The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Asked that in Meta. A pinned post is an "official" one and as it is just one among many such lists now, it doesn't deserve to judge which coins are major or minor imho.

Bitcoin was a prototype and I'm sure one of the alt-coins is better[1] than Bitcoin but to overcome the massive network effect of Bitcoin it would have to be 10 times better, not just some 2 times. And with every shop that accepts bitcoin the required improvement has to be even bigger to overtake Bitcoin. That is why for now I have only Bitcoin.

[1] "better" is a complicated thing here as it is not one-dimensional.

I can say yes to it and perhas you are right.

But to be more clear: which one for you is better? Smiley
I might say "yes" to that perhaps one of them is better.

But as you wrote ""better" is a complicated thing here as it is not one-dimensional."

The network effect is part of a coin. You can't just take the bare repository and assume it's being applied to a tabula raza. If it were like that, I would prefer a coin with proof of work to bootstrap the distribution and proof of stake to avoid wasting energy later, with a 50% / 4 years bootstrap phase like bitcoin.

My only concern with bitcoin apart from the wasteful POW which will get changed if ever a bitcoin is valued at a million dollar again is not with the protocol. It is the doubts about who created it. I know people say it doesn't matter but if whoever created it, did so with the intention to crush every competition, amassing 80% of all bitcoins, then yeah, it matters to me who's master's puppet I am here.

For some reasons BTC transactions are taking so slow, I send something the other day, i had to wait 3 days to clear off from the Transaction page, it was in unconfirmed state for days.
I think because of heavy usage with transactions, miners, sending receiving and other data fetched.

Does anyone know about Europacoin.org, they are launching Sunday, they say you can mine with CPU 300K a day woow, that would be sweet, hope I can grab some fast coins. If I do not have to pay for equipment,..

please look into adding myriad coin to this list, it's not a copy paste/premine/ipo/animal/country/shit coin, it's a geniune game changer, a coin that is asic resistant by embracing asics. what ? yes what I just wrote, this coin has 5 independent algorythms each with it's own difficulty (1 block re-target 2.5 minutes for each algo to get a block). the algos are sha256d scrypt skein qubit and groestl making the coin minable with any hardware you have asic gpu or even cpu. it doesn't get any fairer than this. other details can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483515.0

Check out Zeitcoin. This one has a purpose other than just pump and dump. It has a great community and strong, active development team and was recently added to MintPal. It is a POW/POS coin that will soon be in the POS phase, so now is the time to buy while the price is low. I believe this coin has great long-term potential as a viable alternative in this fiat currency controlled world.
