It's really great to see that the number of Reddit followers have doubled. In fact! It is more than Icn which was launch before golem.

The first milestone for Golem is the Brass Golem, in which there will be a integration with Blender rendering, so 3D artists can buy computing power to render their work. But in the end i think it's Golem's goal so that basically anyone can buy and sell their computing resources for any use. That is actually a very cool idea. 3D rendering surely takes alot of computing power. And 3D art is not the only area where 3D rendering is needed. Let us think about the 3D models in healthcare and science. With this technology, doctors could create detailed 3D models and in parallel send it to other experts for examinations.

Yes, alpha was released month ago, it is working well. Thanks Tommy, can you give me a link to test the alpha? I used the site but I can not connect to the golem network with the ips informed.

Is there any idea who or how will use Golem supercomputer's computing power? Will it be a "general" supercomputer or will it have niche or niches? Providing supercomputing power is nice, but I think most niches could use some application examples or design-pattern, at least.
I think it's at least CPU first, probably both, but i don't have definitive info on that. The first milestone for Golem is the Brass Golem, in which there will be a integration with Blender rendering, so 3D artists can buy computing power to render their work. But in the end i think it's Golem's goal so that basically anyone can buy and sell their computing resources for any use. Going to be CPU and/or GPU capacity? Yeah, it's really interesting to see which fields will be adopting Golem for actual usage.

This project could be pretty awesome it's cool to be here in the beginning. Could even potentially be used for cloud gaming in the future also once the networking is more figured out.

Yes, alpha was released month ago, it is working well. Great! I installed it to give it a go. Dead in the water. Can't connect to any networks and I forwarded some ports from my router to the machine, still nothing.

There seems to be multiple daily updates to the source code, they are rapidly developing golem. Try compiling from source, instructions seems to be on the github wiki.

I was also thinking it would be great if we had a Virtual Machine image of golem. that would be easy to deploy around datacenters and on your own machine. for example one single OVF file, just boot and run.

Those are always from one sided view coming from Elastic. but there are many issues that are going to be addressed in future releases, there is a public roadmap for Golem... Well, the list was prepared by Elastic but it can be used as a starting point for further research. On another note, I really wonder how Golem team is going to address verification of the output for rendering jobs. Reputation system isn't something that can be fully trusted. The main problem is that in order to verify the final image (or frame), it needs to be fully rendered by requester, or some other worker. Any partial results will simply not work in this case, and additional full renders will be huge overhead for the system. [EDIT: Golem actually says "Such reputation systems are vulnerable to numerous attacks. There is the famous sybil attack, where the attacker creates a large number of identities and fakes those scores via a large influence on the network. There is also the re-entry attack, where the attacker starts fresh with a “neutral” reputation by abandoning the old identity. So far, we are aware of no system resilient to all attacks. Reputation systems in decentralized applications remain an open problem. Golem’s reputation system too is still a subject of research, and we plan to cooperate with the best teams in the field to come up with the best solutions." https://blog.golemproject.net/the-challenges-ahead-933f040cba95]
