If he's solely doing this because he wants out of the Pistons it would be fair and understandable, but because he just basically wants more than $200m is wild! Maybe Lakers could have considered him had they not got their missing piece with Walker Kessler, aside them I don't see any other title contenders that were having a center-trouble.
He will definitely be a nice piece for LA to tandem with Luka since Duren will create an inside threat for Lakers including the offensive and defensive rebound which they really needed badly as their team is composed only with offensive player especially Luka that already-1 on defense. However, I hope he will continue playing on Pistons since they are already a solid team and in momentum to go further due to built chemistry. Nevertheless, I don’t know what Duren is thinking by being a hard to get type while both money and good team is already on his table.

I mean he showed his true colors and being a good person also has some weight when choosing a player for your team. Ah, and the Lakers need somebody that can help them in the playoffs, and Duren last season disappeared when it counted, yet now he thinks he should be paid like a franchise player, which is ridiculous. . Anyway, I really hope Detroit doesn't budge, Duren will bet on himself and have a have a bad season. This would be another hilarious case of "fumbling the bag" which would be well deserved.

The Pistons gave him a good offer already, but still he did turn it down. And it looks like this is going to be ugly and messy as we have seen the first sign like him not going into the Pistons media day. It will surely rub it in on the team itself and not going to be good at all. I do hope that the Pistons won't budge and let see how far Duren can get with this kind of attitude.

He could just say no if he wants out, why would he have to make the Pistons increase the offer. Now if its true he only has 24 hours then we will know if what you said will come into reality, if he will not sign the contract. Probably other teams are interested in him but who among those teams are willing to pay him more than $200 million for that long-term contract?

He wants the max contract for being an All Star last year but fell short on the playoffs so i think what the Pistons have offered was probably fair. If he is truly a hot commodity on the free agency right now, some teams should have give their offer so that the Piston could match that offer but sadly there is no offer that came. I think the best move for Jalen Duren now is to sign the qualifying offer then perform well this season to justify the max contract he is looking for or else he might end up just like the others who bet on themselves but failed.

Maybe if he average like 25 points and then more than 10 rebounds and did good in the playoff, then maybe he has the right. But he completely disappeared in the playoff and they are lucky that the teams that they've face have injured superstars otherwise they could have exited the first round already.

Greed, and nothing more. Given how quickly salaries are rising in the NBA, if he had signed a five-year guaranteed contract with the Pistons now and continued to improve during that time, he could likely have been in line for a much bigger contract once that contract expired. Well, for now, it seems he's put himself in a situation where he risks ending up with nothing.

2017-2018. That's the last time we saw a back-to-back championship. So, this is a good question. Can the Knicks hold back the NBA’s wave of parity, or is change among champs permanent?https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7643987/2026/10/01/new-york-knicks-repeat-champions-parity-roundtable-nba/Over the last eight seasons, we have had eight different champions. Starting from last season and going backward: The New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Lakers and Toronto Raptors have hung the previous eight banners. Not only that, but only three teams — the Celtics, Miami Heat and Warriors — have made multiple finals. In other words, 43.3 percent of teams have made the finals in the last eight seasons. I watched an interview with an NBA star (champion) before (I forgot who it is), and he was asked why it is difficult to get a back-to-back championship. He said something about how the "energy" to get it one more time becomes less. I agree. When you claim the highest award in the NBA or maybe any league, it's difficult to find that strong will to win it again. The answer is simple, because you already have it. When I heard that, I was more amazed by teams that won back-to-back championships. What more with what the Chicago Bulls did? Anyway, this will be a tougher year for the Knicks, and maybe claiming another championship is possible because of their strong roster, but the "will" should be intact to make it happen. What do you guys think? Can the Knicks make it possible?

I hope this guy will make the best decision as we saw before Dennis Schröder missed the salary big time and after that he went to different team with low salary. He is young and talent though the game is changing and he is basically the big guy from before. Centers now are shooting better than other guards. He should stay in Piston for me and grind more, show his skills and demand more in the future, as for now he should sign and grind.

