Listen, I'll just have to tell you what I have in mind: I like what JD did - shut down BTC and started their own coin. But I don't think this solved the main problem IMO - whoever admins the site still is responsible for the coins, for the server security, for software etc. If you want to do it right, it's a 24/7 job with alerts waking you up in the middle of night. That's how it is if you want to run a reliable site. It gets better over time as you code matures, you solve most of daily maintenance issues etc.

I am thinking about starting a new blockchain with stakeable coins, but at the same time offering investor and player roles similar to dice sites. In addition to staking you could put your coins in the "bankroll". Players on the other hand could issue transactions similar to "bets" that would win or lose, based on verifiable distributed random number generation.

- The game itself would be a part of the blockchain protocol, so there would be no need to keep data centralized.
- The investors would always have control over their coins (no need to deposit them to any site).
- Investors would gain from both staking and providing coins for the bankroll (with game volatility involved).
- The game would be provably fair for both players AND investors (!!!).
- The blockchain would be fully distributed, no central storage or site. Ideally it would not be "owned" by anyone either.
- For the chain to be attractive I believe some social aspects should be implemented too - user accounts, chat, avatars etc.

It's still an early idea. If we decide to follow it, there will be numerous challenges, but hey, it could be really fun!

It's still to early to talk about ICO, but the idea keeps evolving in my mind and I have started exploring some technical aspects already.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Ethan

Which coins could be invested in that case?

I remember when Just Dice changed to CLAMS. I was stupid enough to exchange BTC for CLAMS to be able to stay invested. Even if I made some CLAMS, they depreciated so fast that it was one of my worst crypto investments ever.

Investing LTC in Yolodice has been quite bad in part also because of the same issue, LTC depreciating against BTC. So if you can do this using BTC, or at least something like WBTC (if that makes it easier to implement), it would be great.

Yeah, the problem is that I bought those CLAMS high. I don't remember the exact numbers but I lost like 70% even considering casino profits. And well, it could have been worse as it has kept on dropping.

Just hoping once you and your team running your own ICO, it will be worthy on the future. 2 gambling popular gambling site ever had running their ICO (Betking and Bitdice) but unfortunately their investors suffered huge loss after bought/invested on their ICO (no offense) until now, more worse is betking.
Second on this one , Freebitco.in is gaving their Fun token , and some others that i forgot to mention .

I believe that having ICO is one fun thing that the team of YoloDice will surely enjoy, and also this means that there will no farewell party at all but instead they will just have a New venture in this community .

That sounds much better.

It is sad to say good bye to Yolodice. Although I'm not really active playing here since few years back but at least I have a great experience at Yolodice especially when it comes to contest as I won good amount from the past contest. I hope ethan will come back with new bigger project in the future.
Same here , i am not an active Player of YoloDice but i am proud to say that this is the first Dice game/Site that i Played when i learned Crypto gambling
, I registered my account back when they are just newly promoted here . because i am not a dice player those time and i only Plays Poker and Blackjack back in the time.
Now that Yolo is coming to end , I think the legacy will remain to all of us who once played in their legit and trust worthy site.
Very few crypto gambling sites were popular for Dice. Yolodice is good and the increased price of bitcoin had made the team take a decision to shut the website. As of now, more other cryptocurrencies were available with reduced transaction fee. Maybe they might've experienced some pressure from the government. Anyhow it is the teams decision, and let them flourish in the upcoming projects.
well that's what we only Have now to hope for them about the future project to come because i believe that the team will not totally leave the crypto community just like that.

It's just happen that new venture must come because business specially gambling tend not to stay forever but to have some changes.

Lets admit that Dice Nowadays is not that popular gambling activities because there are many games that offers more fun and also excitement .

Listen, I'll just have to tell you what I have in mind: I like what JD did - shut down BTC and started their own coin.

To be clear we didn't start our own coin, we just switched to a coin with a very small market cap.

The point was to massively reduce the value of the bankroll that we had to be responsible for, to make the site closer to a "play money" site than a high-stakes Bitcoin place. It worked well for the most part but some people seemed to think that CLAM (the altcoin we switched to) was a good investment *because* Just-Dice was using it. It wasn't...

Honestly casino investment as a regular person has always been a bit of a difficult thing to do, not just in just-dice or yolodice but definitely something that is difficult to handle for a regular person because those ups and downs are double down as well. You make money when bitcoin goes up, and also make money when someone loses money, you lose money when bitcoin goes down but you also lose when someone wins, so it is a double feature and while everyone wins or loses depending on what bitcoin does, you win or lose with other people gambling on top of what bitcoin does.

This is why I believe we are in a difficult situation for a regular person to handle and I do not think that people could handle that kind of loss that easily. Ethan of course cut all of that and just closing it, that way we do not have to worry about any of this anyway.

Cheers,

Given your current track record I'd be definitely interested in investing in something like that! If you are able to find the right way to do it (forgetting to be yet another ICO) you can definitely succeed.
You don't want to keep BTC? Fine but keep some existing coins (maybe give some thought to LN) and if you are to create your own coin do some thorough research about which platform suits you most (Binance chain could be promising)

as i said in one of my earlier posts, running the site with only (stakeable?) altcoins might be the best chance to keep the community alive. also your other ideas sound quite fun. i guess going this path will be successful, take your time and do not rush it.

What do you mean by they have tried for 4 years? IMO they successfully introduced Yolodice to us from scratch, you know before it, we never heard or know about Yolodice. Yolodice is popular because they have speed betting which faster than other gambling site. Doesn't matter which site you will continue as long as it's legit as Yolodice

It is just ethical for them to release out those funds before they go rather than on holding those and scamming the amounts which would really be a big problem
or wouldnt really be appealing to the masses specially to the players and to the entire community. They wont really be ruining on the reputation that they had built for years
so its just expected to do the right thing.

That's a normal thing for a company to announce its closure. Because they have users that have huge funds stored not only on their balances and also for their investor's sake. See you again yolodice if you come back.

The truth is yolodice team have tried after running the site for four year they are still able to come out to inform users and giving time for fund to be withdraw
That's a normal thing for a company to announce its closure. Because they have users that have huge funds stored not only on their balances and also for their investor's sake. See you again yolodice if you come back.

this is what every gambling site should do before they totally disappear from the community. let their players do their final business affairs and give them enough time to get their money back. unfortunately, only few gambling sites can do the same.
so in case, yolo team will come back to the gambling community and present a new project, they are very much welcome because they exited in good terms. they are leaving good reputation to the community and that i think is one of their legacy in this dice community.

it is their obligation and nothing to tackle about that , and besides YoloDice have proven themselves for being one of the most trusted gambling site in crypto History and they want to preserve that and I'm sure they have still plan in the future so Running with the funds of people is not that good idea and won't help them for the future plans.

I will continue to use bustadice to play from now going forward.
But about this ? you seems like Shilling for your Own Company since you are wearing their banner and that is not a good attitude HiJacking the other ANN Thread for your own promotion , Why not post in your Own ANN here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2219681.0

And Pay respect as the Team and users here have their own issue to solve for now.

We might see Yolodice to be back considering that Ethan is looking exploring other options or atleast have started to think about it. Which means some or others they would be brainstorming on it and later on they have to execute it. So, staying positive with the last message from Ethan that it is not a permanent break, but just temporarily suspended.
