Any clue on why the pump now? Or is it just 'bitcoin being bitcoin"

(bitcoin is berry, berry mysterious to me!)

curious if I missed some kinda news on why BTC is pumping.....

(thou come to think of it ...I did dump my current LTC mining hoard into 8 btc yesterday....like minds?)

No you did not miss any news. Bitcoin just made upwards breakout.
I expected a breakout a bit later out of that triangle. But here we are. Now lets's see if we can hold this range and continue climbing up to $2000.

-snip-

So looking at that how long before the breakout based on your TA? Thanks

I expected to stay in that triangle for at least one more day and then see a breakout attempt. So that wasn't any exact TA from my side. Just saw that triangle and mostly it gets used until the lines cross each other. This triangle will close on friday 19th. So one more day inside it with some guys preparing their positions is what I thought is going to happen that's all. But now the breakout happened earlier which is fine to me as well. Now I hope we go for $2000 the next days or next week at the latest.

It would be nice to see $2k+ but I am not holding my breath.

We shall see.

My current thinking is that if we can break $1820 on stamp, then testing resistance $2k seems pretty inevitable - does not mean that we will break above $2k but at least test resistance... if we break above $2k, then $2300 to $2500 would be the next resistance arena... it is looking good, I tell you rjclarke... , but yeah, don't be holding your breath.. that would not be good for you.

Ha ha thanks for the advice there JJG

I have been around long enough to know this will play out just fine if I am patient. No change here.

Yeah... I understand that you are not a spring chicken when it comes to bitcoin.. so we are just batting around bitcoin ideas and speculating on what appears currently as a very bullish situation

Definitely impressive and unexpected movement today. Maybe it is time to start building support above $1800?

Any clue on why the pump now? Or is it just 'bitcoin being bitcoin"
Not every movement upwards is a pump nor is every movement downwards a dump. Please stop using those words inappropriately.

2000$ soon?
That would be nice.

But I LIKE to use inappropriate words!

As far as I'm concerned if any asset goes up $50 in a day its a pump and if it goes down $50 a day its a dump.

Or at least it would be referred to that way if it was a particular stock.

We are using USD here to say what BTC is worth imho. Them's the rules imho.

What's the downside of paper wallets then?

Edit. As a hodler

at least 2 copies... one in a single location may experiences things unthinkable now.

total mkt cap of crypto (available supply) will approach 100 bil $ soon  imho

Market cap of crypto is a totally meaningless statistic. This isn't like a public company, where the market cap is approximately the price to buy the entire company.
You cannot buy all the bitcoins.

The above totally deserves an endless quote!

Confirmed.

Stock market cap refers to free float not worth to buy that company so far as I know.
That is an impressive pump at Stamp  Shocked

Every time I expect a deeper correction and/or longer consolidation, Bitcoin just keeps surprising me!

2000$ soon?

No I expected it to come back but its always the case of how long.    The amplitude to the waves or something and its not a month apparently but less then a week to recover which I think shows the pullback is apprehension of $2,000.   Round figure avoidance is human nonsense and it fits the shallow and short withdrawal especially when bitcoin is independent, dont buy it at all if you think its only a satellite of dollar.

So looking at that how long before the breakout based on your TA? Thanks
That sharp spike.   Thats the break of a downtrend, the boat already left.     Actually I have here as another point of indecision because its previous price for declining ceiling, see may 14th prices roughly and my uptrend on Huobi has not been regained so we decide or negotiate climbing back on that ladder.  Thats at least a day, prime time for China to digest and concur  Cool

Actually for a good rise longer term we want this questioning and building along the way, it makes the action more certain and likely to last to higher prices.   Just sharp spikes that do not pullback some, reconfirm and come back is less strength, less involvement with fewer buyers.  Always we want time for participants not just speculators, thats if you want much higher price

Meanwhile ripple has gone from about $15 to $1k in the last 2 months in relation to bitcoin price

Healthy organic growth, don't you think?

I didn't make any money on its way up, but I will do on its way down Smiley

Where do you short it?

Poloniex, but let me tell you that if I had shorted it the first time I thought about it, I would be broke by now Wink

It's very risky to short an altcoin with a crazy unexplained rise.... and markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.

Hope you got some crystal balls..

I don't... but I guess I got lucky this time Smiley

Too True!

I"d 'recommend' you HODL at least 100 BTC.

It makes the math damn easy on your horde in USD, using the little bitty BTC app on my Firefox Brower.....showing Coinbase price in real time Smiley

Then you can mimic this scene below, each time you do the math and lean back in your chair Smiley

None of them. Buy bitcoin and HODL.

Look at what you think are the top 25, either still in ICO or already released and launched. Then pick the top 5.

4 of them will flop and dump to zero. 1 of them will do 10x or 20x.

Of course, it's quite possible you picked the worst of them and they all dump to zero. I say, just go for the free airdrops that you see, and some cheap altcoins, or buy a small amount. Don't day trade (unless that's your thing.)

Now, I've gotten maybe 20 altcoins, and maybe 15 or 16 of them are worthless now. One is I'm waiting for something to happen, another I already made 5x the ICO price but I'm still waiting for something else to happen.

Then, you trade some or most or all of it to bitcoin and HODL.

If you had Ripple or Litecoin, regardless of what you think of the coins themselves, they were profitable to HODL about 2 months ago, and then sell. But there was really no way to predict all that. It's like everyone is saying 3 years ago to invest in ETH, but noooooo... I didn't. And the ones who did probably didn't HODL long enough.

That won't happen. Most people now buy their coins in exchanges, and those DO to pay the right fee.

That said, the scaling issue needs to be resolved asap if we want to do a anything near a 75x price increase like some shitcoins did recently.

I am also starting to get very frustated at this issue. Mainly because its holding the price down.

in my opinion none of this still justifies investing in an ICO. if you want to invest then invest in an altcoin that already existed and have been listed on an exchange.
the information that can be gained from just looking at the charts is 1000 times better than going in ICO where you are completely blind to its future.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

I see our pennant came to a point, we completed our consolidation period and we're moving up again... currently $1849USD/$2516CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Hopefully we'll get back to ATHs soon.

Go Bitcoin go.

I've made quite a bit in Iconomi both by bounties ( $1000 per article written!) and investing, but they're an anomaly as most ICOs absolutely flop and go nowhere. It's risky and HODLing is easier and more profitable.
