LOL this topic is full of bullshit and the topic name is misleading! Sure we know there are more and more need for KYC/MLA, and that they prolly had complied to some security in some countries, I bet USA
But if we wana trade on exchange we know this is gona happen sooner then latter, no one forcing anyone to use legitimate exchange, so far BTC-e is still grey zone
But don`t act stupid like we did not know or did not expect
BTC-e will also lock your account on 1+ year of inactivity and will ask for proff that you are the owner, every exchange will do the same!

never had a problem with them myself, but I only trade really small amounts. I gotta say I do have a slightly funny feeling about the place now. they must have so much money washing around on there that something's gonna happen eventually.

OP, I have the same thing happen to me except that unlike you I did not see it as a problem. All I did was verify my ID and my home address to show them who I really was. Every withdraw I had with Poloniex went smoothly without any problems at all. You should have more patience when dealing with them and avoid soiling the reputation of the exchange that is holding your money. It will only work against you and your interests.

Verify your account if you want to trade there or fuck off to another exchange. It's very simple. The rest of your post is full of shit like the Coinbase hate on /r/Bitcoin by people who do not want to verify their accounts... but still want to trade on Coinbase!
Dude what is the idea of owning crypto currency and why are people shifting to private and secure crypto currencies because the whole idea is to be anonymous, if all the exchanges started collecting all these information what will be the plight, they will have a database on who all are owning what all accounts. Very good feature OP,it is a possibility that the team running poloniex could be running those two darknet sites.

Why is it a problem to warn users about the reality that is going on ?
Its OK, but we all know in what world we live, do we not? can we pretend to have exchanges that deal with $$ and banks and at the end they do not ask for our name and later force us to go over verification process sure we can have some grey zone exchange which do not deal with $$ nor banks, but that exchange never can get bitcoin to mainstream nor provide bitcoin inflow of cash, which is needed for 98% of ppl and then there is BTC-e i hope they manage to float as they have, but can anyone garantee it

Does Poloniex allow people from all countries to trade on their site because coinbase has a limited number of countries that can trade on their site.

they do as far as I know. the only people with problems are those in American states with unfavourable regulation like new York and more recently new Hampshire.

If a company want to get a proof of identity and address then it is not bad but locking someone bitcoins is not good. from a longer time some other payment processors also want the verification but they do not lock the money of their users but allow them to transact within the processor. they only restrict withdrawal to banks etc.
