OT: Here's Tim Cook's plan to get more people to upgrade their iPhones and turn Apple revenue around
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apos-tim-cook-apos-plan-142600035.html

Quote
  • In an interview with CNBC, CEO Tim Cook laid out his plan for getting revenue back on track by encouraging customers to upgrade their iPhones.
Cook said he will focus on the factors Apple can control, like marketing its trade-in program and developing a payment plan for iPhones, rather than those he can't, like trade tensions between the U.S. and China.

A payment plan for a smart phone? Really? Here's an idea Tim, why don't you try making an iPhone that's actually fucking affordable? At $1000+, you've priced iPhones right out of the Average Joe mainstream market. Even in China. It's a fucking phone for god's sake, not a Rolls Royce.

Fuck Apple, Pixel phones all day every day!

That's less expensive than the scam that Apple is, but still it's not cheap...

And buying directly from Google is a bit too much for me concerning personnal data. That's like hearing "ok this time we directly put the viruses in the phone so you don't even have to give autorisation we automatically collect everything you do or say don't worry Cheesy "

Fuck Apple, Pixel phones all day every day!

I have just bought a refurbished Iphone SE from China for 175€ to replace my older iPhone 5. No way I am buying their latest ridiculously overpriced models. Staying (at least) two generations behind seem to be the perfect spot for me. As you say it is a fucking phone, not a damn investment!

And what about their new Mac Mini's? $1200+ for the cheaper 128GB SSD NOT-UPGRADEABLE one? Are we crazy or what?

Pretty happy with my 2015 Mac Mini that I bought for $350 in Fry's offer and upgraded myself to 512GB SSD.

That being said, I like Apple products but WTF man....

That pricing scheme and outrageous markup might make some sense if you are a niche brand like Bang & Oluffsen or Loewe with very little market share but not in case of a mainstream seller. Where are economies of scale here? Oh yeah, in the profits account. They are marketing geniuses that we need to concede.

Rare to buy your fone outright in UK. Most common is 2 2-year contracts: Interest-free payment plan, plus airtime/data/sms plan.
Otherwise, yes, fuck FAANGs
1K$ gets you: 2 old laptops. 1 for node, 1 for wallet. 1 fuckgoats. 1 phone. 1 bottle Smirnoff. some btc dust for experimenting.

Don't think I can be bothered to read mainstream coverage any more, especially the Guardian which is paternalist shite.

The amount of energy people spend pointlessly shouting at BTC could power transactions for several years. Nothing they shout or do will change the outcome. It's out of their hands. Why not go off and find something more fun to do?

But still they [shitcoins] come. In two weeks’ time a new coin is due to be launched using the Mimble Wimble protocol (the cultural spectrum of the tech world does not seem to stretch much beyond Game of Thrones or Harry Potter), a turbocharged competitor to bitcoin that aims to return “power to the people” by keeping out big crypto-mining companies. It is called Grin – which, if nothing else, surely has the best name for a currency in the history of money.

A cryptocurrency has to endure for decades in order to "make it".

Bitcoin has endured it's first decade, and is still the most popular and garners the most support by many orders of magnitude.

Other shitcoins have not. Thousands have died off or are simply zombie coins with no future.

Any new coin launched today is just reinventing the wheel, it is DOA. Nobody cares except the devs trying to scam people.

Bitcoin is the past, present, and future of cryptocurrency. Everybody realizes this now.

Stock market in US: down 660 one day, up 669 points next day.
What's coming: down 2000 points one day, up 2000 next?
It's laughable, man.

I had 64gb 6s for four years, gave it to my son, got myself XS with 256 gb memory. Why not splurge a little?
The price is ridiculous, of course, two observations:

1. Great camera. You wouldn't believe how much better it is comparing even to 7, SE non-withstanding.
2. Yes, it is a bit of a luxury (more expensive than it should be), so what? It is not a hublot for 25-40K.
In a grand picture of things, $1.2K on a two year zero % paying plan is fine.

Comparing to my "losses" in 2018 while hodling btc, it is close to nothing yet a pleasing toy.

Top o' the morning Bitcoinland.

Still basically sideways... currently $3797USD/$1584CAD.

Ho hum. It's the January blahs.

Meanwhile winter just hit Toronto like someone threw a switch on New Year's Day. No problem, I'm flying back down to Mexico next week.

No dental work this time. I have to wait until May for that. This is strictly about escaping winter and living happily ever after, although I'll probably be doing some improvements to my properties there.

Booked to fly back for the Jays' home opener but I'm leaving the possibility open of flying up mid-winter for a couple of days if I need money or in case of an emergency. I might be jonesing for a musical audience by then too.

Life is good. Thank you Bitcoin.

That's less expensive than the scam that Apple is, but still it's not cheap...

I can understand why 12-year-old girls get iPhones. They're cute and all the other kids have them.

But why would any otherwise halfway intelligent adult buy any crappy, overpriced low-quality Apple product?

I'd rather spend my money on materials, workmanship, research and development than on advertising.

1. it used to be better (and maybe still is) than windows crap. I had to run W10 at home on a couple of PCs. It is the most ridiculous "nanny" system ever. Always bothers you with endless updates that is difficult to switch off.
2. less chances of a complete sellout of ALL of your data which happens on Google phones. I bought cheaper google phone once or twice. The first thing it/they did was to MANDATORY link me/the phone to my gmail account. F that! On Apple, you can choose to opt out of everything that you don't want.
3. I am a 12 year girl. /s

I can understand why 12-year-old girls get have wealthy parents hand them iPhones. They're cute and all the other kids have them.

Let's quantify that a bit. No kids could afford these phones on their own, with money out of their own pocket.