I think they will have to put a stop on the flopping of SGA as it's not good for the NBA. And it's not just SGA is doing it, there could be a lot of players already but SGA it's really obvious and the referee looks biased.
The bad thing is that SGA flopped so much that it can spell winning or losing a game. So I expect that the referee are now train to spot flop by SGA and not call it so that SA knows that it's not going to work now as the rules have change and foul baiting is not the norm.
If NBA referees really start paying less attention to flopping, whether it's by SGA or any other player who abuses this tactic, it will only benefit the league. In my opinion, the NBA used to be more enjoyable to watch when players actually fought for the ball, weren't so soft, and didn't try to show off their acting skills on every play. I don't think though that we will go back to that era wherein it's really physical. We might see physically only in playoffs because the stakes are high. As compare to those regular games, gone are the days that everyone is fighting for the ball and there are no flopping. Hopefully at the start of the season, referee are going to be sensitive on such calls of flopping like what SGA made famous. Let the players decide the game and not the referee calling those useless fouls.

People don't complain about the Michael Jordan era as not having enough champions. I personally like to see greatness and what I'm seeing in the league now is teams being added and not enough talent to go around. Most of the superstars in the league are over the age of 35. There is a serious lack of talent at the highest level and spreading it around more isn't going to be great for the league in my opinion. Although, it may force someone to rise to a new level to dominate the league with championships.

But that is bad if the league will allow flopping. Remember that was the case on James Harden during his prime. But the NBA did something about it and now Harden's can't flop as much as he can. So it's just a repeat and obviously, the NBA shouldn't allow it. We also have the case on Lebron James before, called Le-flop because he has this ability to get calls, but then the league also adjusted. So in the next upcoming season, SGA flopping shouldn't be tolerated by the referee and instead call it as offensive foul as he is the one committing on the contact and not the defensive player.

They already got Walker Kessler, and I think it's a better version of Duren. So I don't know if Lakers are interested on him. Although there could be some teams that might want to take a risk on Duren and offer him a good contract. But everything is up on his performance this season. If he goes on a MVP caliber and put the Pistons with Cade as the top team in the East then maybe we have a argument for him that he deserves more than $200m contract. But if his performance goes down, then we will know the answer that he is just a one season wonder.

After all of the doubts and condemnation he still signed it as per Shams: https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/2105847309187567738Well, hope it ends well for both parties though. Happy for him to got that contract but he really need to shape up when it matters. Fans are in disbelief with all these dramas tbh. If I were to Duren I'll not disappoint the fans taking home that bag. Boos might be a thing tbh.

If I were to Duren I'll not disappoint the fans taking home that bag. In the end it seemed to have worked out well for Jalen Duren, he was able force the Pistons to increase the offer from what was reported to be around 170m-190m and rejecting the $200 million offer initially, then apparently waiting close to the deadline to see if the Piston might budge even further. A win win situation for both parties in the end, Detroit got their All Star back, while Duren got his big bag.

Good result but dangerous move, that $200m could have been gone if things turned sideways.. still, a success is a success, not many could have pulled that off.. good job for the agent because it turned out positive, now everything is settled, he will have a long-term contract, hope he will play like how he is paid so the team will not regret it.

TBH, I already have this feeling that he'll stay because money-wise, it will still be the same. I think I've said it already, but if he goes to another team (assuming that he signed that qualifying offer), the max contract that he'll get will be 4 years $189M. So 1-year $9.8M + 4 years $189M is just the same as that 5-year contract that the Pistons are offering to him.He tried to squeeze every single buckos out of the management, but they know that they have the leverage with this negotiations. Nice try Duren. Well, he didn't turned out to be the likes of Schroder and Kuminga and Noel. Nice decision by him. Both parties do win. Duren staying with Cade and Ausar while the team still has their reliable big. Now the problem is, did that negotiation affected the relationship between Duren and the team itself? Or they'll just both move on and focus more on winning games. Now it's over, and we're days ahead before the regular season starts. Are the money ready already for those parlay bets?

Finally, because if he didn't agreed and signed that then the world is waiting for another Dennis Schroder and Jonathan Kuminga. But I guess that the deadline ticked into his mind that he's going to get that retirement money while he is young. Whether he perform or not for the period of contract, he's already set for life. Well, good luck to the Pistons and let's hope he's a good help to Cade.

It was an extremely risky move on the part of Duren and his agent, and it's safe to say they got incredibly lucky this time. In any case, if the Pistons' front office decided to sign him to such a contract after all, it means they still see enormous potential in him, especially in the long term.
