Hard Fork June 20th; Codename: Sodium (5/8/2020)

Burst is soon to experience another milestone. A hard fork will be performed on approximately June 20th. Read the details in the link, spread the word. Big things are coming. Link - https://burstwiki.org/en/

Great BURST Introductory Video (7/26/2019)

The Burst Marketing Fund has created an awesome introductory video to Burst that you can see here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0yIOWe2i-Q Check it out, and help us spread the video and Burst awareness!

BURST BOUNTIES (Ongoing)

If you want to get yourself some Burst coins, head on over to the Burst Marketing Fund Team's Trello Board. There you can go over the list of opportunities to earn some Burst, and also post your own ideas and suggestions for new bounties.

WHAT IS BURST?

Burst is a cryptocurrency and an open-source decentralized blockchain platform that connects people, companies, and financial institutions. It allows you to move value – according to your own rules – within a scalable, green, and customizable ledger. It has multiple core-level features and has been running publicly since August of 2014.

Burst is a deflationary currency. The total number of coins that can ever be mined is capped at 2,158,812,800. The mining period for Burst will end in the 2033.

Video - Burst Introduction 7/26/2019
Video - Burst Introduction 12/28/2017

Burst was officially introduced on the 10th of August 2014 with a goal to solve the largest problems faced by other cryptocurrencies:

    • lack of decentralization
    • unsustainable waste of energy
    • unfair pre-mines and ICO releases
    • supremacy of corporate interests and large mining operations

Burst is the first cryptocurrency secured by the energy efficient Proof-of-Capacity algorithm (PoC). Bitcoin and many other “altcoins” use the unsustainable Proof-of-Work model that is widely regarded as a pending environmental disaster due to excessive energy usage. The Proof-of-Work model provides for network security by requiring computers to needlessly and repeatedly perform computationally intensive hashing functions in real time. As network difficulty increases over time, an arms race to remain competitive has emerged whereby Proof-of-Work miners employ ever more powerful processors, graphics cards, and expensive application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). The energy costs are astounding with electric usage devoted to Proof-of-Work estimated to be more than the total usage of some countries. The Bitcoin network's annual electricity usage alone is frequently sited as exceeding that of the country of Switzerland. Burst’s alternative Proof-of-Capacity algorithm provides equivalent security using regular computer resources and inexpensive hard drives to store and retrieve the results of hashing functions that have been pre-computed and are reusable in perpetuity.

    Decentralization

Burst addresses the centralist tendency problem plaguing other cryptocurrencies by further using an algorithm that is ASIC-proof. With no possibility for ASICs to replace regular everyday hardware as a minimum barrier to feasible entry, continued decentralization is assured.

    Energy-Efficient

Burst uses minimal computational resources beyond that required for initial setup. It is estimated that a Burst transaction uses several orders of magnitude less energy than that required to process a bitcoin transaction. This makes Burst eco-friendly and green. It can be mined using something as small as a Raspberry Pi.

    Fair Release

Burst was released with advance public notice, without premine, without airdrops, and without an ICO. All Burst in existence today has been mined beginning with the genesis block using the PoC algorithm.

    Equal Opportunity

Because there is no need to buy expensive specialized hardware, Burst is and will remain accessible to anyone who owns a personal computer. No matter how well funded an individual or organization, they cannot use expensive equipment to gain advantage over regular miners using regular computer equipment.

The Burst Project is a Team of Volunteers

Burst has a large number of individuals who have stepped up and donated time, skills, and money into the project. Below is a representation of those individuals, but far from including all of the people who have contributed.

Proof of Capacity (PoC) and Mining

What is Proof of Capacity (PoC)?

Proof of Capacity PoC (also called Proof of Space) is, in general, a mechanism to ensure that a party has dedicated a particular (significant) amount of storage space towards a specific goal. Burst uses PoC in the process of transaction verification for the validation and generation of blocks. Here, miners use a given amount of disk space to fill with plots. The more disk space is plotted, the higher the chances to generate (win) a block. PoC is thus in direct contrast to other consenus algorithms like Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS) where block generators need to proof the performance of some difficult computations or the ownership of a significant amount of currency, respectively.

    Advtantages of PoC

In contrast to PoW, PoC is considered to be more eco friendly. While PoW requires expensive computations each time a block is generated, PoC puts most of the required computational costs up-front in the plotting process. Reading the plots in order to proof the designated disk space investment is much cheaper. Additionaly, users can mine using their existing hardware, instead of having to to invest in special purpose hardware like e.g. ASICS for Bitcoin mining.

In contrast to PoS, PoC allows a fairer distribution of coins as they are generated over time and assigned to active miners. In a PoS coin like NXT, the number of coins is fixed from the beginning and has to be distributed somehow initially. This leads to an unequal distribution of wealth to a few selected early adopters, e.g. via airdrops.

        I've updated the Win Client...

... ah, and this BurstDevTeam Account and this Thread is legit.

@yellowduck2 Working title in the lab was "The New Burstcoin" - but it is more like a new chapter of a very very thick book. Smiley

Userbase is growing exponentially these days and some of them are joining working on the code. Thanks for your support so long! An active community is even more important than updates updates updates.

Cheers to BURST and the great dev-team!
I think we should really concentrat  a little bit more on promotion and advertising, and i dont mean some little stuff once in a while posting a videos and some tweets...
Im talking some serious campaign, tons of twitter activity, reposting, liking, using some real promotional Team with offical accounts, airdops on bitcointalkforum and twitter and so on,
serious signature campaign here in the forum to spread some fomo, and better and active advertising/ trolling on polo for example...
i guess also some new graphics and improved logos and stuff could help

        get the word out!  Wink

I've to agree. You do these amazing things over and over again, and sure, the price has gone up, but with a coordinated promotional effort, I think we could do way better. Twitter says I reach +30,000 ppl a month, but that's kinda tiny compared to all the press that ETH etc. gets on all the news sites.

Don't worry, there is plenty in store, we're having meetings to discuss the future, but I think you will all be pleasantly surprised by what starts to emerge from BURST.

I really might say, now is the time to BUY. But this is just my opinion. Wink

Due to the rapid expansion of miners for Burst, we've setup a third and fourth pool, and will be seeing up a fifth one shortly. The new pools are:

        http://pool.burstcoin.biz
        http://pool.burstcoin.eu

The two new pools currently have the same deadline acceptance parameters as pool.burst-team.us, so are suitable for miners small or large. This may change in the future to make individual pools more aligned with particular sizes of miners.

We're asking that you consider moving between the pools to help balance the load across the pools - too much capacity on one pool causes problems for everyone.

As with my earlier announcement, some miners may receive double/triple payouts - moving pools will not affect this payout, and for those that asked - yes the payments are coming out of my wallet.

Also, as per the earlier announcement, teething issues are possible, but I'll guarantee to cover any missed payments due to issues.

        H.

Sure, we can add that for you. It must have been missed, there are a few other pools that need added as well, at least on one of the OPs. I'll make sure this is done for you. Thanks!
