I won't put too much blame on Jonathan Kuminga for that move. There may be other reasons why he badly wants out of the Warriors. Let's remember, Draymond had trouble with his teammates, and one of them was Jordan Poole getting a punch to the face. It's a possibility that Kuminga was also not being treated well by his teammates or the management.

Also, there's no talk about his agent. Aaron Turner. Although he did explain the whole career trajectory, according to him, it's all Kuminga's choice.

So, it could be that he is not up to the money. There's a possibility that he wants his name marked and remembered in the NBA, which I think is a good thing. Very few will do this because it's always about the money, the contract, and how well they will make before their retirement. Some don't even think about championships anymore as long as they get good contracts.

I won't judge Kuminga. If the Wolves win this season, some would probably say he made the right choice.

For winning a championship, yes, but I don’t think that is the main goal of most players. I’m pretty sure most of them first want to make as much money as possible in the NBA, and winning a championship comes after that.

In his case, he did not get the contract he was expecting. So even if he wins a championship now, it does not really change his current deal because that contract stays valid until it expires. And we also know the bonus for winning a championship is not that big compared to what players can earn from a better contract.

It already happened several times before with different players, so I wonder why they still don’t learn from it.

If a player is already offered around $20M per year or more, that is already a huge amount of money. At least before rejecting it, they should already know if there is another team willing to give them a better deal.

The problem is some players believe too much in what they think their value should be, without considering how the business side really works. Once the market changes and the offers disappear, regret comes in, and that kind of mistake is hard to undo.

Maybe they are confident that a team will offer them with a higher salary that their previous team are giving them. That's why they didn't sign in the first place. And it's obvious that they are looking for more money because they believed in their talent.

And they doesn't care about the business side of it. As they are thinking that team owners have a lot of money in the bag and they are willing to spend it to them. But there are exceptions and that there are players that really made that bad decision. Not over though for Kuminga, 2 years is good enough for him to show and proved that he is worth the money that he is asking.

This word “maybe” is fine if used correctly, but it should be calculated well, otherwise it can end up as a mess.

It is just like running a business, you don’t invest and start something if you don’t believe you can succeed. And it should not be based on pure belief alone, it should be backed by proper study. In his case, I don’t think they studied the situation well enough, and that is why their expectation failed. Now it is a lesson learned the hard way, because that $22 million a year he turned down will be very difficult to get back.
