My guess is that Seattle will have a brand new name because, in the past, the Seattle Supersonics merged and moved their team to OKC. Also, Adam Silver said that "The NBA may soon be adding a pair of new teams in Las Vegas and Seattle" so it's likely safe to say that these teams will be brand new. Anyway, we will know it soon during the pre-season match of Clippers and Lakers. Little side talk, Mayweather and Lebron James have expressed their interest in owning an NBA team in Las Vegas. So maybe these two highest paid athletes will become a partial owner of the new team in Las Vegas but only one of them will be a majority holder for sure.

That's quite new, good if they will expand so they can accommodate plenty of talents. I remember before, I think Durant started as a Seattle Supersonics before he goes to OKC. Will be following this update but I think it will not take effect this coming season. I like it. I remember there were 32 teams in the NBA before. Seattle always wanted to bring back NBA to its city. I don't know how they lost their team earlier. These last years I also heard rumors of Las Vegas or Nevada wanting to join the NBA too. So how will NBA gonna do this? Las Vegas or Nevara and Seattle pretty sure belong to the west. Maybe transfer some of the teams that are located in the middle to the eastern conference? I'm thinking both Minnesota and Oklahoma transferred to the eastern conference. But if they want to draw a line to make sure there was no bias then it's Minnesota and Houston going to the eastern conference. Team owners in the east might complain because Minnesota is looking like a serious contender and everybody knows that Houston is rich and it won't take them long before appearing in the playoffs again especially that they have many future draft picks. The defunct teams have their own reasons why they disappeared from the league, some of them are already old enough to dig what's their reasons but the league has to move on and currently there are 30 teams in the NBA and there's a speculation that it will be 32 again, adding Seattle and Las Vegas. To answer your question above, here's the likely situation if the NBA will indeed add two teams in the league. One Western Conference team would have to be moved to the Eastern Conference to balance out the conferences. With 16 teams in each conference, that means one Eastern Conference division would hold six teams. Below are three speculative ideas on how it could shake out: * Minnesota Timberwolves * Memphis Grizzlies * New Orleans Pelicans

They can combine their assets and net worth for them to be the owner of that possible addition to the league but, it could also be already offered to someone that has been waiting for this opportunity. It was reported that Mavericks forward Maxi Kleber is finalizing a three-year, $33 million. I think it's a good offer that he got from the Dallas management. He is a good compliment to the play of Luka as he can spot him wide open in the corner or any spot and hit that 3 so good for him.
That's a decent contract to me for a role player. Maxi Kleber is one of the best role players in the Mavericks right now and his chemistry with the team, especially on Luka Doncic is perfectly well-balanced. Aside from that, Kleber has a good shooting stroke and can drain shots at the 3-point area. This is good that Kleber is being recognized in the Mavericks. He has the potential to keep on growing. And that contract could also be expanded once it ended as the Mavs is good in taking care of players that want to stay with them. Well, good for Kleber and good deal for the Mavs.

..... Sometimes these signings look unsuspecting in September but come the season it ends up being the piece they needed all along. Sixers aren't too far off.
I agree. I actually thought of Howard's signing with the Lakers when they won the league as a reference. They're not the what we call as "impact players" but their contributions can still turn the tide on important or crucial games. 100%. Usually a team with solid depth and bench play are the teams that make noise. Long season, lots of injuries, etc. Starting 5s are great but most likely every team will go through a shuffle during the year and the ones making these types of moves are best situated. And vets are nice to have so the youngins stay in line during the year.

I don’t know for sure but as far as I know, Mayweather should have a lot more money compared to LeBron James. Whether he has more money than LeBron or not, I am pretty sure that Mayweather has a huge amount of money. And yes LeBron James has a lot of money as well because you know in NBA a lot of money is always coming in and going out. So, if they want they can obviously own NBA teams. But are they going to own a team together? If that happens it will be interesting to see who has the majority of ownership.

Both have a reported billion worth of assets being a sport personalities themselves so for sure they can do it together. Not sure about the naming though regarding Seattle Supersonics, if they can retained it the better. They have a history already, so I do hope the the Commissioner will still allow it if ever Seattle will try to have that NBA team revived as per the rumors.

I agree, it was a decent offer by the Dallas team, I guess they have to preempt it and don't want to happen what Jalen Brunson did. So they offer him that I will say a big contract for a role player like him But we have seen as a role player, he is really that good, the chemistry in offense with Luka. And he can play defense too in the middle because of his height.

