BTW, how would I set up CPU mining for this? I tried ufasoft but the is no option for Bytecoin. cpuminer won't even start on my computer (windows 7).

Try jgarzik's cpu-miner, it seemed to be working on my thinkpad.

Gerco is kindly hosting a BTE p2pool you can join if you don't have the hash power to solo mine.

Download GUIminer - http://guiminer.org/

Pool address: radon.gdries.nl
Port: 6327
Username: your BTE payout address
Password: 1

Cpu config

Gpu Config

Find out and play around with the settings, extra flags or try out other miners to see what results you get.

No, no it's not...   What exactly is interesting about it, or were you just typing any old thing to get someone to send you some pointlessness Smiley

Very interesting altcoin, watching.

Well, strictly speaking nothing makes it interesting, as it is a straightforward clone of bitcoin with zero improvements or additions.

A huge difference is the block reward. You get 50 BTE vs 25 BTC

I think you're stupid.

Bitcoin started with a block reward of 50 BTC.

plus, the block reward does not matter, 500 BTE would mean each BTE is only worth 1/10 as much.

No need to be so rude. I mean for my 18 yr old son who just hear about mining, realizes its almost impossible for him. He has a Gaming alienware laptop, bytecoin.

There is a need when someone is commenting when they don't even know basic economics.

Right now the difficulty is artificially low due to the 4x diff increase cap, but the block reward doesn't matter at all. The only thing that matters is the curve, and how much total coins will be mined.

I can make a coin where the block reward is 50 million multicoins, with a total money supply of 50 trillion. Would your 18 year old son mine that?

One interesting point could be testing bitcoin stability when too many hashpower appears to mine at low difficulty. (Could happen when asics really arrives.)

Bitcoin already has a testnet.

It doesn't really mean anything, because the biggest deployment so far is going to be ASICMINER's 200TH next next deployment, which will increase the network hashrate by less than 4x (which is the current cap on diff adjustment)
