Newbie question:

I understand, after ARDR main net launched the child chain transactions will require some sort of IGNIS fee for the transactions to be tied to the ARDR main chain. So, obviously there's some inherent value in IGNIS tokens as a kind of currency for the whole platform. But what's the inherent value of ARDR tokens then?

I understand, after ARDR main net launched the child chain transactions will require some sort of IGNIS fee for the transactions to be tied to the ARDR main chain.
Only the IGNIS child chain transactions will require IGNIS fees. Users of other child chains can pay in their own child chain token. The value of IGNIS lies in the fact that it will be the first and only decentralized child chain for a relatively long time, and so the idea is that it will establish itself as the "currency" of the NXT2.0 system - as the "Bitcoin competitor".

Everyone who owns tokens in a child chain is also a Ardor stakeholder - because it's the main chain and provides all the security.
So all users of the ecosystem would be wary that Ardor's security is the highest possible, and so nobody would sell ARDR for cheap.

Thanks for the clarification.

But I remember somewhere it was said that at least the owner of a child chain will need to provide some IGNIS to tie the child transactions to the main chain.

You're probably referring to "bundlers" - that are users that collect the fees of the child chain users and include child chain transactions in the ARDR main chain. These users must pay ARDR as fee, not IGNIS.

That should make ARDR tokens even more attractive. Thanks again.

Why are you in crypto investment in the first place? You know how volatile it is. If the situation was the other way .... 50 % higher do you still whine and complain?

It's the market not ARDOR, it's been a blood bath for all the top 100 and most of the crap as well. Get used to it, not the last time you will see this. The way to live with this volatility is to embrace it and make the right move at the right time and, learn to hold even if your asset is loosing money. Don't blame ARDOR, blame the whales, miners, and immature Bitcoin developers.

But what about IGNIS? What will make it valuable? Will it be just another coin on the market with no real advantage?

And another question: if I stake ardor, will I get child coins in the result of forging?

Do NXT holders in exchanges also get ignis?

I don't think so.

Wouldn't it be in the interest of the exchanges to support this and prevent massive withrawal?

They can but they don't have to.

Why take chances?

Let me show you the safe way:

Today.
Download and install the wallet from https://nxt.org/download

Create a new account, remember/write down your passphrase, don't forget it.

Withdraw ARDR from the exchange to your address, the one that starts with NXT- (can be found in the top left corner of the wallet, also called Account id).

Sync the blockchain to the end (can take a few hours depending on your hardware speed) and you will see your ARDR under Asset exchange.

In September.
Wait for Ardor platform launch in September, download the Ardor wallet when it becomes available and log in using the same passphrase.

Thanks! Will move my ARDR into the NXT wallet aswell, once I have security and safety issues figured out.

I have two apps on my android phone, "NXT" & "NXT mobile wallet"

I can log into NXT app by entering 4 digit pin, where I can see my balance and address, recieve and send funds

I can access NXT Mobile Wallet by entering the NXT address from "NXT" app. This doesn't make sense to me. Isn't it just a public address? Maybe I'm just stupid Grin

I cant remember the process of setting up my nxt wallet, or the passphrase (I could probably figure it out, if the passphrase is set by myself?), I guess I was a bit reckless when signing up.

Also what im worried about is, if something were to happen to my android device, which options do I have for getting back access to my nxt wallet?

advice.. anyone?
Thanks

In fact NXT/Ardor is a brainwallet, so if you have control on your passphrase  you will be able to access your NXT / Ardor account on  platform  installed on any device and  not only android. So keep it safe.

Yes, you can forge it, like NXT - however, you get only transaction fees as rewards, no "stake interest". Advantage: The currency's value is not diluted.

That's fine, because NXT and ARDOR are the same.
