I've been studying the GFC since before it was called 'GFC,' and had 25 years as a political theorist/activist under my belt when I started.

We face peak oil, peak soil, peak water, peak people; debt; climate change (!?), whether it's us or not; militarism/authoritarianism, 'social incohesion'; debt; unemployment driven by robotics, insuperable political corruption, the return of theocracy; debt; an epidemic of obesity, ADHD, psychosis, depression, OCD, autism -- and did I mention debt?

The time frame has tricked me: much slower than I expected. But the 'quality' of our situation?

Ever heard of these guys: 'Roman Empire?' 'British Empire'? 'Ottoman Empire'? 'Holy Roman Empire'? This sucker is going down.

Remember the 'Asian economic crisis' of the late 90's? In Indonesia, I know, it never ended.

I spent 23 months in Jakarta, as a conflict journalist, during the insurrection, and the parallels between events there and here are striking:

people seem fabulously able to not see The Big Picture, and to do nothing, until some straw breaks the camel's back, and they go collectively stark raving mad.

tl;dr: if not this month, next; if not this year, next; if not . . .

It has long been thought that a cashless society was one of the prime objectives of the New World Order. If only because it gives the authorities greater scope for surveillance and control.
Without cash transactions the ability to acquire essential items is restricted to those who have bank accounts. So a bank account becomes indispensable in modern society — thereby enabling the authorities to monitor each individual’s transactions and, to some extent, their movements too.

Washington is behind India’s brutal experiment of abolishing most cash

yes religiosity, but on the ball.

'Tin-Foil-Hat Terry is spot on: governments are using the unimportant link between cryptos and terrorism to implement financial controls in desperate attempts to shore up a failing economic model.'

'Kay. Let's here everyone's take on this! Mine is:

the further Bitcoin drops, the more Bitcoin I'll get for my fiat in the mean time. The last time the Chinese authorities pulled this stunt, knowledge of and interest in Bitcoin was relatively small. At this point, the ball is rolling -- India, Venezuela, Nigeria, the Eurozone, etc. etc. -- so recovery will be easy peasy.

Komodo is working towards setting up the first decentralized exchange that uses atomic swaps and has liquidity provided by special nodes that are linked to api of centralized exchanges.

This is something that's badly needed in crypto community.  There are a few other decentralized exchanges, but the problem is they usually don't have any liquidity.

EDIT:
'we are talking about Chinese bubble blowers: a legendary class of momentum chasers who will take any trend far beyond the level of max pain before allowing it to burst in a spectacular supernova of selling, in which the slowest sellers end up suicidal, either literally and metaphorically, before moving on to the next pre-bubble asset.'

"The PBoC sought to restrict how the exchanges could seek to acquire potential new users, with the central bank indicating that the startups aren't able to mention the depreciation of the yuan in connection with marketing or otherwise promote their services offline.

Some of the involved exchanges were said to have cancelled planned activities that would have potentially utilized such a strategy."

Now, you tell me, guys, if this sounds like rhetoric: the Chinese presently create about $US 1,000 B. in debt per month. That's $US 12,000,000,000,000.00 per annum. Lil ol' Bitcoin poked its nose up to $US 20 B.

And this caused the Chinese to forbid linking Bitcoin trading to Yuan devaluation? That is, do the Chinese really see Bitcoin (cryptos . . . ) as such a threat? It seems so!

Which is great news. That's my point: we're the dragon slayer!! Okay, it'll mean more clumsy swipes at us; but this -- and Venezuela and India and Pakistan -- shows that the authorities clearly think cryptos have as much potential as we think they have.

EDIT: But I missed this: ' . . . and to refrain from using automated trading bots to boost volume . . . '

Theoretical discussion today, and we wanna go on record:

there is no validity whatsoever to the assumption that a coin's rarity alone ensures its survival, and doubly so in the case of a lack of development programme.

I think rarity helps.
More critical:

Market placement (ie exchange listings).
Volume and capital growth are nice too.

More my focus is how far down the stage line is it.  I like watching coins that have hit the 'sustain phase' and still have a pulse.  (Very few have survived, none are thriving).

The 'market' is still enamored with high inflation coins.

Last, there's a difference between 'coins' and 'projects'.

Projects need ROI, revenue, devs, and developments.

Coins need self sustaining decentralized communities.  A random collective that can keep the lights on and the markets trading.

Thanks for these thoughts, B.N.