I like this one, actually, they should realize it, and give everyone a job so they can continue chasing their dreams. With plenty of competition in the NBA, it's just important to add more teams.. What would happen here is more teams means more excitement as they will also have fans or followers.
however, since it's just a rumor, let's not expect too much as this might not happen too.
They should. The only obstacle that I see is who will be the owner of the said team. It requires a load amount of money and is invested with a lot of risks. There's no assurance if it will click as it will demand the support of the people of Seattle and Las Vegas and also from outside the country. Another addition to the opportunity it will give is for more European Players to join the league, we know some of them are aching to play in NBA and showcase their skills. I feel like we need less teams instead of more. I mean I get that it would be a bit of an excitement if new ones are added for those new ones, but the old ones would not really have any way to go up. Look at the current league, Orlando had 22 wins, Pistons had 23, Pacers had 25, Rockets had 20, Thunders had 24, Blazers had 27, these are all the teams that stayed under 30 wins, and yes they may recover and be better in the long run thanks to drafts, but that doesn't mean they will be, plus every year there are teams this low all the time, maybe the teams change but there are some here. Adding 2 more will not change much, there will be at least 5-6 teams who will tank.

I heard this story too somewhere on social media. I cannot find a legitimate source yet because some are saying it is denied by the NBA and other articles are just spreading rumors. We need to clear out if it really came from the NBA. If it does happen then it would be more exciting. It gives opportunity to new and old players and free agents a chance to be part of a new team then it could add more jobs to those who will work at the said venues. IMO, it's not a bad idea, expanding is telling the NBA fans the entertainment is growing. I like this one, actually, they should realize it, and give everyone a job so they can continue chasing their dreams. With plenty of competition in the NBA, it's just important to add more teams.. I disagree, the more teams the more watered down the talent is. There are plenty of teams to where the back end of every bench are just fringe players. Add more teams and there will be less talent to go around. More doesn't always equal better and I think the NBA this is the case of that.

Yeah, it would be great if the NBA returns to Seattle and the new team continues the SuperSonics franchise. By the way, as far as I know, the SuperSonics left Seattle in 2008 because the previous team owner couldn't negotiate with the local government for funding to update the arena, then the new team owner couldn't persuade the local government to pay for a new arena. As for a new team in Las Vegas, it would be great to know how it will even be called.

"Las Vegas Gamblers", Hilarious. I don't think they will let that name. WNBA has Las Vegas Aces. Maybe Las Vegas Jokers/Jacks in NBA. (Kings is taken.) I disagree, the more teams the more watered down the talent is. There are plenty of teams to where the back end of every bench are just fringe players. Add more teams and there will be less talent to go around. More doesn't always equal better and I think the NBA this is the case of that.
This is where the salary cap becomes a powerful rule. They should be strict about the luxury tax too. Probably a bracket on just how much the excess money other teams are willing to pay. A limit. That could help balance the star players in different teams instead of flocking in just one. I like the idea not just because it will offer new jobs to players but also the backbone of it from the coach and his team to the floor cleaners.

But surely it would be nice to see the name back to Seattle Super Sonic.

So is this a new framework? I'm confused at the finals in december? and then the rest will continue with the regular season? Anyhow, if this is the new framework then teams will also have to adjust as well. And I agree that they should keep the Supersonics, as I have said, lots of memories and histories behind that name, from Payton to former 3 point holder Ray Allen to Kevin Durant.

However, since NBA is business, it's very important that the owner can continue to manage the team for a long period of time, rules can easily be change, the risk of investing is very crucial.

What do you mean adding a team? That in-season tournament that will most likely commence on 2023-2024 season will have 8 teams in the single elimination round and other 22 to continue playing as is. That's still 30 teams. So, what do you mean adding a team? If they add a team, NBA should've 31 teams in the next coming seasons. I have not fully understand how this framework works. Though NBA is now making changes, but I'd still like the traditional framework.

Those teams are the former solid franchise, for sure the managements will find ways to bring the old glory back. I'm still unsure with how the that new framework will work and we never know if that addition will bring more good competitions. As far as I know, the current system and teams are still doing fine they just needed to keep trying to bring best assets to their lineup.

Why do they need majority ownership when they can have a split of 50/50? Both have a reported billion worth of assets being a sport personalities themselves so for sure they can do it together. Not sure about the naming though regarding Seattle Supersonics, if they can retained it the better. They have a history already, so I do hope the the Commissioner will still allow it if ever Seattle will try to have that NBA team revived as per the rumors. I think there can be some type of superiority complex between the owners, talking about Mayweather and LeBron James. That is why 50/50 ownership is the most optimal option between them. I feel like if one person has the most ownership he will try to have authority over the others. That is an invitation to problems. Seattle Supersonics are surely going to make a comeback. I am confident they will be allowed. But I think they will have to be wait until 2024. Because I think till then they are not independent in terms of media rights.

The biggest investor will of course be the majority holder of the upcoming Las Vegas team for sure, however, we can't say yet that they will be the owner though because I bet there have been a lot of investors lately that are interested to own a team in the NBA that have more wealth than Mayweather and Lebron combined. For the record, LeBron James is wealthier than Mayweather and the latter is nowhere near LeBron's net worth at the moment. Apart from his boxing accolades, Floyd Mayweather is best known for being one of the richest athletes in the world. However, taking his overall net worth into account, 'Money' is still far off from being a billionaire. https://www.sportskeeda.com/mma/news-is-floyd-mayweather-billionaire
