The pool is almost ready  Smiley. Anyone volunteer to beta test it? If interested, please PM me. Thanks.

Seems I won't buy BTE while price is low, so I have to mine by myself. I'm in. Post here pool info plz.

This is probably unrelated, but it is worth being extra cautious: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=165497.0  I always build altcoins from source after auditing the diffs from bitcoin.
There wasn't much difference in the source code with ByteCoin. I don't think it's related through, I've analyzed it and it doesn't try to access Bitcoin's wallet.dat.

Also, when OP has 70 posts and says he never uses the wallet I have to wonder:

1. Is he telling the truth or attempting to scare people away from BTE?
2. If he is telling the truth and has little experience with the bitcoin client, who knows, maybe he did something wrong & doesn't realize it.

To answer that it was my inexperience with the regular Bitcoin wallet. I had been using Blockchain.info and wanted to diversify where they were held. I had just moved BTC to the wallet a couple days before and was going to transfer it over to an offline computer but got in such a rush to install the Bytecoin while mining was easy I was just careless too. I suspected mining more that the client but did wonder if other people had gotten ripped off that day since it was the only thing I had done on the computer that day.

Can anyone address the seeming non-sequitur in the post topic? How is Bytecoin proof that Maria 2.0 was banned?

Bytecoin isn't the proof, and that should really be read as:

"Maria 2.0 was banned (he/she can't post this him/herself). Here is the proof he/she is the oldest miner on these forums (because he/she can't post it him/herself). Also, now announcing Bytecoin!"

Ah, thank you for translating.

Can you also explain how a random tx and address proves that Maria 2.0 is the oldest forum member?

If you follow the wallet back to it's earliest tx's I think it's pretty much the second wallet to appear on the network someone else said...

Ok. How does that prove anything about a how long forum member has been posting?

It doesn't.  At all Cheesy

Actually it does.

...proves that Maria owns the ECDSA key behind 1gc9ofUh56DdTY9AWDCXgBrjCRSFRYuh3, which was seen on the network on April 2009, proving she is a very, very early Bitcoin user.

The argument isn't that he/she's been posting on the forums longer than anyone else, the argument is that he/she has been mining BTC for longer than anyone else on the forum (which is most likely true)...

Now the argument that remains is: IS Maria 2.0 (who uses the photo of an indian celebrity for his/her profile picture) REALLY a woman as he/she so claims to be...?

That doesn't make her the "oldest miner on the forums".  It just means that she now owns the address.

It is a lot more likely that she is the legit owner of the wallet, than she hacked the wallet of one of the first 2 or 3 Bitcoin miners. (In April 2009, the network hashrate was 5 Mhash/s - a single CPU is this fast!)

It is a lot more likely that she is the legit owner of the wallet, than she hacked the wallet of one of the first 2 or 3 Bitcoin miners.

It's not proof, though. The address was spent a couple of years ago. I can't tell if there are other addresses associated with it (%taint at blockchain.info shows nothing, which is odd and unlikely)

It's unlikely that if the wallet itself had no coins in it, it could be purchased for a purpose exactly like this? If I wanted to establish a fake history for some reason, I'd give that a try.

I'm not saying this has been done, mind you, just that there are other possibilities. The message is not proof.

You did not seem to understand that she cryptographically signed the message ("how a random tx and address proves that Maria 2.0...") so I explained it.
Sure, one can come up with all sorts of crazy explanations, but in terms of crypto proof, it is the best you can get.

I didn't read the OP, just the topic. I was being lazy. Sorry about that. All I meant was that it proves current ownership of the address, but not ownership in Jan 2009. If there was some message sent in binary satoshi which claimed ownership for maria, that would be the strong proof I'd accept.

Anyway, lets see if it's possible -  anyone want to sell me an empty btc wallet which mined a block in January 2009? I'll pay US$100 in btc.

...Satoshi???

That's quite a leap, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility... If Maria IS Satoshi then I'm pretty disappointed...

The message/hash/post is to prove that no bytecoins were mined before that post on the 1st of April.
