL, nice job IOTA community. https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/7gxdx8/this_post_needs_more_attention_and_is_a_reason/

Someone recently posted this video in the German IOTA thread. It has not shared by anybody yet, so I do. IOTA is in "serious discussions" with central banks. Oliver Bussmann - former CIO of UBS bank and IOTA advisor said that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQEsItb922k#t=46m22s

I've also read that one should not use an address twice. I have the following case and I would like to know if my tokens are potentially in danger. I have a seed with two generated addresses in total. For the first address, I once received IOTA. For the second address I received two transactions. So far I have not sent any IOTA with both addresses. So I used an address twice to receive tokens. Should I act or are my tokens safe? I totally understand your concerns. Iota is acctually not made for investors it's made for machines and reality usecase in IoT. That's one reason (beside the tech) why that big companys are partnering with it. And Iota needs to create that for them ASAP, because they don't like to wait. That's why Iota is actually heading all their ressourcces to develop the protocol to make it production-ready. But you should see it as an opportunity... invest while there's a bullshit wallet and laugh when that changes And by the way... it can't be easily hacked. Yust if you use the same adress for sending, twice. But i (like every investor) agree it's actually not really good usable for humans.

You are safe, you can even receive even more on both addresses if you like. Only when you send IOTA now, you should generate a new address for receiving IOTA.

Their wallet isn't safe. Don't wait until the next exploit is discovered.

Never leave your coins on exchanges, e.g. if Bitfinex closes (by whatever reason) your coins are gone!

Hey admins and IOTA fans. Can you give me a reliable IOTA paper wallet just like MyEtherwALLET for Ethereum ETH? I'll put some bag from it in long term.

IOTA reaching 1.42 USD on Bitfinex today; up we go again; this coin is so amazing! It looks like the run to $2 will materialise in the wake of a further appreciation of Bitcoin. But it will be a hard fight with so many IOTA floating around. With the news of CME opening Bitcoin futures from December 18th, I think prices will go a little bit up. BINGO re CME

It'll just get hacked, wouldn't bother Dude, you made a mistake. Everyone should know that you can't send from an address twice or send to an address you have already sent from. Stop acting like there is an attack vunerability in Iota. There is not. Follow the instructions and your coins are safe. Don't and lose them. Take responsibility.

I have been adding to my IOTA wallet at various times over the last few months and I have not verified that I am using a new address each time. I have assumed that when I "Generate Address" and "Attach to Tangle" a new address is used each time... is this correct?? And would this be true for sending too? Thanks for any help

This is really interesting. It makes it very tempting to cash out EVERYTHING and go all in IOTA for the long hold.
