it seems it did not take long before that bitcoin overcome paypal. after bitcoin present, many loyal paypal users switch to bitcoin, including me. 5 years from now, it looks like paypal will cease operations. good bye paypal.

That's not true, how will people would switch to bitcoin when merchants are the ones putting it in their site that they accept paypal. We have to admit it that every website when we are about to check out the choices are only paypal or credit card which are common. I only see few online shops that accept bitcoin, and most of them are just selling digital good and not the stuffs we need in real life.  Smiley

Its going to take sometime but It definitely will. PayPal have over 188 million users at the moment , each day thousands of accounts are being limited for stupid reasons and people have the possibility to switch to something more convenient where their money is safe , that would be bitcoin. If PayPal continue being crappy with their customers and don't really care then It could be on our favor.

It can. Imagine having a lot of dollars with just one bitcoin. Plus Paypal eats a lot of transaction fees. With just a little to send they charge like 10 percent of what you will send. Anyone who is looking for another option than Paypal should go here.
I think Paypal is feeling that now.

That is an easy yes. Bitcoin has the potential to replace PayPal completely. After all Bitcoin, is a digitalized currency like PayPal. However, to achieve this, we need more shopping sites accepting Bitcoin. At the moment we see that many people covert Bitcoin to PayPal to pay for online products. This needs to change.
We have purse.io that allows to buy anything out of amazon with bitcoin with a discount and since amazon has a gigantic amount of products then we are covered there what we need is a variant of purse.io that allow us to buy almost anything when it comes to digital products.

There is a big chance that bitcoin going to replace paypal in the future, once the user know the benefit, I think most of the user will do transaction using bitcoin, making wallet address is easier than set up paypal account which need a lot of verification, so it become easier and more convenient to used bitcoin rather paypal

Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years?

We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal.

Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired.  Grin

It will someday. When bitcoin become more popular, i'm sure bitcoin will overcome paypal to be the most popular online currency. The problem is there are still many people that don't know about bitcoin and how it works. That is our job to introduce and motivate other people to use bitcoin.

Most likely it will overcome PayPal but we need some patience for it, it will take some time before everything will be accepted in shops namely the bitcoin of course but more cryptocurrency's will follow.

Why would someone want Bitcoin to become paypal.  Paypal is a middleman system where they control what you have.  A friend of mine lost over $100,000 with PayPal, because they wanted to verify him before allowing him to withdraw over $25k which was in his PayPal account for over 4 months.  They are crooks and I never wish that upon Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has already overcome paypal by volume, online it only needs to bypass creditcards.
Sure more shops accept paypal, but more transactions (volume) are with BTC. In time we have to deal with less volatiliy. Being crypto currency fanatics we know money doubling, but this is all over when bitcoin is  not governed by whales or the big boys, but by us...

it is better to be governed by us and not the big boys.  There is no need charge the fees and have the control over our money that Paypal and the credit card companies have.  I had a credit card transaction disputed because the guy no longer wanted an item bought at an auction as is, no returns.  He won and got back his $10,000 and I got stuck.  Dont like the control they have over our money.

Yes 100% it will because paypal is asking for many verifications and paypal is stopping some ptc and revenue sites but aslo hyip site with work when he see that they are scammers but bitcoin will not deny using their wallet on their site for payments and bitcoin is easy to verify and it is also with lower fees and anonymously.

No, probably not yet and if it does, it is still far from happening... Even banks asks for verifications to identify you and that you are not doing shady things or use paypal for that purpose... Actually weeding out scammers is a good idea to be done, not only by paypal and also should be done on bitcoin...

Who wants to use a currency or medium of payment that is full of shady people... Better remove those  than it becomes a disgrace to them...

Fee increase is inevitable, or else the slow/ not so good service will further deteriorate...

that's right with many limitations bitcoin will overcome paypal in coming days, as we see more and more adoptions and transactions already using btc. paypal should think about that and extend hands together with bitcoin to survive and keep exist in the future.

Yes. Bitcoin would likely overcome PayPal right after a scalable solution such as SegWit gets implemented, as user adoption and interest would increase into it. The best thing that Bitcoin has, is that it gives anyone the power to control their funds and leave it safe from third party intervention such as governments, banks, and companies. It has lower fees than PayPal, among many other things that would likely attract newcomers into it and grow over time, bypassing PayPal and becoming widely used among merchants.

Nevertheless, I hope that Bitcoin overcomes PayPal soon, making it a viable solution for anyone to buy and sell without middlemen with the use of it and the OpenBazaar platform. Just sharing my thoughts.  Grin

I think that paypal is too connected to banksters and associated with fiat. They will be a casualty when fiat finally goes unless the begin to evolve now. Maybe they can do a Kodak who knows.

It seems so. But as Bitcoin and other decentralized currencies continue to rise in value and popularity, it will be not far for them to become used to transact in the real world, thus becoming mainstream and eventually overcoming PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard once TPS become improved, leaving space for more users to join the ecosystem.

Centralized solutions would obsolete, and eventually replaced by decentralized systems such as: cryptocurrencies, decentralized exchanges, decentralized internet, and much more. Just my opinion.  Smiley

I voted No. I would have liked to vote Yes, but BTC needs major improvements before it can compete with Paypal. My last transaction took more than 26 hours to confirm, and there are still thousands waiting. Maybe after SegWit, I'll vote Yes.

SegWit isn't something that miraculously will solve current problems. If you consider the level growth that will continue to expand in the coming years, then it will take a year or so before we face the same issues as we experience today. SegWit just pushes everything a bit further away, but that's all it does. It makes spamming the network harder and more costly, but eventually you'll see that nothing will change. That's why it's important to not focus on Bitcoin to replace whatever payment service. Use the best features of both solutions in your advantage for ultimate convenience.

No I don't think so.

Paypal has the advantage of being so... easy! And completely instant!

Even on the forum lots of people are using PP...
Most are using both
I think they will be very complementary in the end ^^

I voted YES, we all know that the transaction was declined by Paypal, everyone was unwilling to more complicated with a deposit through the bank and complete data verification accompanied by credit card. Everyone will leave Paypal when know bitcoin.
