Are any of you invested into NEM (XEM)?   I was just looking at some of the larger cap alt-coins as I am trying to diversify a bit more.

Any pros or cons that you guys have in sticking a couple grand into this one?

I was also looking at bytecoin, but from a few people I heard that it was pretty heavily pre-mined.  I am of the opinion that it couldn't hurt to have at least some of each of the larger cap coins.   Obviously some are going to fade potentially into nothing over time, but I think the upside of a lot of them far outweigh the downside of not getting involved.

So this thread has run its course as the number of coins and lists tracking them grew. But it still shows up high on searches and seems to get a lot of hits.

Maybe it could transition into being a list of cryptocoin lists? I've spent a few hours today trying to find a list of cryptocurrencies that have transitioned from POW to POS or similar. If bitcointalk already has a list of lists active on some thread, maybe a sticky with a link to that thread would be helpful to all new comers.

This list includes coins released no later than in 2013. It's just for historical purposes and some sentiment for those who remember the altcoin boom of that year.

I am happy that this thread has come out to the surface right now. This was originally posted way back in 2013 and the list of coins is already very long. I am sure this is not yet a complete list at that time. This was posted in January. We are more than 4 years already since then. The number of coins have been multiplied several times. I noticed that Doge was labeled "A joke turned into quite big market." Until now, this coin is still very much alive both as a joke and as a market player.

Pretty amazing list of the alternative coins and very good distribution amongst different categories. Never saw the coins that way up until now. Lols.


I had only two categories of coins and that's bitcoin and the other one as altcoin. This distribution explains a lot about the scripts used and also the basis of algorithm. I think using this information we can speculate the performance of coins in the market. Lots of puragatory coins and almost 30-40% of coins are dying. That's really helpful, will be watching this page. :-)

List given is very much and varied from altcoin, the list provided shows how its development altcoin and how it works, really information makes me very amazed of the diversity of altcoin
