For the most part, yes. With concepts like golem, I always wondered how to ensure that the guy rendering your video doesn't steal you content. What if it's sensible material or a new video of your band and someone uploads it on youtube without your consent, stuff like that. Or the other way around: What if you would render something illegal? You might realize this too lately. Another point would be, that it makes messin with your data harder. For example, if you'd use plain data and wanted a video done, someone could render the first few minutes properly and throw some bogus data in the rest of the file. If you weren't careful enough, you might pay without realizing, that most of what you pay for is garbage. When the guy doesn't know what they are working on, they can't mess with it as easily. I didn't realize, that computation on encrypted data is possible. So, this protects both sides, actually.

Am I right in assuming, that the contest is over? Any results?
It's not over yet But nobody seems to want 2 BTC except one guy so far. His work is amazing though. Let's see if something better comes Yes, when exactly does it end? I've started "an entry" but would like to know how much time is left... P.S. Sorry for having dropped off of the radar for a bit. I've still been lurking and keeping an eye on the github. (more on that later)

Am I correct in that this means that there is just under 20 hours remaining? That should be plenty of time...

Am I correct in that this means that there is just under 20 hours remaining? That should be plenty of time... Yes, judging by your posts timestamp the forum seems to run GMT time. So we have plenty of time left. I have implemented the Kimoto thing as loracle suggested. While it looks fine in the python testbed it looks awfully bad when implemented in the client and tested with a pool of miners running the latest version of xel_miner. I agree it's hard to pull of a reliable retargeting algorithm with the 20 POW/block&work cap, but as long as we come up with something that distributes POW payments evenly in the long term, it shoud be okay I think. Glad to have you back! At several points we really felt lost without you!

how about EK post a donation address for XEL?
So when XEL release i would like to donate 5% of my share to support XEL long term development.
It's a not easy project, but EK did a great job and never disappoint us.
Also for more donation, we can reward HMC some XEL for his talent work too.

I also like this idea, but I do not want to hold any funds and with it the huge responsibility. What we could do is introduce a "shared address" which can only spend XEL to other addresses when a) a proposal has been made to send x XEL to some address and b) when the majority of "donators" have votes in favor of this proposal. Adds some complexity but should not take more than a day to program. This would be true "decentralization" ;-)

Isn't that what a fund is for, that you say "you know better than me, so you make the decision, I trust you"?

A few small bugs in the miner are being solved right now, and the new retargeting method is being tested locally right now ... I guess we can put it into the testnet in a few hours.
Now it's time for some contests where people can get some BTC if they crash the software or manage to steal funds. Getting rid of any potential bugs is the main part that is left.
Everything else works perfectly.
Tu sum up: We just need to get the GPU miner ready, and stress test for the last remaining bugs and that's it i guess.

@EK as a part of a bug bounty please post at public passphrase (aka private key) to XEL-9HQ9-BXCV-TARZ-BRDNA account. We want to test if we can spend/forge/do anything with this account. As all of you know this account is used for redeem XEL to original donators. This address also need to be secured for a lot of attack factors. I know that this address could (and will change) when mainnet will be live but we need to be sure that this address is bulletproof before mainnet (and logic/code is in place before then).
Thanks! I'll test this address as soon as you post passphrase for this account.
