Fundamentally, the price of the bitcoin depends on the supply and demand of the coins. The usage will increase the demand.
Short term price movement is dependent on long & short games at various market... Yeah but bitcoins price doesn't depend much on that. Just according to the technology the crypts are running successfully without much falls. i agree, all the long and short games are effective but not as much as the supply and demand and also the increasing demand the more usage will cause. Supply and demand and ... demand? It makes an interesting change from "supply and demand and [insert bogeyman/angel]"! lol. i mean to say the normal changes to supply and demand due to price change and other things. and also what fricircled mentioned above, the increasing number of services and new people that find out about bitcoin (new investments) will lead to increasing demand

I read interesting article about Bitcoin price prediction for 2016 and I have to say this fragment caught my eye: "Many are bullish on the Bitcoin price on this account alone. Daniel Masters, co-founder Global Advisors, a Jersey-based hedge fund with interests in Bitcoin startups, predicts that the price could go as high as $4,400 by the end of 2017. Of course, this will make the 2013 highs of above $1,100 like nothing much. "If OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) came out tomorrow and said, 'in six months' time we're going to halve oil production', the oil price would instantaneously react'." I found this metaphor with OPEC very accurate. I wonder if this will be the scenario we might see. More at: https://bitcoinaverage.com/blog/what-could-shape-bitcoin-price-chart-in-2016

following hypes have always lead to something good, and big hypes mean there will be a big thing at the end of it because the size of the hype means more people will get involved with the hype. Eth is a clear example of such procedeure.

Yeah, these are the Hypes which will increase the price of bitcoin at halving or around halving days. As with these hypes, everyone start to collect bitcoin, and they start to believe on bitcoin a value of bitcoin is created in everyone heart, and people do not sell their coins at lower price, so the price increases.

This concerns me about what will happen to bitcoin price after 2016 ? Will it crash after the block halving ? Is there any upcoming incident in 2017-18 that may push the price up again ?
yes price should go to 800$ atleast after halving, and halving is probably most important bitcoin event in 2016, because it will rise price of bitcoin for sure and by couple of hundreds atleast, also pretty important thing for bitcoin is lots of new bitcoin sites to buy and sell for bitcoin, this will rise price in 2016 too

We will also increase the block size to 2MB or higher this year.

But they have to be more popular also to make it also more acceptable and that would be nice for Bitcoin itself I think.

i think that there are way more possibilities that the bitcoin price will go significantly than that it will fall pretty soon because of the halving that is incoming i consider it as a really good investment because of that that i can believe in because it will most probably give me a lot of money and i can invest some good money in it without any worries

I'm cool with whatever happens. I'm in a Zen space all up in this piece. What I'm very curious about is how the halving will/won't affect the price. I've been saying that it's priced in and I'm pretty sure at least some market efficiency is in play. If it was a certain thing that the price is going to spike, everyone could make money--and that would make no sense whatsoever.

It already might be too late. When all the hype turns to nothing, prepare for a lot of disappointed bagholders. Nothing can kill a product like great expectations.

THat's right, hype affect the price somehow...Mostly if everyone is thinking about high price, they will keep their coins and wait til it happens...Which in return when a high price came in everyone will dump and will start to make the price drop again, it's like a cycle...

Hype is really what make the price of bitcoin go like crazy everyone is hyping about the price will which will go up when the halving is done. it's good and nice to see the price go up due to the hyped up block halving, but we all know that hypes come and go. they don't last very long. i am looking for a slower but way more sustainable growth for the coming years. we have seen the price get dumped down from high price levels way too often. in order to get the average non tech people to adopt bitcoin, we need the price to become more stable and more stronger.

Yes no one can really tell what will the price be but it will certainly go up thats what we are all waiting for. Certainly is one of the most overused yet overly-inaccurate word to describe bitcoin's price movements. Just so you know, halving doesn't always necessarily mean price increase or moon. Not being a pessimist here but just telling out the truth.
