There is a practical issue of giving users the option to send transactions transparently or privately. If majority of transactions are conducted without privacy, then most users are actually not benefited from such technology, and the minority of private transactions automatically become suspicious.

I strongly believe that privacy has to be enforced on every transaction to be most effective.

Absolutely.  A fundamental premise for anonymity is that everyone uses the same protocol, of course.  If you're the only one on the street with a bag on your head, your anonymity is worth zilch.  If you're the only one using a closed envelope, you stand out too.

Most users of ZCash will use the anonymous feature.

Well, you seem to be right.  A few months ago, only 6% of transactions used the anonymous feature, and now it reached already 29%.

I don't think it a currency worth investigating as company is making extra ordinary claims about the coin and till now which all coins have told that they will be next bitcoin or will increase later turned out to be a scam.

What about the other 70+%? What reason could they have for getting zCash?
They must be the pure speculators. Otherwise, they could have picked up any other alt.

Do you ever read about zcash? I don't know what makes it different and special than others coin but people who has invested in it clearly know what they do as the price continue to rise and consider as top 10 higher price altcoins behind bitcoin. Again, there are a lot to read and learn about.

Late reply, but this is a very bad idea. I'd never buy a coin when it launches because I know the price is usually fluctuating for a few days and then gets stable. You can be either lucky or unlucky, so you can buy for too much without being able to predict it. Z-Cash somehow "scared" me because many people said it would be better than Bitcoin and that BTC would be overtaken by it. It was not, and Z-Cash was a BIG failure for the first-week investors. I can't imagine buying for 2-3BTC and then the price goes to 0.045BTC. It was an insanely big loss for them, and I bet many are still holding their money hoping for a huge increase in price once again.

I always said that no coin would get past BTC, because BTC was here before any other Coin. It was here before any other one and we see that Dash, for example, has a market cap of +$600 million, which is huge.. and people are still investing in the coin while some are accusing it of scam.

^ Yup.  This is the real deal indeed.

I forgot to include this coin on my "next mega pump" list.  Wink

I have been waiting years for this coin! Although, their disclaimer for the alpha is kind of scary... I guess we should wait for the beta?

No seriously.  The tech their team is trying to develop will make Dash and Monero look second rate.

Yup, its proper anonymity.  As in direct anonymous payments, no mixers, no 3rd parties, nada.

There are no mixers or third parties in Monero. You construct the transactions entirely on your own (can even be done offline). Dash does use a masternode to coordinate coinjoin transactions, which is sort of like a mixer, although it can't steal your coins.

Functionally the main difference between Monero and Zcash (esp. after RingCT is integrated) is that Zcash has a larger anonymity set at the level of individual transactions (all previous users) than Monero (some randomly chosen subset of previous users). In practice the difference is likely somewhat narrower, but difficult to fully characterize.

The trade off for that difference in anonymity set is a wide gap in efficiency, a wide gap in cryptographic complexity and maturity, probably a gap in implementation maturity, the trusted setup, some functional limitations, and some stronger cryptographic assumptions (meaning more ways it can break, but not necessarily to a degree that is a huge concern).

Anyway given that Monero already uses cryptography rather than mixing, the option to swap out the cryptography with zerocash exists, just as regular ring signatures are now being swapped out with RingCT. There are no current plans to do so for the above reasons, but if zerocash techniques become more mature and trusted (and perhaps efficient), and it becomes clear that's what users want, it could be done at some point.

tldr, these are both serious, credible cryptographic techniques to deliver private transactions, with different advantages and disadvantages.

What about having to trust that the people who generated the initial zcash parameters really didn't keep the data? I know it's very unlikely, but having to take the founders word for it rather that cryptographically proving it kind of defeats the purpose.

It is not, But just remember don't expect a lot of the speculation on the zcash. No one knows about the exact date for the pump session for the zcash. Looks like the bitcoin has recovered from its dying.
Don't get into the altcoins right now. You'll see more dump on every altcoin.

Of course you can mine zec with these cards. They are the ones that I am using to mine zec. You will get around 300 h/s with stock settings and Claymore miner. With may stable overclock settings I get almost 320 h/s per card.

My guess is that zcash (zec) will reach 0.1 btc by the end of the year tops (most probably in 3-4 months). Looking at what happened to monero, ethereum (ETH) and ethereum classic (ETC) I see a similar pattern. ETH and ETC were dropping for months until they exploded. Who could know that when ETH was again at 6$ it will become 50-60$ after only 3 months. But this all has its explanation. The big mining whales have resources to cause 100-1000% increase of the price. So I guess the 100% increase of ZEC that already happened won't be alone. At least I hope so because I bought back all my mined ZEC.

Yes you can, but I think these cards are more profitable for ETH or ETC if you pay the electricity. Check out the mining calculator http://whattomine.com.

ZEC is continuing its developments. And it has some solid backing so it will really increase back soon. With the help of some whales it might fast track sooner than expected.

I think the price is quite stable recently.
