Hey guys, just got back from holiday.

My apologies for not being able to reply to all messages.

Claymores Dual Miner.

Thanks I will check it out.

CDM mines ETH and DCR together.

I use the ETH only mode, and CDM can push the 390 to near 30MHs.

I used qtminer before this because of the Stratum mode, now it's all CDM for my 390 rigs (149.5MHs@5x390@1290w-1350w@-100mV/1028Mhz/1500Mhz). Quite slick this miner, and its has many bells and whistles like failover, monitoring, solo-mode w/o proxy and it's Stratum compliant too.

I will be attempting Eliovp's Nano mod for my first Nano rig (I am still trying to get an afternoon off to do this). And combined with CDM, I think we have a winner for the highest hash at lowest possible wattage, amps for ETH mining.

Have you tried to mine with 1200 memory frequency. For my XFX 390 cards, there is no difference between 1200 and 1500MHz with 1050 Core.

WI'll try it out. My 390 is MSI so I think no issues in underclocking the memory mhz.

When mining Eth, you can easily down clock that mem to 1125. Works perfectly Smiley

And if you can, undervolt AUX (Voltage given to the memory controller), it won't make such a huge impact, but every bit counts Smiley

Greetings!

When you reduce the  memory frequency from 1500 to 1200 MHz, it will save 20% of energy consumed by the memory.

Mmm, not so sure about that though :p

What is true, is that 20% of 1500 = 300, in other words, 1500 - 300 = 1200. So you reduce your memory by 20%, not the energy consumed Wink

Hi,

I just tried the -100mv Mem bios on my new XFX Radeon Nano, and strangely I do not get any GPU readings anymore. That includes core clock, mem clock but also temperature.
MSI Afterburner also shows completely nothing (see screenshots).

Did I miss anything? I'm on Win10 with 15.12 driver.

Any ideas?

Additional question: Is it normal that the driver is R9 Fury Series? There's no nano?

People should read more carefully Smiley

If you flash, make sure to completely turn off your system, as in turning off the electricity (this because the memory controller can be reprogrammed).

if for some reason, gpu-z does not show the correct info, reinstall every third party app, like AB, Trixx, GPU-Z or whatever.

If this still does not solve your problem, you can do another thing, if you open crimson settings, and restore to default settings, reboot, your issue can be resolved.

If still not ok, use DDU to remove your drivers, reinstall them and you'll be fine for sure!

Good luck!

You also saved 20% electricity on the memory parts as the power consumption is linearly proportional to the operating frequency.

Try 1125, 1200 is a weird number in case of your timings.

Do you happen to have a ROM mod for R9-390?

Btw, I have my Nanos in, I haven't spent time on the applying your mod yet. My first attempt gave me an error "GPU not found", when I ran the atiflash command with the parameters in your guide. I stopped there and will spend a longer weekend to do more reading. Any ideas? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1424132.msg14946664#msg14946664

I have a rom for a 390(reference "hard to find") and will share another one that's running on my nitro's as soon as possible!

Hi, Thanks much for your answer.
I completely uninstalled everything. Even with DDU.

However, the following still happens: When no monitor plugged in on the nano, then no data in gpu-z/afterburner is shown. Once plugged in, core/mem clock + temp immediately show up in gpu-z/afterburner.
Of course, with monitor the overclocking capabilities of the core from 800 to above 900 fails and the gpu crashes.
What am I missing here?
I am using the AsRock H81 Pro BTC as mainboard. Any wrong BIOS settings? I also put the gpu directly on the MB without riser. Same result.
Btw someone else had the same issue in this thread. But no result was posted.

Let me know if you have some more ideas.
Thank you!

If you want the Nano to run 900 MHz instead of 800 MHz "stock", you might have to increase the core voltage by 10 or 20 or even higher mV.

No problem.

What driver are you using?

i've got several rigs (6 gpu's though), all nano's, and none of them give me that issue.

I can easily open up gpu-z/afterburner to check/modify all the needed info.

As well as setting core clock to 1000 without any problems.

I have the same motherboard, i just use stock settings.

To be honest, i have no idea what's going on.

I use Crimson 16.1.1 on 95% of my rigs, i have a few that are running with 16.4.1, no issues at all.

