Can I live on bitcoin for a week?

I thought I'd lost my wallet on a family day out today and I've cancelled all my cards and business cards etc. And now just as I put the phone down I have had a call saying my wife's friend accidentally took it home with her in her baby change bag.

Fuck sake.

We need some news to spike it. Is the LN ready?

No, all is going nicely. But here's some news:

Doug Casey on Why Bitcoin Could Hit $50,000 -Published on September 22 2017
https://www.caseyresearch.com/doug-casey-on-why-bitcoin-could-hit-50000/

50k??? Well that would do. I was hoping for 32k like Adam promised but 50k is acceptable also.

I just want to remember you all how when steam was finally accepted, a lot of people didn't believe it due the pat few times that these news hit the media, it got confirmed as fake, but eventually it was real. Boy called wolf type of developments.

It could very much be real, which is why it's reasonable to buy some now. If it's real, sky is the limit. The hype will be insane. I would be surprised to see it happen before lightning network tho, but the network is so cheap right now that with segwit we could deal with the increase of transactions. When Roger and Jihad aren't spamming, BTC is so fast and cheap.

fake news or not, here comes it's pump effect.

Lol, I pretty much did this 4 years ago. Now I only keep what I need to pay the rent, bills, and gas money in my bank account. So far it has worked out splendidly.  Smiley

True story:
My girlfriend sold a house in Wisconsin (after her divorce) and moved to my state. Four years later, her primary bank account was completely frozen by the state of Wisconsin for what they claimed was unpaid property taxes on the house. No warning phone call, no warning letter, nothing. Just out of the blue, the account frozen by the bank. She had no idea why or what was going on until she went to talk to the bank reps, who had to make some phone calls to find out why. The bank's corporate had been sent a letter by the state of Wisconsin, and the bank just put a freeze on her account, no questions asked to my girlfriend.

Of course it was all bullshit, as the property taxes *had* been paid. She had to get her accountant involved, have him send official documentation to the state proving that it was false and the taxes had been paid, and then call the state every day for a month in order to get the account re-instated. In that time, she had auto deposit for her paycheck and auto- debit bill pay set up, and it completely screwed up everything because both auto credits and debits were being rejected. And she couldn't get access to any of her money.

After she got the bank account unfrozen, she marched into the bank that very same day, cursed out the bank reps, withdrew all her money, and closed the account. She told the bank reps that it was a draconian, fascist dick move to freeze her account like that, and that she would never ever bank with them again.

And who was the bank in question? Yep, you guessed it: Chase.  Angry

Moderate weekend pump. Not sure it's the Amazon rumor effect or something else, but it's still just a small movement.

The Bitcoin world is as fast as its price movements. I agree that this thread is one of the best to get a sense of what is going on out there. Who post in this thread usually adds a lot of value to every bitcoiner who wants to touch base with the news.
Especially during the summer, when I did not have much access to the internet this thread was the only one to keep me posted about all that happened.
I'm actually grateful to all of you guys that contribute here  Wink

Subscribed 100%. I was worried when there was talk about shutting down this thread, because it's my main source of sentiment and fresh info. When my interest is piqued here, I look around elsewhere, follow down links etc.

The little bit of "theatrical action" as I call it - overplayed characters such as "Verbal" JayJuanGee or the hateful Roach - are no big issue for me, and at times they even add a bit of color to the scene.

Had a nightmare that I woke up and the price was ~2,2k so it was quite surprising to see this upswing.

That's not a nightmare; cheap coins would be awesome.  I want to get my 21 coins!

2.2 K would be great. May even tempt me to start accumulating. Grin

Right, so what are the odds that Amazon announces that it was fake news just at the time that the price touches the downward trendline for a second time?

My bet is on it being fake news. Amazon and other big retailers are completely politically captured by Visa/MC/PayPal and the big banking industry that they have relationships with. Amazon has had years to integrate Bitcoin payments, and they have done zero, with zero intention.

At this stage, I doubt they would have much customers paying with Bitcoin. It makes no sense for them at this moment.

Given what Jeff Bezos said in the past about bitcoin, I'd give it a 0 chance of happening...
Also the only source for this FUD seems to be a dodgy website, don't think we need this kind of stuff right now Sad

I doubt Amazon announces they are NOT taking bitcoin. The question will be if they announce they are.

The fault was likely all of the state mandating the freeze. But it's a good example of a major bitcoin use case (asset protection).

If you told me a year ago China would be 5th in trading volume and we'd be at 3700 I'd have punched you in the face on general principle. But here we are.
What if I told you this time next year Costa Rica will be the centre of the Bitcoin universe and we'll be at 18500? How violent will you get then?
One would hope for broken bones at the very least.

Well yeah. But the bigger point here is that Average Joe is oblivious to the fact that state governments apparently have that power. To just send a freeze notice to a person's bank with no advanced warning, no grace period for compliance resolution, nothing. And that the bank will just roll over and do it without question or hesitation. As if the bank customer's situation or rights don't matter at all. You're just considered guilty until proven innocent.

I could see that if it were the Federal Govt, FBI, or the IRS. But a state govt with this power? Without a court order or even probable cause? Fkn bullshit.

Fuck sake.

I can't even imagine the scenario that results in my wallet ending up in my wife's friend"s baby's change bag or any scenario requiring 3 possessives in a row for that matter!  I have not lived...
I can sympathize though; it's a pain in the ass having to get all new banking/credit cards but on the bright side, you don't have to worry about identity theft.

Typically I was informed of her having the wallet as soon as I'd made the last call to the bank cancelling my cards.

Unbelievable
