I have done few analysis before about zcash when it was hyping over 2 bitcoin per coin, looked at how reward gonna increase with time rather than getting decreased. Enough for me to understand that demand may get lower when there will be much more supply, and exactly now price is falling apart. Saved myself from getting fooled by the huge price hype.

CPU-mined currencies have been mined largely by botnets especially for a high-priced coins. We have seen this already with Monero. ZCash will also suffer from same unless GPU-mining surpasses CPU-mining.

It is possible that 50% or more of the hashing power of the ZCash is from the CPU, some of them are from botnets.

I will tell you why. Mainly because these 2 reasons:

1. Because it is overhyped altcoin and like 99% of others altcoins after initial phase of euphoria upon release price will gain downward momentum.
2. Secondly - because this is the design of that coin. Coin is different than bitcoin - it doesn't favors early adopters at all. Block reward will be higher with time = price will go lower.
3. Not confirmed reason. Because people found a way to exploit design of this coin (no ASIC mining) and now are using botnet.

This has become one of the most hyped -- if not really the most one -- cryptocurrency I ever known. Consequently, the prices go up and go down terribly at the same time. I am sure many investors got their money back many times but also many got burned especially the small and sometimes clueless investors. However, I do hope that soon Zcash can be another stable, strong and growing altcoin as part of a good mix for investment purposes.

Another important thing is that ZEC might drop even more in the future and what would you do then with all of your mined coins? I don't understand what's the news drive the price of zcash right now. But the current situation the price of zcash is always down and i think we will see it back to the $30 asap.

Myself, I hope it does go to $30 and even lower for the near future. It is still too early in its life-cycle to make and maintain any significant price rise. Except for a brief launch high, Ethereum traded under $1 for the first several months before starting to climb. Bitcoin traded for years under $1, and for only a few pennies at first.

I believe we have at least until the fall before we see any big moves up, and maybe even into early 2018. This is still the very early accumulation phase and the only reason it is considered gloom and doom now was the crazy high launch prices. That those prices were absurdly high should have been obviously to anyone and I think even today's ~$40 price is a bit high for where it is at developmentally.

Actually, I think it could be the other way round. As more and more Zcash is generated, it will be sold in the exchanges. The miners would only look at monetizing the Zcash generated. Right now, the number of Zcash available is low and that is supporting the price. Once more Zcash comes in, the price could go down slowly.

My understanding was that the keys were only needed to initiate the process and were then supposed to have been destroyed. They were created by six different people, including Peter Todd, a BTC dev who had a skeptical attitude towards Zcash (but was willing to participate when asked by the Zcash team, as it helps to have such an outsider as one of the six.)

There's no way to utterly disprove the idea that someone pulled some stunt with the keys at some point at the point of launch, but the publicized process for creating the keys and deploying them sounded pretty robust and appropriately paranoid.

If anyone has more concrete info I appreciate correction, I'm just going by what I recall from 5-6 months ago.

Slushpool is adding Zcash mining! That's pretty significant news, as they are the oldest mining pool and this is the first time they've added another crypto besides bitcoin (and merged mining).
