Title.

So. Electric cars are gaining in popularity, therefore the popularity of gasoline will be going down. Won't the price go down, leaving the oil industry in trouble?
Not really there are different ways to produce electricity, hydro meaning powered by water using dam, coal, bunker fuel, natural gas, wind and solar, some combine natural gas and coal. So price of oil will remain high unless all power producers shift to renewable energy one that does not require fuel like solar and wind.

Even the popularity of electric cars is going to be on the trend. Still gasoline or oil will always be oil. They are not just being use for cars, and I think
they will still be used by electric cars as it won't be completely operated by electricity.
Some how it's other parts needed oil for its maintenance.

Don't forget that there's also politics behind it. There are numerous scientists out there who discovered a way to run car's using water, how come it did not go main stream? the government did not support it. In the Philippines, 1 scientist proved that it can be done and showed it to the Government, after a few weeks or months that guy died for unknown reason.

As far as i know, there aren't many power plants anymore that generate electricity from oil, electric cars need electricity too, so if for example 100% of our electricity would come from oil, then they would in fact be more polluting than regular cars. If enough electric cars are being used and replace petrol cars, the price of oil might go down and this might have an impact on jet fuel and therefore also on plane tickets.

Upon checking our record here, I agree with you on that there are around 6,500 power plants out there run by renewable energy like wind and hydro, around 1,500+ for natural gas and 1,200+ for coal and least number is power plants run by fuel oil around 1,100+. But those equipment's like turbines and generators needs to be lubricated (oil).

Opec has invested much in terms of crude oils concerns, developments and utilization backed by the big top country's that develops and invents technology powered by fossilized fuels.  They did invested in these using huge amount adding up also their huge debts to finance it.  They are still in the process of finding ways to upgrade of what they have started.  And they need to make upgrade cycle by selling the old tech to finance a study for a new tech.  And they are seriously focused on that big investments.  So they don't want to have competitors of a same thing powered by another source to have a share in the market.  They will keep and develop your ideas but will never bring it to the market.

I don't electric cars are needed 100% of electricity, they still need oil for them in able to operate. And you are right, the price of oil will go down if the demand of oil will down also because of electric cars and that's a good thing for people that are still using cars and operated by oil.

Just to add, if the reason why we are shifting to EV's or electronic vehicles is because we are trying to avoid use of fuel or oil we have to re-think that EV's needs batteries, and production and disposal of batteries have an impact in the environment and health of those who produce those batteries.

for me it is not very affected. basically many people will see that oil industry will be going down because of electricity. but if you notice, the consumption of electricity will rise and electricity source uses oil in their generator. thts all

Me either, for me I can't see it as a threat for the oil companies / industry. Because will always be essential for the people and they are not just
depending to the use of cars for their products.

Oil is not renewable, one day it will be gone. In some areas oil reserves have depleted and some oil wells are already abandoned because oil is already  taken out. Switching to electric cars or vehicles is likely the direction that we all will do in the future but for now since there's enough oil for the world to consume we have to stay with driving our cars with fuel oil. Iran has been sending out oil like crazy because they we're not allowed to sell oil for a few years and that's the reason why oil price dropped to it's lowest level.

If you ask me,electric cars have no future. The slow loading is a big problem and EV are still very expensive.

If people invent hydrogen fuel, this will replace the gasoline.

Maybe the next 20 years, the oil industry will still dominate.

I can agree with that when oil will run out but still from the start of oil drilling in the middle east up to the present they are not slightly above the median level since they had already stopped the development of powerful machinery's instead they used the natural way and the old machinery's extracting it and it is successful thus decreasing the cost for new expensive technos to be made. And the whole drilling span of time is just around 60 years? So 60 years more is a way to go not including the trapped natural gasses that they have.

Well, this could be true. However we are moving towards sustainable energy at an incredible pace, so I doubt that we will see a lot of oil users in a decades' time. This is bound to happen, since oil is not a renewable resource.

This will also be bad news to the US, since their currency is strongly dependent on oil being traded.

I want to see Bitcoin being incorporated from where the electricity is being generated, to the point where people pay for at the charging stations. There should be mini stations built into parking meters on the street and you will only have to scan a QR code with it's address and pay for the electricity with micro payments. I can already think of many other applications where people can have charging stations built into their post boxes at home and where strangers can charge up and pay for electricity in emergency situations, when they run out of electricity. ^hmmmm^

In the name of Holy Christ. What did I just read ?Bitcoins incorporated from where electricity is being generated.Have you ever thought of reading through any of the actual concepts including Bitcoins, how do they work, electricity, how charges are being transferred ? That post of yours sir is the main reasons why parents force us to go to School.
electric cars would always be bad for the selling of oil only if everybody is going to drive an electric car you know there are always people who stay with the normal engine

off course are electric cars bad for the oil industry there are allot of electric cars that dont use oil in his engine only to keep the hydrolics move smoothly and noting else.

Yes I don't see the Oil industry slowing down in the next couple of century, oil producers will find a way to look for other oil fields. Nowadays they even come up with enhanced oil recovery to make sure there will be no left overs of oil in wells that they drill and develop. Lets keep in mind that most of cars, trucks or anything moving with wheels are designed for fuel consumption if there will be a shift to EV's then that will take a lot of time for people to buy and dispose old vehicles.

But people would really love to use electric cars as it is good for the environment, if the government would support that advocacy then the big businessman cannot do anything about it but to shift to other business and leave the oil industry.

Yeah, definitely. Any new energy source will be detrimental to the oil industry. After all, oil is a non-renewable resource that will be replaced by another energy source soon. But electric cars will speed up that process.

We are already seeing lots of electric cars, but we'll see a lot more in the future.

It is a mental block that people have that charging takes time.
You don't care about the time it takes to charge your phone, right?
