Bullish - Another Wall Street Journal Mention

Rakuten ‘Probably’ to Accept Bitcoin
By TAKASHI MOCHIZUKI

Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten is considering accepting the virtual currency bitcoin as payment, founder and Chief Executive Hiroshi Mikitani said.
“We are thinking about it, and we probably will,” Mr. Mikitani said at the Rakuten Financial Conference in Tokyo, where panelists discussed crypto-currencies and other alternatives to cash and credit cards. “We would like to be open.”
Mr. Mikitani declined to specify when the company might decide, saying it was a trade secret.

Rakuten is one of the largest Japanese companies to take an interest in bitcoin and other digital currencies. It has formed a department to study digital currencies and invested in bitcoin-related ventures in the U.S., including San Francisco-based Bitnet Technologies.
The number of bitcoin-related startups is rising in Japan, despite the failure last year of Tokyo-based Mt. Gox, then the world’s largest bitcoin exchange. They include BitBank Inc and Resu Press Inc., which offer user platforms for retailers and individuals.
Bitcoin’s development in Japan has been supported by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party, which last year helped launch the industry’s self-governing body, the Japan Authority of Digital Assets.
Still, bitcoin’s use by bigger companies such as Rakuten is important for consumer confidence it bitcoin is to go mainstream, said Yukio Noguchi, an economist who used to be a Ministry of Finance bureaucrat.

Ok, I'm gonna step into this whirlpool and note that the likes of silverfurtune and billyjoeallen have been real intellectual boons to this thread. The trolls have went into hibernation when the bosses have taken hold of the reigns. Primarily, Mr SF ad BJA have made their points and are moving on to their next ones, soon. I just want to say thx to the bosses in due time.

Thanks, Man. Please don't feel the need to defend me against charges of racism, sexism or whatever the crimethink de jour is. Whatever my moral flaws, the reason why I advocate Bicoin is because it is money that doesn't need force or coercion in order to function.

Which would y'all rather have as a neighbor, a racist sexist homophobic who believes in the NonAggression Principle or an egalitarian who wants to make everyone equal by sticking guns in their faces?

Freedom means you have to put up with some unpleasant people with unpleasant ideas, but you don't have to put up with threats of violence by those who claim to be peaceful while having the State do their dirty work for them.

Ideally, I'd have the egalitarian non-aggression principle abiding guy for a neighbor, but your point stands.

Confirming what Ramsay said: good to read your stuff in this sea of troll bile. Don't always agree with it, but it's rarely lazy thinking (the worst crime, intellectually speaking).

another false dilemma.

you cant really be sexist/homophob/racist and a nonagression believer at the same time because being sexist/homophob/racist implies aggression.

Depends on my race, sex, and social standing.  Niggers, bitches, faggots and brokesss poor would chose egalitarian.  If you're asking about me in particular, point taken, I'd rather have you.

Right now Bitcoins seems to be an answer in search of a problem: Most obviously capital controls in a world where capital is still largely mobile. When this situation changes, it is likely to be sudden and swift although the time frame is difficult to predict with any accuracy.

I think this is a prescient point. Because we are in such high stakes uncharted economic territory, having a stake in bitcoin (say 1-5% of net worth) is a good idea. Global extended QE, ZIRP, NIRP and currency wars mean the risk of a SHTF moment have increased. If that moment is a sovereign default, a large de-pegging, increasing deflation or capital controls, the consequences will be wide ranging. And thats the thing with many of these events; they happen very quickly. Take the Swiss de-pegging a few weeks back knocking out large trading firms. All of a sudden, and in stark oppostion to the statements from the SCB a few days earlier, shit changed instantly.

No one knows what effect a SHTF moment will have on safe havens like gold or USD or on speculations like bitcoin, but the upside if it reflects positively is enormous.

I find it very interesting that right before an auction that could dump this trash to sub $200, a fucking lunatic named "silverfuture" comes in here and tries to convince people to buy more bitcoins.

2. Put duplicate private keys in cold storage in multiple safe locations and forget about them for a while.

Another example of a goofy boy that won the bitcoin lottery and now thinks he's relevant enough for me to care what he says. The saddest part is that people who bought at $500-$1200 actually bow to this early adopter lunatic whose fortune increases only if he manages to convince delusional get'rich'quick animals to buy more.

If you could maybe just work in some text effects--oh, green and red bold font, maybe--would be best post ever.
Glad there's still intelligent content in this cesspool of bull_shit.

How do you figure? Does not associating or wanting to associate with people do violence to them? Am I aggressed against if someone doesn't invite me to a party? Ask me to marry her? Hire me? Give me a loan?

If so, then you seem to have a different understanding of "aggression" than me. I'm talking about initiating physical violence or threat of violence, and I'd like to hear someone make an argument defending doing that.
However, if you agree that that type of aggression is bad, then anything else is changing the subject.

How is that possible?
Anyone to explain?

Hello TheXpert,

I will write you a PM for more details on whats next, but for everyone here is what happened. We are currently testing a new trading engine on DRKUSD and DRKBTC pairs only. Initially this engine used a feedback loop to confirm new balances after exchange execution. Problem was when you inserted the same type of orders for the same account in between this loop, like your bot was doing by sending the same marketable orders over and over, the exchange balance checking would be screwed and allow for a negative balance before catching up with your actual balance.
This wasn't such a serious problem anyway as there was a circuit breaker in place that would limit any possible negative loss to a maximum of 1,000 usd.

Anyways this has now been corrected (this was the purpose of testing on very small volume pairs like DRK). Your bot has been very useful in this regard.

Have a good day

Lulz, again. Implement things on a live system...
I think i can remember at least of one other exchange(RxIxP) that liked to do it that way....

I lived in several US states allowing me to use violence to protect my property.  You [nonviolently] come on my property, I shoot you in the face.
What's wrong with that?

What's wrong with that?

That's why I very specifically wrote "INITIATING" physical violence. Self defense and defense of one's property is not initiation. Can you fucking read or do I have to ignore you again?

I'm not going to argue over exactly how much defensive force is justifiable in a given hypothetical case. There are always borderline cases that will be decided differently in different places, times and circumstances. People have rights, including the right to defend those rights up to the point just shy of violating somebody else's rights.
