If he doesn't know what that is Cheesy
Why did it take this long to reveal the perpetrator's information. It has been nearly a month now. Now the end of this can be filed away with and closure can be had for the ones that can now go to his door and demand payment either in person or by a lawyer in that guys country.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I think it worked out for the victims since he obviously feared the doxxing. They received back around half of their damage. I believe when he would have been doxxed then there would be no reason for him anymore to pay back. He would wait until he gets sued since he was doxxed already anyway. Damage done, nothing to fear anymore. Because chances are really not small that he would have been sued never.

So this is probably why he paid back half of the losses so nobody can sue him for being under the allowed limit to be able to sue in his country. I think it has to be an amount over $5000 usd which is probably a lot more in Canadian exchange to be able to put up a case per individual to claim it as damages.

Interesting idea. I think that might have something to it. Though i think when such a threshold exists then it would only be a threshold for criminal investigations. Victims still could go after him the civil law way. Though the less the damage the higher the chance no one will spend more money on that topic.

I think he started paying back when people started to connect him ot other scams. It might be way way worse for him when he can be connected to those.

I think you can sue for any amount you want, just might be not worth it especially for foreign victims.

Oh shit, didn't see that one. So that's from 2014 meaning that he is basically a pro scammer but why was he paying some members here? Trying to get rep back? We all know even if he paid everyone back he wouldn't have gotten his rep back so why do it?

Something i'm wondering about is why he was not able to hide his real identity. It should be possible without much effort to have this eric being an invented identity. Even possible to receive packages with it.

If that is the case then paying back part of the small scammed amounts from this escrow account could be a way to make everyone sure that this is the real him. Leading people in the wrong direction and making them lose their courage.

Well, at the end he really might be not the smartest when reading his stories. It's really funny how i now await him playing even that part for reaching a deeper purpose. Well, you never know what to trust on when it comes to scammers it seems. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Wouldnt fraud be a reason to be excluded from practise of accounting.   I guess an actual conviction might be required but still seems very reckless way to lose a livelihood not cheap to acquire ?

This is so bad for bitcoin itself
Its not really about bitcoin, I think the same of exchange failures also as they work opposite to bitcoin being distributed and are naturally flawed systems.  To run escrow and then sell your account is incredibly low and does not exclude responsibility by the original owner in the theft imo

To be excluded from being able to work in pretty much any field that requires some kind of license or background check, you pretty much need to have a conviction against you (or a guilty plea, or in some cases entering into a divergence plan that results in the charges being dropped). Even an indictment is not going to be sufficient to prevent someone from getting a license, although few companies are going to want to hire someone who is currently under indictment.

For what ?
Did you guys forget you spent years saying no regulations ?
You all don't want ANY laws and chant FREE MARKET like a broken record until..

I have been laughing at the scene before and during GOXX ROFL

@Quickseller
That was more directed at the whole crypto scene than you Wink

Maybe you will all start to rethink the concept of crypto-regulations ? (after enough of these stories pop up)

Oh, I can verify that's actually his steam ID. He added me for a trade a long time ago and never removed me.

Well, until 10 minutes ago when I sent him a message. Insta-block, how rude!  Cheesy
