It was a one time deal to attract interest in the project and grow the community. Also it seems the devs are just good people for doing it. I think it was successful and now miners get their chance. I was lucky enough to get in the airdrop, but at the time it was tough to tell how well it would really progress. Later I realized it's potential and would have bought some months ago had I not had some already.

Everyone, please do not respond to Gembitz / quote what he says.  He seems to thrive on attention.  Starve him, and he will fade away.

On v1.0.0 release, we will also hold a vote to determine whether or not Devs should begin lightning network integration.

A few people have been asking for an explanation of Decred's PoS system.  Here it is Smiley

Two validation systems are integrated into the Decred blockchain, Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS). The PoW system (miners) create and validate new blocks added to the blockchain. The PoS system allows ticket holders (voters) to participate in verifying a block's validity. The PoS system acts as a 2nd authentication factor on the chain. If 3 of the 5 randomly selected ticket holders approve, the block is added. The PoS tickets are also used to vote on a change to the protocol (hard fork) over a period of time. Without support of the super-majority vote, the minority chain will become unsustainable due to invalidated blocks.   ///  Analogy: Imagine a toy car factory with machines (miners) that make toy cars. Each toy car produced is approved by 5 randomly selected quality inspectors (voters). If 3 inspectors approve, the toy car is good. If we want to turn the toy car factory into a toy boat factory instead (hard fork), we need at least 75% of inspectors to agree to this change over a 1 month period. Once that happens, even if we happen to have machines still making toy cars, it will be hard to find 3 of 5 inspectors that approve on building a toy car.

When I purchase a ticket and it votes:

1) How do I control whether it votes yes or no on the block it is called to vote?

2) if the block is not accepted due to a majority of NO votes, that also means I don't get the stake reward. Why would I ever want to vote no?

by default votebits are set to abstain, here an explanation https://docs.decred.org/getting-started/user-guides/testnet-voting/#an-explanation-of-votebits if PoS stakers vote against a block only PoW miners lost their reward.

In the long run, it will pay off, even if you bought high last raise. Decred will go skyrocket if ppl see it's real potential. Just stay calm and keep the coins in your wallet.

Me, too. Keep in Wallet carefully.

I suggest you to withdraw coins from exchange and lock them in Proof-of-Stake mining Wink
Nice to have some free coins, while you waiting for the rise.

The coins for POS and the tickets are inside the blocks that are mined by the POW miners.

Each block mined by POW has 5 tickets + 25.57 coins currently.

15.34 coins for the POW miner
7.65 for POS miners (1.53 DCR per ticket)
2,58 for the development fund.

The payment system is self-sustaining and doesn't depend on the input of new users. Where is the ponzi? Are you functional illiterate?