So the only thing i can think of is the driver.

Oh, and on stock rom, you do not have this problem? I assume not.

Flash the modded rom to the first bios switch position. That is also something you can try.
No worries, you can always flash back (booting up in windows from the other switch position, when booted, switch it, flash it and it's back to the original).

If you want the Nano to run 900 MHz instead of 800 MHz "stock", you might have to increase the core voltage by 10 or 20 or even higher mV.
Could be true, but i kind of doubt it. But maybe..

Does that XFX rom have memory voltage mod? Not the memory controller mod. Do you use the offset?

Don't think i was talking about an XFX version Smiley

I have a "Reference" 390 modded rom, with vddc offset.

But no, my XFX Black dissipation does not have MVDDC offset, neither can it be added in the rom.

Btw, I have my Nanos in, I haven't spent time on the applying your mod yet. My first attempt gave me an error "GPU not found", when I ran the atiflash command with the parameters in your guide. Could you hook me up on IRC or something? So that we can work this out.

Shouldn't happen, those errors.

Or perhaps you've sorted it out already?

Let me know.

Hi lawrencelyl and Eliovp,

I did many tests today- but still the same issue. First of all, you are right, lawrencelyl, this situation is even there with the stock bios. So it's not a mod issue.

I've been running tests today by running it in win7,win8 and win10. all clean installs. driver left and right. I now doubt it's a driver issue.
When core clock increase, the system gets very unstable. As mentioned, nano crashes when I increase the core clock from 800 to 900. I even tried to increase the core clock by 50mV.

@lawrencelyl : Can you run the bios mod with monitor plugged in? What are your settings in afterburner and which mem clock mod are you running? Are you on XFX?

At the beginning I thought it's due to the monitor. Or could it be another issue?
Eliovp, would a snapshot of my stock bios somehow help you to see if we now have a fundamental difference? Let me know.
I'll run some more tests next week, but not many ideas left what to try...

Cheers,
Talan

I can only think of 2 things really. Or you've not disabled onboard vga in your bios settings. Or it's the driver(which i doubt as i tested several drivers..).

Cheers,
Talan

Hey Talan,

A dump of your rom wouldn't help. As it does not matter which one you use because they're all reference designs and my rom should work on any nano out there. (at the time of writing).

Again, i have a strong feeling that you guys haven't turned off the onboard vga. As that is the only way i have experienced this kind of issue in the past (afterburner and gpu-z not showing everything..)

As said before, i use 16.1.1 and 16.4.1 drivers on my nano rigs. They both work perfect, no monitor attached, everything works as it should.

The increasing of the core clock from 800 to 900 and it freezing is another story, that definitely shouldn't happen as i can raise my core clock to 1000 with an undervolt of -100mV VDDC without any problems at all.

That points out in your PSU failing for some reason, or the way you powered your risers or something.

Does your card freeze? Or does the complete system freezes and just reboots?
What exactly does it do?

Really sounds like a power problem.

You could do a register dump with AIDA64 (install it, click view, enable bottom toolbar, right click left bottom corner, video registers, ati/amd register dump "with 1 card attached to mobo") and show me that dump.
That'll explain some things as well.

In your motherboard BIOS, can you set the PCIE generation to be 1 or 2? For my MB, I set them to 1.

For my MSI motherboards i had to set them to GEN1 as well, or they wouldn't recognize all 6 cards.

For my Asrock H81 btc boards i did not have to do this, recognizes all 6  of them directly.

Greetings!

To be safe, if there is an option, I always set the PCIE generation to 1, that will make the system more stable.

I have the same issue as you with my Nano.  Even on stock Bios is the same.  I gave up troubleshooting so I just plug in monitor Tongue

I have no problem running this modded Bios except that I need to have monitor attached to show the core/mem/etc.  With monitor plugged in, I can clock to 1000MHz core without any issue.
By the way, I'm running with 2 Nano, one Sapphire, one XFX.  Right now my secondary monitor is plugged into XFX, while Sapphire without monitor.  I'm able to see both cards' core/mem/etc.
And I have onboard VGA enabled, plugged in to my first monitor.  I need a display, so I use my onboard VGA.  I didn't face this problem with Nvidia card though.
