There are a lot of people still doing straightsales, and ignoring valuable advise to use escrow.

I agree by the way crypto knight is going to scam people.

I agree by the way crypto knight is going to scam people.

Why? Because he didn't follow my suggestion to reveal his account?

I agree by the way crypto knight is going to scam people.

Why? Because he didn't follow my suggestion to reveal his account?

I asked him to escrow and he hasn't responded ever since even though he's been online times after that AND he re-posted his sales ad after that.. So if he was actually interested in selling (i was willing to buy) then he would have responded after I asked for escrow. and seeing most his sales are straight sales, may God help them.

I don't doubt that after this he might initiate a few escrow trades just to make people feel safe.

Note: few days have went by, its not like I'm talking about 'immediate response'.

User Child_Harold was most likely a paid operative of the bytecoin (BCN) scammers. Anyone who argued the case for BCN being a legitimate coin was always suspect

If it has been confirmed that Child_harold was a scammer (I hope not) then I really hope a decision has been by @iotatoken to reimburse the buyers before launch. CH seemed very trustworthy to me and was working closely with some hero members. I agree that escrow should have been used but with new technology comes a lot of new users with a low level of understanding. I also believe it would be immoral to let multiple buyers (10+) lose out on such an awesome opportunity just because one member decided to steal. This is not comparable to the DAO attack as it is pre-launch and @iotatoken can freeze the account of the so called thief and reimburse the buyers at no expense.

For me reimbursing the buyers would solidify the IOTA team as a legitimate company that counts some of its earliest investors as valuable contributors.

or even better Child_harold returns a hero from his vacation and follows through with the order..

@iotatoken do we have any answers?

Regards,

FT

I disagree. It was your fault not to use escrow. Although it was available and was recommended more than insistently by many users. Child_harold was never trusted. When he was drunk he posted nonsense and accused user and devs. The excuse "i am newbie" is not valid. Learn your lesson and stop whining.

thanks for your opinion but you are only saying this because you have not been effected by the theft. The lesson has now been learnt by many users but this does still not make it OK to steal, regardless of escrow or anything else. I do not see the harm in freezing the account and reimbursing the buyers that were effected. It would have nothing but a positive outcome for IOTA by building trust within the community.

I am not expecting @Iotatoken to be the police for future scammers but I do believe that it is their moral duty to fix this particular issue as it will be at no expense to do so in these early stages.

I'm asking @iotatoken directly to come up with a decision regarding this matter before launch for 2 reasons.

1. It will become harder to deal with once launch is complete
2. I will need to find more IOTA before Thursday !!

And you only say this because youve been silly enough to buy without escrow. No one vouched for child_harold, or did anything valuable with anyone in the Iota community, so stop blaming others.

You didnt care how buying without escrow could affect negatively the community.

Iota is software, and they cant go around seizing accounts, because someone was stupid enough to send him money for reselling.
You made a bad and stupid trade, assume it.

why would @iotatoken have to reimburse any of CH's buyers, if @iotatoken himself was not selling anything to those CH's buyers, in first place? i really don't understand this new concept Roll Eyes

edit: the first sign of alert of these scammers is that they entered the market dumping their endless iotas way below the market prices (1 btc could buy about the equivalent to 30 giga iotas before the scammers started dumping for half that price). this alone is very suspicious. being scammed is the price to pay for easy-cheap-way-too-advantageous deals.

...have not been effected by the theft.

You voluntairily sent btc to a complete strainger on the interweb, without using escrow (with multiple warnings from different members) and you are talking about theft? No you just gave him your money with nothing in return that's all. Stop demanding answers, accounts are annonimous, you can't freeze without being 100% sure it's childsharrolds. Even more, who says he actually had the iota he was selling?

Hey all

I'm selling 1 390 000 Mi (Mega IOTAs) at a rate of 1.39 Mi for 1 NXT.

So the whole chunk of 1390000 Mi would cost 1Million NXT

or, we could deal in smaller chunks.

Obviously, we'll trade through an escrow (preferably yassin54 or seccour) so we dont have to trust each other.

If anyone's interested, do get in touch!  Smiley

Still selling. Anyone interested, please get in touch Smiley

As I said, David/ Cbf, has to be 100% sure it is CH's account, which is impossible. Even if at one point the address of CH would have been known, who is to say that he didn't sell it? This buyer would have his account freezed because of people didn't use escrow? This would be unacceptable imo. Crypto is great because you are in controle of the whole spectrum of your funds, with all the pro's and cons attached to it.

The only way I see it what could be done is setting up a Fund and donate as a community, don't know if it would fly.

true, even if CH would mention a certain account as his, it could be fake and if you freeze it you hit someone completely innocent.

I don't know what the best solution is either, freezing the account may not be the answer. I hope CH logs in and say 'whats up man,I was just on holiday here are your IOTA' and proves us wrong otherwise there is someone out there that thinks it's acceptable to take peoples bitcoins and we are allowing them to get away with it..
I find this hard to accept because it would mean there are at least 12 other people at a loss before the launch. Im not demanding answers from @Iotatoken I just think there has been a lot of speculation based around this subject and the devs are the only ones that can fix it.

And the most active buyers happen to be fake or (sorry for being rude) idiots.

Even after we suspected CH to be a scammer people in here bought without escrow from CK. Just lol. /s
