The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

A bubble doesn't have to be a thousand dollars and completely insane investors throwing all of their money in before it falls back down, it can be any significant meaningless change in the price.  Healthy growth has to have a reason, otherwise it's a bubble - can you actually explain, with words, why the price has gone up 100 dollars?

after a thorough fourier time series analysis and markov chain monte carlo simulation, I conclude that we will go up mostly (maybe a little down sometimes)

Bitcoin's proven to outwit even the smartest traders and simulations, so you could either be completely right or completely wrong. Glad this time the growth is organic and not forced like during 2013, I reckon when the altcoins start being dumped and the money flows into BTC we'll be at 1500 and beyond in a hurry.

Nah, it's a bubble.  I know I look like I'm running around spreading FUD everywhere, but I don't have enough money in Bitcoin to have a decent incentive to do that.  I just think that people would be much safer if they're either holding for the long term or selling soon so that they can buy back in at the inevitable drop to under $1200, whenever that happens.

if this is a bubble then i also happen to be satoshi.

a bubble makes you shake your head in amazement every morning when you check the price. if this was a bubble there'd be talk of taking out bank loans on here and people going crazy everywhere. read this thread in 2013.

none of that is happening. there's no euphoria, no media attention, nothing. only a high price.

well, in the last 5-6 mo bitcoin is up from $800-900 to $1300ies, def not a bubble.
eth in the same time is up from 6-7 to above 60; i would call it a bublette, maybe a real bubble would occur in the fall (eth 2017 is largely a repeat of bitcoin's 2013).
One thing is clear to me is that eth is not really an alt anymore with market cap above 6bil vs btc 22bil.
if btc is google, then eth is facebook at ipo.
both btc and eth should be successful.
icos drive eth up because they suck eth out of circulation (temporarily, of course).

It must first break the Bitstamp high of $1350.

Until then, anything can happen - even a double top and a crash back to 1000 or worse. But at this very moment it doesn't look like that (second attack to $1340 is building up) - I think we'll see a new Bitstamp ATH before the weekend.

1500 by early July ... conservatively.

The March-June exponential doubling blow-off didn't eventuate so we relax back to the slower organic exponential growth rate ... and the exponential doubling blow-off is probably still in our future for this bull leg up (which is proving to be very long and resilient by bitcoin's historical behaviour).

Why is there a $45 spread between Coinbase and Bitstamp?

They have always been really weird, but Coinbase always seems to have a wider spread than most other exchanges regardless. I rarely see Coinbase showing a value similar to the spot price on other exchanges. Not sure why this is, but that's just something with their market. I'm thinking it has something to do with the volume.
BTC-E is showing something close to $69 below Bitfinex, but we all know the reason for that.

I sold .50 BTC today on Coinbase to pay the electric and the spread was around 20.00

When I sell its a greater spread but when I buy, its more spot on, closer to averages. I have always assumed that's just how they make their money... buy low sell high  Grin

Why is there a $45 spread between Coinbase and Bitstamp?

it is becoming a normal thing apparently! bitfinex being super high and bitstamp dragging its ass down, lower than any other exchange! i think they want to compete with btc-e to take their position on being always behind the market price. Grin
