A short Introduction to BURST's POC mining Burst uses a new algorithm for proof of hdd capacity (POC) mining. Miners pre-generate chunks of data known as 'plots' which are then saved to disk. The number of plots you store is effectively your mining speed. Every block the miner will skim through the saved plots, and come up with an amount of time until it is able to mine a block if another block hasn't yet been found. After reading through the plots is complete, your hardware can idle until the newest block. Burst uses a new algorithm for proof of hdd capacity (POC) mining. • NXT based • Proof of Stake Removed • Proof of Capacity implemented • No IPO • No Premine • 4 minute block time • 2,158,812,800 coins total • Block reward starts at 10,000/block • Block Reward Decreases at 5% each month Miners generate and cache chunks of data known as 'plots', which are divided into 4096 portions known as 'scoops'. Plots are generated by taking a public address and a nonce, then hashing it, pre-appending the resulting hash, repeating the hash-pre-append cycle many times, and then hashing the whole thing and xor'ing the last hash with the whole thing.
Plots are staggered together so chunks of the same scoop number are together, then written to disk. Each block has a generation signature which is derived only from the previous block's generation signature and miner, so it is difficult to manipulate.
When mining, the scoop number to be used for a block is derived from the generation signature and the block height, so the miner reads all relevant scoops (each plot will have 1 relevant scoop, and staggering allows for larger sequential read with less seeking). Only 0.024% of the stored data will need to be read each block.
The generation signature is hashed with each scoop. 8 bytes are taken from the hash, then divided by a scaling factor (inverse difficulty). The resulting number is a number of seconds. If that many seconds passes since the last block without a new one, the address/nonce combination used to generate that plot/scoop is eligible to announce a new block.
The miner's hardware can just sit idle until either that time or a new block. The address/nonce is included in the block as proof of eligibility, and the block is signed by that address.
Technically, this mining process can be mined POW-style, however mining it as intended will yield thousands of times the hashrate, and your hardware will sit idle most of the time. Continuously hashing until a block is found is unnecessary, as waiting long enough will cause any nonce to eventually become valid. @yellowduck2 Working title in the lab was "The New Burstcoin" - but it is more like a new chapter of a very very thick book. Userbase is growing exponentially these days and some of them are joining working on the code. Thanks for your support so long! An active community is even more important than updates updates updates.

Cheers to BURST and the great dev-team! I think we should really concentrat a little bit more on promotion and advertising, and i dont mean some little stuff once in a while posting a videos and some tweets... Im talking some serious campaign, tons of twitter activity, reposting, liking, using some real promotional Team with offical accounts, airdops on bitcointalkforum and twitter and so on, serious signature campaign here in the forum to spread some fomo, and better and active advertising/ trolling on polo for example... i guess also some new graphics and improved logos and stuff could help get the word out!

I've to agree. You do these amazing things over and over again, and sure, the price has gone up, but with a coordinated promotional effort, I think we could do way better. Twitter says I reach +30,000 ppl a month, but that's kinda tiny compared to all the press that ETH etc. gets on all the news sites.

Don't worry, there is plenty in store, we're having meetings to discuss the future, but I think you will all be pleasantly surprised by what starts to emerge from BURST. I really might say, now is the time to BUY. But this is just my opinion.

Due to the rapid expansion of miners for Burst, we've setup a third and fourth pool, and will be seeing up a fifth one shortly. The new pools are: http://pool.burstcoin.bizhttp://pool.burstcoin.euThe two new pools currently have the same deadline acceptance parameters as pool.burst-team.us, so are suitable for miners small or large. This may change in the future to make individual pools more aligned with particular sizes of miners. We're asking that you consider moving between the pools to help balance the load across the pools - too much capacity on one pool causes problems for everyone. As with my earlier announcement, some miners may receive double/triple payouts - moving pools will not affect this payout, and for those that asked - yes the payments are coming out of my wallet. Also, as per the earlier announcement, teething issues are possible, but I'll guarantee to cover any missed payments due to issues. H.
