Just the idea that someone would risk jail time for a payment system is kind of looney. If the government said you would get five years in a federal prison (no parole) would you risk using PayPal?

Let me rephrase it a bit. If you are holding Bitcoins worth some $25 million, will you continue to use them if there is a 0.001% chance of imprisonment? Or are you going to dump them and forget about what happened?

People does risks to go jail with dark marketplaces transactions, drugs and guns, but they take the risks doing those with fiat, and now with crypto coins as well. Im father and i need to give example for the kids, and go jail isnt part of those for sure, soo i would hide my ip under some service and continue using bitcoin.

I don't think that I will continue to use bitcoins if its declared illegal by Government as it may put me in risk and if I got caught using it then they might think that I am involved into illegal activities and may start treating me as a criminal so in that case I will prefer to stop using bitcoins.

If Bitcoin was made illegal by your government and the punishment was very bad, would you still use it, would you still openly support it?

What kind of a question is this? Bitcoin will flourish even if more and more regulations were set up to attempt to stop or limit its use. Who cares if you cannot use it "legally", the technology is very good for circumventing laws. A good example of this is the darknet market places. Bitcoin's growth depends on the darknet's growth.

ApplePay? M-Pesa? Google Wallet? WePay? Braintree? Skrill? I understand they are different from Bitcoin but they are still just value transfer systems.

You're all making Bitcoin sound more like a sinister cult than a Peer-To-Peer Electronic Cash System.
I think the problem is a lot of outsiders view it as a sinister cult. Many uninformed people still think of it as what people use to buy drugs on the internet.

I chose "not sure"
I'm really not sure about it because it depends on the reason why my government will say that Bitcoin is illegal. Besides, Bitcoin can be use anonymously. I think will decide once the government will make a law regarding Bitcoin.

Exactly, But still this is not impossible yet this idea is too imaginative as well. If we are going to really think of what is currently hapenning right now then this idea really do sounds like a sinister cult

Practically, I would quit gambling, no second thought on that, not because it is illegal but because government is going to punish you, imagine if your important rights have been removed by the government because you where jailed. So, I'd rather stop using bitcoin than compromising my life in prison.

Maybe no, because i dont want to go in jail. Since the government knows that bitcoin is illegal then i will find some other cryptocurrency that will be exchange for bitcoin. But for now, i think bitcoin is not to be illegal because as far as i know, many users uses bitcoin and do some transactions for it.

I think I would still use it. By banning it, I think they just don't want to change at all. They don't want to be improved in any aspect. The government would be left out in the technology advancements.

How could bitcoin make your daily processes easy if it is going to be banned by the government? I think that's not the OP means... If government would ban bitcoin, I think we will have difficulty in transaction, most of our moves should be carefully planned so I think that would just slow down the way we earn and risky too, so by that, I think it's time to quit bitcoin if it is going to be banned by the government...  Smiley

it work before so for sure even its been banned it will still exist and more value will it takes like drugs when supply has been decrease the value rises up for sure if bitcoin got banned in most country we can still find ways like direct wallet to wallet transaction and there still someone will take chance to exchange it in our own currency.

This an idea, and it wasn't getting a chance at this time.
However, We must have thought at that if that was going to happen.
Still feeling comfort with the bitcoin, Although it was imagining by others that so terrible.

I don't use much VPN now for the reason that it only causes my connection to slow down. I am worry free because there is no law that prohibits to use bitcoin here in our country. Maybe others consider bitcoin as illegal because it is use to purchase in the black market like drugs and weapons.

this is an interesting question in my opinion and there are a bunch of interesting replies but i think it comes down to how hard will be banned or made illegal.

and as someone who lives in a country that still has no rule about bitcoin and there has only been talk about it i fear these things but i guess i will continue holding some in my cold storage in any case but reduce my usage.

I would keep using it  Cool
But I would secure my connection with Tor, so that I'm safe from government tracking.

Also i would file a petition to remove such law. All users of Bitcoin will be encouraged to support it.
And it would be called the Bitcoin Movement. Grin

However, I'm sure such law cannot be introduced in my country. A senior official in our country said that they have no plans to regulate Bitcoin.
