I really want the bitcoin price to skyrocket. I am saving up for a triple monitor setup and right now i have ~0.23 BTC, and I want the price to be at LEAST 1000$ when I cash out, until then, I won't be cashing out, and I will be left with less money to spend...

0.23BTC @ 1000$ won't even buy you 1 really good monitor. Why would you need 3 monitors to watch the price?
$230 = .23BTC = 1 Korean 27" 2560x1440 IPS monitor... ? (if you are lucky)

So you need it to be more like $4000.

Sounds like he just needs more bitcoin. Tongue

nah, this is where deflationary currency meets deflationary products.

deflationary products:
"you mean to tell me, that I can buy a TV that's twice as good (4K or whatever) next year for the same price as this piece of crap you want to sell me today?

deflationary currency:
"and now you're trying to tell me that the thousand bucks I spent last year on that piece of crap TV is now worth ten thousand?!?!???"

ah whatever, it's a crappy metaphor, it seemed cool when I started typing, I guess that happens when you're drunk and you think all your thoughts are worth posting.

350 dollars or so will buy you an amazing 27 inch screen. The same one Apple fanboys pay a 1000 dollars for.

1. Since the last post BY @JorgeStolfi some six hours and four pages ago,  there may have been 30 posts ABOUT @JorgeStolfi.  I am flattered and moved.  Sorry @fonzie, but as the poet wrote

Cesse tudo o que a antiga Musa canta
Que outro valor mais alto se alevanta  Cheesy

2. Thanks again for the offer, but I would rather not have any bitcoins, and I do not intend to help distributing bitcoins to anyone, my students or not.  I am sure you will find charities or other worthy projects that will make much better use of the money.

3. I got to 65k tweets before knowing about bitcoin; mostly on politics, a bit of thechnology, humor, etc.  I was looking forward to commemorate my 65535th tweet, but then Twitter switched to the approximate "65K" count format.  Darn. But I was bored of politics anyway and decided to take a long twitter vacation.  By the way, it was through Twitter (specifically @falkvinge's tweets) that I first learned of bitcoin.  Since December I have been mostly wasting the stolen taxpayer's money here instead, using twitter only once in a while to warn people about bitcoin.

4. Why do people assume that I "still do not understand" bitcoin?  In my view, it is the shrillest bitcoin enthusiasts who do not understand much about it and how the world works.  Like those who still claim that bitcoin will let people evade taxes and buy illegal things, or that bitcoin is a safer investment than plain cash, or that China is irrelevant, or that the volume in the blockchain shows that people are using bitcoin --- or that the right technology, by itself, can save people from corrupt politicians and greedy bankers.

Could you post in point form (as you have done above) why you are skeptical on the long term success of bitcoin? I have seen you criticizing bitcoin but other than saying its success is limited, you do not seem to say why. It would be insightful to understand the reasons of failure from your point of view.

Another dump soon?

What's so special about 580-600 that we can't cross it?

Huge surge in thread pages -- next stop 7000 Wink

I think we are going to hit an thread page count ATH in the next 3 days ...very bullish on thread page count Cheesy

I'm extremely bullish on this thread's page count.  To the moon!!

I dunno.  Remember the goat incident?  The Great Page Count Crash of 2014.  But...magic monkey refuses to comment on page counts.  Since Monkey mostly only does reversals, that's pro-trend.

$560 is support level imo. We busted the long term down trend at $480 and smashed though $560 pretty readily. There has been some resistance to $600, testing twice, but the market is at odds so we are going sideways. Next resistance point $625 so if we stay above $560 and consolidate we should see another move up.

The "reason" is that there's people here that think otherwise that serve as an audience. I've never seen anything of any real substance other than pompous bluster.

2. Thanks again for the offer, but I would rather not have any bitcoins, and I do not intend to help distributing bitcoins to anyone, my students or not.  I am sure you will find charities or other worthy projects that will make much better use of the money.

Very predictable reaction. I have to wonder, though: I can understand you being reluctant to use your own money the money given to you by the government to buy bitcoins if you think the technology will fail. I can even understand yourself declining offers for free bitcoins, because of your seeming conviction that if you use it just even once, your objective judgement will be forever clouded. Which I personally think is some of the biggest bullshit I've ever seen on these forums, but hey I like bullshit - see my signature.

But what about distributing free bitcoins to other people? What is your rationalization for declining that offer? That there are "better uses" for the money? Please kindly let the owners of said money be the judge of that. Or are you afraid, that people will get hooked on it, just like if we offered them free heroin? You want to protect them from themselves, because you're convinced you know best what's good for other people? How about letting them form their own opinion? If you're so sure that your opinion is right, they'd probably just validate it by forming the same one.

I think your reasons are different. Even though your pride and your posting track record will never allow it, at some level you realize that your opinion might be wrong. And you fear the embarrassment of your students becoming enthusiastic about the technology. So you would deny them the option to form their own opinions just to protect your pride. I am calling you out on this because I think it's quite pathetic.
