According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Oh I get it now.

1. Take massive short position on Bitstamp

2. Hack Bitfinex

3. Dump Bitfinex BTC on market as fast as possible

4. Profit !

4a. Collect check from Feds.

ftfy ... say modus operandi for Gox, Feds are paying the worst hackers to steal and disrupt bitcoin ya know

Phil G Potter advocates for Core's 1MB4EVA and soft fork salad, everybody turns a blind eye to repeated site failures and glaring warning signs of incompetence.

I wasn't aware that bitfinex have ever said much about block size, certainly not to the extent of coinbaseman or we'd know about it. they're in the business of quietly screwing everyone, not getting involved in block politics.

Fair enough. He was a prominent signatory to the farce that talked down the miners from doing something 4 months ago.

Granted, his importance in this field pretty much ended today.

I doubt there will be a hardfork. But I still can;t imagine 120K coins were hacked. How is that even possible when they had multisig enabled ?

Already hit 482, at this rate we might even see 400 by morning. The miners and the CHinese haven't woken up yet. I fear we might drop much lower post that.

It's definitely not going down $400, and I'm expecting a rise again after a couple of days.

Of course, it will probably take months to get back to ~$600.
